I would be wary of getting excited about these two. They both have well below average velo in the 88-90 range. They are very much in the Justin Nicolino mold of strike throwers who carve up Low A ball hitters with secondary pitches. I would fully expect to see them get their tits lit as they go up the ladder.
Yup could definitely see that happen. But I think the org is high on him as well considering they sent him to the AFL last year where he also raked. Could see them wanting to get a look at him in the big leagues before deciding what to do with him.
If his bat is good enough they will find the at bats for him. And I'm pretty sure this rotating dh thing is just to make sure guys are healthy for the stretch run when they go all out and put out the best lineup possible every day. Need a lefty bat in the middle of the order...
Spencer Horwitz promoted to AAA after posting a 156 wrc+ in AA. He could be in play for a spot on the big league team in the second half if he keeps raking.
s*** he's by far the most exciting since I started following the team for me. Thor never developed a 2nd and 3rd pitch till he got the Mets and Pearson is Pearson. Tiedemann already has the 2nd and 3rd plus pitches.
Its actually pretty sick that the only thing separating us from being Yankee/Astros level is a lack of pitching. IMO easier to develop pitching these days than developing hitting. I think we are seeing our MILB side get better at developing pitching so future is extremely bright.
I've been looking at his and Tiedemanns stats this year and just staring at them lmao
Some Tiedemann stats for reference so more people can join the circle jerk:
63 IP, 40% K rate, 8.75% BB rate, 1.71 ERA. Insane and at 19 yo
The pitching facility should be more about extracting 100% out of each guy. Using motion sensing cameras, high speed spin tracking cameras, 3d body tracking and bio mechanics and all that super nerd stuff. We've already seen massive velo jumps from Tiedemann and Frasso so far.
I think a big problem with our lack of pitching development was related to old facility in Dunedin just not having that high tech pitching lab/equipment. And now that we can finally utilize our new facility down there properly for the first time this year there should be no surprise that we have immediately seen a bunch of our pitching prospects explode this year. Personally I'm extremely optimistic about our future pitching staff. Just not the current one lol. Guys like Tiedemann, Zulu, Frasso, Santos have all taken massive steps forward which I think we can attribute to the new facility. There should be a stable supply of pitching coming now hopefully starting with those guys.
I voted Vladdy, Altuve, Ramirez, Anderson, Springer, Trout, Kirk, Alvarez for the AL and Goldy, Jazz, Machado, Dansby, Contreras, Betts, Joc, and Harper even though hes hurt.
Its just sad right? You always wanna see your team take a step forward and its so clear that the team has stagnated or even gotten worse from where they were at the end of last year. Hopefully some guys on the team wake the f*** up in the second half. (looking at you Bo and Berrios)
Thats what I was thinking. Even though last years team was horribly unlucky from a run differential perspective, just seems like they were more explosive last year and were getting much better pitching on a consistent basis.
Spencer Horwitz might honestly be our second best hitting prospect these days behind Orelvis. Horwitz is lighting up AA at 24 yo which is not too bad as far as age vs level goes.
