    The report posted earlier in the thread says he went out of his way to ask to meet with us. Just makes sense if that's tied to Ohtani simply because I don't think we'd be the highest bidder when we have major holes elsewhere.

    His entire value comes from his defense. Dude was pathetic at the plate last year and his history shows you that he is that guy. It was a pathetic trade and only homers will say otherwise... Sadly there are a bunch of homers who try to bully others on this board lol.

    There is no way Yamamoto asks to meet with us if Ohtani doesn't come here. Trading one of Bassitt/Berrios will be very easy to do while being able to use this as a way to fill 3B/LF.

    Please don't sit here to tell us Varsho is good when we could have gotten the same value from KK or Grisham. Many wanted the scrub out of the lineup by the end of the season. Only if there was such a thing as Designated Fielder lol.

    I'd disagree... think we keep Manoah in that situation strictly due to his cost. We trade whoever gets the bigger return from Berrios/Bassit to offset the salary.

    If we did go after Yamamoto then I think we trade one of our starters for help. Biggio/Schneider platooning at 2B is fine. Just need to fill 3B and LF. And who knows, maybe Vlad gets skinny and plays 3B for a season with Ohtani at 1B lol. Then go get a cheap DH/LF from free agency/trade. RF Springer 3B Vlad 1B Ohtani SS Bo LF (the Return from one of our starters) DH Belt C Kirk/Jansan CF Varsho 2B Biggio/Schneider

    I agree... I'm just more upset that he ended up in our division for the year and possibly longer. Soto/Judge will be the scariest 1-2 combo in the league unless Ohtani goes back to Trout.

    That makes me sad for what it could mean with Ohtani. There is no Plan C that can be good enough for the 2024 season. Now we could be better off longterm but let's see what happens

    Great move for the 2024 season for the Yankees... we'll see beyond that if it's still great or a disaster. Regardless, our life has just gotten harder for next season. Seeing Soto and Judge back to back isn't fair.

    I'm actually onboard with keeping Shapiro around for most of the reasons you stated but with a closer eye. Ultimately the main measure of success is how you perform in the playoffs and whether the team is in a better position to continue progressing towards a World Series. Not saying he has to win one to be vindicated but the team last year was so painful to watch. I said many times that it was the worst good jays team I've ever seen. The playoff results were pretty much how most expected things to go...

    Soto is the type of guy you keep Moreno for... not to trade him for Varsho's scrubby ass. I'm sure there were a bunch of the same people talking about how great of a trade that was when most thought it was ridiculous right away lol.

    Exactly my stance. Rogers didn't put all their resources into the team just to be ok. Considering what Shatkins have had to work with, 0 playoff success in an expanded playoff era with a poor farm system while the extensions to your 2 best players haven't even happened yet. They've been here for 8/9 years man... this isn't a reactionary take lol.

    I thought King looked like a damn stud down the stretch of the season. Padres obviously believe that will carry over. The only way you can justify this trade is if Soto signs longterm and I'd be shocked if Yankees let him go after paying this price.
