    Kudos to Atkins for getting off that deal. I’ll be honest, when they first signed it I thought that it was an indication that this front office might not be that good. Cost control of guys at Grichuks well established level just isn’t that important. You don’t need to lock down that calibre of player pretty much ever. Yea, technically if he’s a 2WARish player that’s surplus value but good teams find those players in their own system and pay them 700k. They certainly don’t sign them to 5 year deals pretty much ever. Being able to extricate yourself from that and admit a mistake is good though. It shows the ability to grow rather than double down.

    Kiley McDaniel with his draft breakdown. He has Toman and Barreria as his 15th and 16th overall players.     Let’s say someone high up can’t come to an agreement. So, you could go to Pace and offer him more because of that.

    We have three interesting Canadians in the system in Palmegianni. Lopez and Brown which is pretty fun.

    I just had a quick look back at Keith laws personal top 100. It looks like we got 3 top 60 guys (and two top 35 guys) in our first 3 picks. Also, Pace is his 98th ranked guy, which surprised me. Basically Law sees him as having a ton of upside physically but would need 2 years in the complex. I’m assuming he’s a back up pick if we don’t sign someone higher?

    I absolutely love that at least on the hitting side that we have a type and we know how to develop it or that’s the consensus among draftniks. That’s a great sign. Also, pleasantly surprised that among all those pitchers (which I mostly thought of as cost saving) there are highly thought of guys.

    I’d do it. With his hitting approach, you’d expect him to be worth 30m per year right into his early thirties. I’ll eat the last 3/4 years.

    If part of the deal is that Soto signs long term then the price goes up. You are buying 2.5 years of Soto. If you are buying 10 years of control, that costs more.

    Soto for the Yankees is terrifying. Perfect fit and allows them not to give a bad contract to Judge.
