You are right that control matters.
I just see stuff in the media that seems to put control as just the same for all types of players. Like, to make up some numbers, let’s say the value of control is a multiplier on the ‘real’ value of the player. If 2 years of control is worth twice the value of one year for a starter, for a reliever it should be more like 1.25 times the value.
People are talking about huge prices for guys like soto and jiminez … and it’s all based on control. If that’s the case, just do not pay that price imo.
