  1. This is what makes me think they might be discussing an extension. I would have expected the opt out to be announced already, but my thinking is perhaps the Jays have asked him not to do so yet as part of extension negotiations (like perhaps they add more in the years following in exchange for him picking up the option for the first year or something along that line.
  2. I haven't seen any news on Bieber opting out. Do you suppose this means the Jays and him are in talks on an extension?
  3. True, but I hope to god IKF can get back to the bag faster than Max Muncy had he had a lead as big as muncy was off the base...otherwise just leave Bo in hobbled and all. Gimenez clearly tried to go the other way on his liner. Varsho wasn't going to be doing that.
  4. Honestly, I would guess that these guys were already hearing good things about Toronto from Kikuchi. Many of the younger guys idolized him..
  5. It is so nice that this thread started about a month later than usual!
  6. I'm just thankful we didn't lose in 7 in 1992 or 1993. 11 and 12 year old me would NOT have been able to handle a loss like this.
  7. This, I will be interested to see the XBa of the clement hit, the Vlad line drive to the gap that was caught and the Kirk liner to Muncy.
  8. Nope, that’s the kind of deflating thing this team has rallied behind all postseason.
  9. Doesn’t he swing a way heavier bat than anyone else in the league?
  10. Jesus, I can’t believe he hit that that far and somehow found a gap.
  11. Could someone please ask Blake Snell for his thoughts on this?
  12. Yep, the rule was introduced at the same time (or as part of) the shift rules.
  13. Here's hoping for another storybook moment like this one tonight! This is when legends are born!
  14. Hmm, I wonder if the three batter rule would apply if they move to a different spot in the field? I suspect it would if they start the inning.
  15. I'm not sure any manager would have the cajones to try this. If it worked you would be lauded but if it doesn't work out you might get raked across the coals and run out of town. Judging by the fact a 2B and SS can't swap positions every batter it might only be possible to do mid-inning if another player is removed from the game.
  16. I get it for those guys a bit, but even at minimum salary for a year they are making more than many people on this board will make in 10-20 years. Yes, 15% or more goes to agents, managers, union and clubhouse fees, but still hard to feel too concerned for them once they make the big leagues. The minors is no joke though and most of those guys are sorely underpaid. Think about Lukes who toiled away for ten years....can't help but feel happy for him. I've never understood why a team wouldn't jump at the opportunity to pay their minor league guys a living wage so they can focus fully on baseball, recovery, nutrition, etc in the offseason rather than working 2-3 jobs to survive. It's seems like a relatively cheap competitive advantage but maybe ruffling the feathers of the other cheap billionaires prevents it. I also get for some of these guys a single years paycheck is all they will get so the playoff salary will be great for them....but specifically Trey, I don't think it is as crazy.
  17. Trey just answered a terrible question the best way he could. He's not struggling by any means as he had a $4 million signing bonus. That's more money than I have made in a 21 year career in a relatively high paying job. He's doing just fine.
  18. Slider guy would do this much better than me but even in Manoah’s near CY season the advanced metrics showed he was over performing who he really was and really should have been looked at more like mid rotation starter. Unfortunately, even that is a pipe dream at this point.
  19. To be fair, they haven’t exactly knocked it out of the park with their first round picks. Yesavage and 1.5 years of Manoah are basically it for success with their first round jury still out on some guys. It’s astounding when looking at the drafts on bRef how often the Jays are one of the few teams with guys who didn’t even make it to the majors.
  20. I believe Okamoto is the guy I was reading about who has struggled mightily against velocity in Japan. And I think the number was only 94 mph, which is not that common in the NPB but is extremely common in MLB. That's a bit concerning.
  21. I think it will still mean a ton to him...not as much as one as a player would have but it is still a tremendous accomplishment to be a part of it in any capacity.
  22. The Dodgers first crack at Yesavage was with him nowhere near his best as he couldn't locate his best pitch. Yamamoto was at his very best and maybe he repeats that, but let's hope not as it is hard to do.
  23. I don't even know how I found my way to bluejaysmessageboard after the mlb board went dead but I'm glad I did. I was more of a lurker on the MLB board so I certainly didn't get an invite :)
  24. It is, but do you know what makes that happen over and over again against the best pitchers? Not striking out.
