  1. If his arms done as a pitcher then he probably wouldn't have much left to throw from the OF I'm guessing? Hard to make that comment without having any history of this lol.
  2. I can't believe I'm sounding like Shatkins here and talking about cost control for sustainable winning lol. While I like the Kawhi comparison, 1 guy in basketball can change your teams entire fortunes. It's anything but that in baseball. The Yankees of all teams who desperately need to make a splash aren't willing to give up a haul for 1 year of Soto... I'm just in agreeance with this train of thought. If you want him so badly then make your push once he's a free agent.
  3. Weren't there pages of people trying to make fun of AA lol
  4. You're assuming Manoah is done while I think he can easily bounce back to be a top of the rotation guy at a super cheap price for many years to come. We need guys like Manoah to pan out so we can spend in other areas of the roster. 1 year of Soto is not worth the chance Manoah returns to form. Multiple years of Soto and I'll drive Manoah and whoever else to the airport.
  5. I would not trade Manoah + for a single year of Soto. Any Soto deal needs to come with an extension or screw him. Go spend those prospects for someone who will be here for multi years.
  6. Exactly... by that logic, we need to get rid of the entire team. Springer's not old enough for me to expect him to fall off a cliff yet. I'd wager he bounces back based on his track history.
  7. Not to mention that he's one of the best defensive RFs in the game so even with his down year offensively, he's still a huge plus overall. Like sure if you find a younger/cheaper player instead you go for it but replacing him should not be a top priority.
  8. So the Jays suck offensively and might move Bo/Springer this offseason... sure lol
  9. Ya I find it hilarious how people here are like if he can't pitch then he'll be a gold glove OFer. No one knows how his OF skills will look in the MLB at whatever age he finally tries it. He's more likely to try 1B by then, which is fine obviously.
  10. Maybe the front office said screw locking in Bo and Vlad... let's give Ohtani and Soto those contracts while they trade those 2 to fill out the rest of the roster with young controllable talent. Probably a stretch since those 2 will combine for a billion dollars.
  11. I remember being on the edge of my seat when we were going after Springer. Ohtani might get 4 times his contract. Ridiculous to think that lol.
  12. Atkins is in the same position AA was when he went all in during the 2015 season. I wouldn't be shocked to see some desperation moves from them since they could all get canned if they suck in 2024. Let's just hope it'll be as fun as 2015 because that was my most enjoyable season as a Jays fan.
  13. Just gonna live in fantasy land and assume we get both Ohtani and Soto lol. DH Ohtani SS Bo LF Soto 1B Vlad RF Springer CF Varsho C Kirk/Jansen 3B ? 2B Biggio/Schneider
  14. There is no way we should be trading our best prospects for Soto if it doesn't come with an extension. I believe he said he's hitting free agency regardless so the trade price better reflect a dude who might leave after 1 season. But I will still dream of a lineup with both Ohtani and Soto in it to the point I'll start playing MLB The Show again lol.
  15. Even if the Jays don't get him... it's always good to drive up the price so another team has less money to get other players.
  16. I want Ohtani so I'll just be excited to see him in a Jays jersey short term. Based on the contract, I'll probably have different thoughts long term. Hard to give an answer until final details come out
  17. Yup... if we are below .500 with Ohtani, most will give 2 f***s about him and the team. Now if we are good with Ohtani (which we should be projected to be) then its an amazing story. Dudes 30 years old and many thought Jose Bautista would last in his later 30s. The excitement of just getting him will override the longterm repercussions lol.
  18. This threads becoming a wet dream and I'm here for it. If we can land a big fish, I'd go nuts. Still ranking Soto ahead of Ohtani strictly due to us saving enough money to use elsewhere. Soto plays a corner OF spot so it fills a void at the same time. Crazy because Soto was on the verge of getting the biggest deal ever before he got traded to SD. But you only trade for Soto if it comes with an extension because you will definitely be losing some top prospects/talent in the transaction.
  19. No doubt the Jays look good on paper with Ohtani but we all know games aren't won like that. I was just talking about people who say they won't complain if we get Ohtani lol
  20. Maaannn... you know that's a crock because you'd complain this upcoming season if we still suck. Angels sucked with the same guy AND Trout so it's very possible lol.
  21. 0 chance I'd want to give any baseball player 600M... let alone a player who has a chance of just being a DH for most of the contract. This is a type of contract that rarely ever works out and can screw you for the entire length of it. Obviously I'd be pumped to get Ohtani but the backend of that deal is gonna be extreme dark times.
  22. Imagine if we traded Kikuchi afterwards to save some money loll
  23. The ohtani news is unreal. Even if we don't get him has me excited because that means we have A LOT of money to work with this offseason. Getting an impact guy like Soto wouldn't be out of the question. Still wondering where all this funding is coming up for a team that just blew so much on their renovations too.
  24. Ya I'm all for the argument that I'd rather pay Soto and get another stud player instead of Ohtani but I'd rather have Ohtani if the other isn't available obviously. But we all know what this is already... Ohtani will keep using other teams as much as he can to squeeze every penny out of the Dodgers. He's going there without question imo.
  25. Ah yes, the annual Ramirez "rumours" Who the hell says they wanna stay in Cleveland and takes a payout doing it man... he would have been ours otherwise.
