  1. IIRC he had 1 at bat in the FCL and got hurt and was out for the rest of the year
  2. I feel quite good about Adrian Hernandez and Eisert being some solid pen options towards the end of the year if we need someone to step in. Both are changeup guys rather than your typical high 90's fastball guys who typically fill your pen, but they both just keep piling up the strikeouts as the work their way up the system. Eisert gave up a HR and a walk in his AAA debut today but got 5 K's in 2 innings. It'll be interesting to see how comfortable they are giving either of those guys a look if they need an arm or if they look more towards a Danner type who's already on the 40 man and and reportedly throwing a lot harder than he has in the past
  3. Looks like we've got the rosters for all the minor league teams now. Listing the mlb.com's top 30 prospects at each as well as some others I'm intrigued by Buffalo: Francis(15), Taylor(16), Eisert, Kay, Spraker, Palacios, Warmoth, Young New Hampshire: O.Martinez(2), Danner(17), Hernandez(18), Murray(24), Espino(25), Juenger(26), T.Morris(29), Horwitz(30), Castillo, Luciano, Clarke, Cook, Robertson Vancouver: Jimenez(5), Robberse(7), Kloffenstein(11), Hiraldo(12), Dallas(22), Palmer(23), Gregory, Barger, Tirotta, Britton, Dunedin: Tiedemann(6), Machado(13), De Castro(14), Brown(27), Santos(28), Cooke, Dominguez, Rojas, Mesia, Palmegiani, G.Martinez Other: Moreno(1): Extended Spring, listed on Buffalo's reserve list and will go there whenever they think he's ready because of the late start because of the visa issues Groshans(3): Injured Lopez(4): Buffalo's 7 Day IL Van Eyk(8): Tommy John Beltre(9): Presumably still in extended spring to play FCL Carter(10): Presumably still in extended spring to play FCL Zulueta(19): Unknown, I know he got hurt last year, thought he might be ready by now Meza(20): either FCL or DSL likely Aponte(21): Presumably still in extended spring to play FCL Hatch: Buffalo's reserve list Pinto: Presumably still in extended spring to either play FCL or go to Dunedin after getting some extra work
  4. Not listed on any roster. Not sure if they just want him at extended spring for a bit longer given he came to camp late because of the trade. Of if they're looking at the FCL when it starts for him. I assumed he'd go to Dunedin
  5. Lovely. 4 way tie in the AL East? That sounds like fun
  6. Do we have rosters for New Hampshire yet? Buffalo has started and I've seen Vancouver's, but nothing from the other 2 edit: This -> https://www.milb.com/dunedin/roster appears to have been update for Dunedin.I checked it yesterday and it was not. Tiedemann listed but Irv Carter not. edit 2: New Hampshire's appears to be updated now as well https://www.milb.com/new-hampshire/roster
  7. I get that, and I mentioned prior that they have to have 4 bench guys by May anyway. Was Katoh unwilling to go to Buffalo and wait until injuries/May to arrive? Was he loved so much by the front office that they weren't willing to lose him if he wasn't? I guess so. I just don't see it. I would have used the final roster spot on another pen arm until then.
  8. I think that's fair, Barring injuries I just don't see any situation where you want him starting. If Springer is DHing then Tapia plays CF. If Gurriel/Teo DH's Tapia or Biggio plays LF/RF. If Chapman/Bo/Biggio DH's then Espinal plays 3B/SS/2B. If Vladdy is DHing then I probably want Gurriel/Teo at 1st, and Tapia/Biggio playing OF. If Collins makes the roster then that could also be a spot for him to fill in at 1st. Same goes for any of those player getting a full day off rather than DHing. If Jansen is off then Kirk plays C. You pretty much need 2 starters sitting to find any situation where Katoh starts. So is he a pinch runner/defensive replacement until someone gets hurt?
  9. So much for that then. I don't really see the need. They already have an extra outfielder and Biggio can play a corner spot, Espinal is backup at all the infield positions so I don't want Katoh to actually get into a game until someone gets injured. The fact that they have to have a 4 man bench by May probably impacts things. If Katoh has an opt out like Bird which he probably does and you want him on the roster in May as the 4th guy then might as well take him now I guess. I just hope he doesn't get much game action barring injuries.
  10. My guess is Espinal, Tapia, Collins is the bench and they go with an 11 man pen. My guess yesterday was Espinal, Tapia, McGuire and Bird but I guess they feel Collins can essentially fill the role of both McGuire and Bird since McGuire's only role was to exist in case of injury to allow Kirk to DH, not actually play and anytime Bird played we would have been downgrading the lineup so he wouldn't have played much either. Now Collins can be on the bench as a 3rd catcher so Kirk can DH a bunch, and play 1st on days when Vladdy gets a DH day and that's about it. I don't really see a need for anyone else off the bench right now. Any other option would be a significant downgrade to the point you'd just want them stapled to the bench so what's the point? Carry the extra arm instead.
