The plane wouldn't land until about 4:30-5 PM ET on a Friday.. That would mean there wouldn't be a press conference until Saturday if valid. You would think they would want to do something like that on a Monday. However, no reason to have a press conference at 11:30 AM Friday while your superstar is on the plane....

Back to Ohtani.... I would be cautious of these guys in "the know posts". I saw that guy who was the first to announce/broke Freeman was signing with the Dodgers, also posted the other day that Ohtani will is close to signing a $600 million dollar deal with the Dodgers. There are guys in the, "know" on both/all sides.. Also, if it was so secret that only certain execs were involved and the edict is loose lips sink ships, how would a guy not in the loop, know how the meeting went in Dunedin...??? Could be valid info, might be fluff... I would really take all non confirmed/verified sources that don't have to put their pro reputation on the line and confirm and crosscheck with a grain of salt.. I think I told this story before.. However, Vernon Wells told me to my face in a private setting he was NOT signing with the Jays and was going to play in Texas. Basically he was like f*** NO he is not signing with the Jays... Fast fwd and we all know what happened when we threw enough $$ at him. You never know until verified sources or an official announcement..

Last year was Varsho’s 2nd full season in MLB. He had one season prior to the Jays. He came up his first year, sucked as many rookies do, then did much better when he came up the second time after being sent down. He was decent the year before we got him and had power for a CF which is what he was. Hopefully will improve this year with the bat. The base running and D are grade A.

As many have said, the Padres were not looking for a catcher in a deal. The Yankees catcher was the last piece of the deal. The Padres have Campusano but are losing over 90 starts from 2023 in FA and can't afford to replace that via FA. We would have had to clean out our pitching closet, which isn't exactly full.... I am positive the Yankees are going to the FA route to replenish the pitching they just lost..

Those names make me puke.. We can't go balls in and then count on those guys, or guys who don't even have a cup of coffee in MLB to be a factor.

I was thinking we missed out on an opportunity with Eugenio Suarez... The Diamondbacks didn't really give up a lot for him.. Nice pop, plays a solid 3b.... Regardless if we were getting Soto, Ohtani, etc, we still needed a 3b with pop.

Ohtani is different than Soto, than anyone really. Industry consensus is that your ROI on having Ohtani on your team is $25 million a year for the ball club. Therefore, if Ohtani is getting AAV of $50 million, it is really only a $25 million dollar spend for the ball club per year. $25 million per year is very doable for superstar and a large market club. As much as I wanted Soto, and he would boost attendance etc, he is not bringing an ROI of anywhere near $25 million a year to the team.

How could we beat that easily..? I assume your assuming they value Manoah over King and RT much more than Thorpe?? I don't think that is the case...
