Key words here being "a much better player in Soto". It's a lot easier to get value for a player when he actually plays like a superstar more consistently, unlike Vladito. No point in trading him for a pile of crap just to avoid him walking away as free agent. -

That's assuming you could get anyone to give up a "haul of assets" for a 1B who had just put up 3.3 and 1.3 fWAR the previous two seasons and would only be 1.5 seasons away from obviously testing the market because he's clearly over valuing himself. Much more likely all you get is a pile of lottery tickets than anything of substance.