  11. He likely had a minor league contract that has an opt out clause by a certain date and the Jays declined to add him to the roster before then so he opts out. Mostly a Jays decision. Just look at how early the Jays added Phelps to the 40 man. May have seemed weird to do it a week before the season starts but he signed his minor league contract before the lockout so his opt out date was likely based on the original start of the season which was a week early. Almost all these minor league deals are the same. Player can opt out the day before the season starts if not added to the 40 man. Jays added Phelps and declined to add Bird. I guess this means Collins makes the roster as a bench bat, backup 1B, emergency 3rd C that allows the Jays to use Kirk as a DH. Which TBH was the only reason I would have rostered McGuire, I wouldn't have actually played him. Collins essentially can do both Bird's and McGuire role with 1 roster spot. He's basically our Shohei Ohtani /s
  12. Only one 40 man spot left so both Bird and LUkes can't make it unless they get rid of someone else
  13. Before we signed Kikuchi. Hatch and Hiraldo for Manaea. That's a yes from us? Seemed pretty comparable players to be on a quick read.
  14. 3 man bench no longer allowed. After May 1st when it goes back to a 26 man roster there's a 13 pitcher maximum which means 13 position player minimum or a 4 man bench. If we ditch McGuire I honestly can't think of a 4th guy I want around. They don't seem to want to DH Kirk if they don't have another catcher available for risk of losing the DH so if McGuire's presence gets Kirk more days at DH then I'm all for it.
  15. Montoyo was just showcasing Panik to get the Marlins to give Cimber to us for no good reason except they're cheap
  16. This whole you can't have a manager enter the season without a contract for next year is dumb. What's he going to do? Dumb stuff on purpose? Him trying to do dumb stuff on purpose might be better anyway since things Montoyo think are dumb is probably the correct decision.
  17. Danny Jansen is a 5 fWAR player Teo wins MVP Espinal and Biggio both have an higher OPS than Jose Ramirez who finishes the year in Cleveland Pearson pitches over 100 innings and has a lower ERA than Manoah Orelvis puts up a 1.200 OPS in the minors, gets called up in September to fill in for an injured Chapman and hits a homerun in each of his first 3 plate appearances Tapia pitches an inning for the Jays on 2 different occasions. Adrian Hernandez gets more than 5 saves for the Jays this year
  18. You need to read that statement again. "Everyone who wants Walker fired" he was referring to a group of people, those who want Walker fired, asking if they would feel the same if it was someone they knew personally, not saying "Everyone wants Walker fired"
  19. If used properly this is a good deal. Seems fair. I just get Ben Revere needs to be leading off kind of trash vibes from a guy who shouldn't even be in the lineup but Montoyo will probably DH Teo or Gurriel a bunch to get his speed in there and Kirk will be on the bench a lot more than he should be as a result. On days where Springer is getting a day off I wouldn't even be surprised if he hit leadoff. Maybe I expect Montoyo to be worse than he actually is.
  20. Feels like a cheap way for agents to put make the team look cheap to try to put pressure on them in future negotiations. This is the kind of thing that the average fan who doesn't understand how this works will get up in arms over how the Jays are penny pinching for $6000 over Manoah, etc, etc.
  21. Yeah I was kind of over having Grichuk on the team but this feels like they've made the team worse with some serious potential for Montoyo to do stupid things with Tapia in the lineup that make us pull our hair out before April ends. Tapia is more suited to a bench role and as a pinch runner than Grichuk was and if used correctly this trade does make sense. But making your roster worse to get a decent looking but longshot prospect and barely saving any money has been nervous.
  22. Soto got an extra 600k his first year which matters as it tends to multiply. I'd say Vlad closer to 16, then probably 24 in year 3, and then over 30 in the final year. If he continues the way he was last year that is. I just didn't really get the 12+ projections some people were making in October/November
  23. I think it's a more interesting question once you factor in the opportunity cost. We lose 2 picks by resigning Semien and Ray but we keep Hoglund, Smith++. However we're spending 25 million on a 2nd baseman for the rest of the decade basically. I like the route we took.
  24. Vladdy gets 7.9, weren’t some people here estimating in the 12-14 range? I thought 8-10 was more reasonable. Turns on MLBTR was right on. Sometimes I’m curious if teams and player just point to the MLBTR estimate and say you good with that? Yep, awesome. Like 7.9 is very specific. How do they end up at that exact same number that MLBTR did?
