  1. It’s based on 7 years of them being here. I’ve had this opinion for like the last 4 years. Edit: strongly held for the last 2. I don’t know how people fool themselves on this. We are nowhere near the other teams on this.
  2. To me it’s a process thing. We don’t do the things that good teams do and we don’t have the same kinds of pitchers. It’s just off. It’s not elite. I don’t even think walker is a bad pitching coach. At the major league level we are probably above average. We just don’t create the same type of arms out of seemingly nowhere that the Yankees, rays and astros do and it puts a very firm ceiling on our potential. You can win and kind of suck at this. The cubs did, but you can’t be good long term.
  3. Are there any aces on the market at the deadline? I’m sick of the pretty good guy with control thing. If we are going to sell real prospects, let’s get an ace.
  4. Lol. He was a 6th starter for the dodgers. The dodgers usually have 8 starters who could start on 27 teams. You shouldn’t have to invest much in the bullpen and still have a good one. That’s what the best teams do. Even the Yankees have their high paid free agents injured and they still have a good pen. We’ve had good injury luck this year also, which is crazy.
  5. I think our major league pitching dev is absolutely behind a ton of teams. We never get mentioned when people talk about it. Maybe the same for the minors. I know we recently overhauled that. I think we also kind of suck at identifying players to target. That to me is the rays real elite skill. The astros are the absolute kings of developing starting pitching with the Yankees.
  6. Robbie Ray was previously an excellent pitcher. If you cycle through enough guys who used to have insanely nasty stuff and used to be good, some of them will work out. Where are all the bullpen arms? Where are all the back up starters in triple A? Where is the random 6th starter we got from someone else who we worked into a 4th starter. We spend a lot of assets on pitching compared to most teams and on aggregate we don’t get a great return.
  7. I just don’t think you can be good for long without elite pitching dev and we aren’t even in the top half of the mlb in that department. I like our hitting. We just suck so bad at developing pitching. Berrios is probably just bad luck and Kikuchi was a risk anyway. But, other teams make trades where they identify a guy in triple A who could be a 5th starter and they work him up to a quality no.4. Other teams identify guys they can turn into good bullpen arms. We just spend money and assets and expect that to do everything. You need to be smart as well and we aren’t smart. We’ll prob make the playoffs this year. We might win because the playoffs are luck, but we aren’t going to be good forever like the astros or the rays like this. Pitching dev is the MOST important thing and we suck.
  8. If we absolutely collapsed from here on out and that led to a front office change… I wouldn’t hate it. I’m convinced you could put the rays FO in charge and we would have competent pitching and like 2 more guys with funky stuff in the pen by next year.
  9. We have terrible at bats sometimes. Like, that guy was having a tough ish time finding the zone. Teo got unlucky but that should have been 2-0 and the one he lined out on looked off as well. Same for espinal. I don’t get it. We should still be in that half inning with teo probably on first base and Espinal at 1-1 or whatever. It’s not good enough. I’d trade teo in a heartbeat. I don’t know if it’s smart but I just want less of those kinds of at bats and we already have too many guys like that we have to keep.
  10. Oh my god, we are down 5 runs. Take balls.
  11. Sell guys who are over performing not under performing. I mean, if you mean under performing literally as in they are playing worse than they can.
  12. Personally, I’d do that every year unless you are in with a real shout at the division.
  13. I listen to a ton of fantasy stuff because I play a lot of dynasty. It’s usually analytical type stuff. I NEVER hear us mentioned as a ‘smart’ pitching dev team. We aren’t mentioned as dumb (they usually don’t talk about those teams because they don’t want to burn sources) but we are never mentioned as cutting edge. I used to write that off somewhat but I’m starting to think that we are dumb on that side or at least we are just average. It’s the most important thing in baseball. It’s the thing that extends windows. If you are going to be good for a long time, it’s all pitching dev.
  14. Oh yea, that will make a big difference. 7 years of ineptitude in pitching dev will be solved by firing Montoyo.
  15. Jaime Garcia was on the Jays.
  16. I’d rather tell them not to sell any high value asset, clear house in the winter and hire guys from the rays or the astros. In the medium and long run, we’ll be better off. Or just fire everyone involved with pitching dev, and hire guys from the rays or astros. And no, waiting a long ass time for results. Other teams have got quick results in pitching dev. Other teams can cobble together bullpens and rotations and get results. We suck at this period.
  17. What pisses me off is this kills our window. These incompetent f***s are going to have to trade more assets for more pitching when we have already spent enough assets on that. We should be good. They aren’t good at it, and instead of us competing for 5/6/7/8 years it’s going to be like 3 more because they need to keep dumping assets into pitching because we f***ing suck at it. I’m going for a walk.
  18. If we miss the playoffs, the coaches. It should be the front office.
  19. We suck at pitching dev. We spend so much f***ing money on it and so many assets on pitching and we suck at it. Fire this front office.
  20. They really need to pull him now while we still have a chance of winning this game.
  21. I’m fine with us missing the playoffs if we don’t burn any more assets and it means they fire this FO. Unfortunately, it would probably be just the pitching coach and Charlie which probably isn’t the problem.
  22. Don’t worry we’ll fix it by trading two more top 100 prospects for a no. 3 pitcher.
  23. I’m fine with saying f*** it with this front office. The Red Sox are getting passable starting pitching spending basically nothing right now. We burn through free agency money, burn through trade assets we get 60% value for what we put in. They’ve done a good job developing hitting. Time to turn it over to people who know what they are doing. I don’t care about what’s happening in low A. 7 years should be enough time.
  24. Our hitters don’t deserve to be saddled with this pitching. Front office needs to do way f***ing better. It’s every year. They have sucked at this every year.
  25. Call them up right now and get that done lol.
