  1. steals , hit and runs or both ?
  2. right, and thus I don't see the nickname 'Buntoyo' being used around this forum lately. I would rather see them do a few straight steals and hit and run plays. may as well try something at this point
  3. Hard to judge Montoyo conclusively on the body of work so far. Might have to give him at least until this time next year and see how things are trending. Then again, we argue back and forth about how much difference a manager makes and sometimes you realize there is no right answer. In a way I think it is more so the combined people behind the scenes (coaches/instructors/strategists) both at the minor league and MLB level who make the difference - see Rays with pitifully low payroll and top 5 record in MLB currently.
  4. just directed at the board regulars / long time members in general. I realize there may be a lot of scepticism of 'newbies' that pop up and start posting regularly. It's certainly not always easy to distinguish between those who are well-meaning but just hard-headed and the ones that are truly incorrigible.....
  5. highlight of the game !?
  6. FFS, their pitcher is now 2 for 3 in this game:confused:
  7. yes but at this point I guess you throw the scoreboard out and focus on whether your young players are actually learning anything about how to play the game at this highest level moving forward. Big job for Montoyo et al. to steer this ship right now.
  8. You can only use your bullpen so much - I suspect our bullpen is near the top of MLB in innings pitched this season. Anyone ?
  9. In the first 3 innings no less ? ETA f*** I posted that with a 6-2 game and the bases loaded then they hit a 3 run double
  10. Yeah that's what I was saying. I guess the question is do you set someone, who is new, straight with the facts and see if they accept and concede the point. The problem can be if you just tell someone you don't know what the hell you are talking about without explaining why that is. Then they may just assume you just have a differing opinion (as Carlos Danger suggested) and automatically put up a non-objective defense.
  11. I think it is partly due to the poster not being properly aware of what the f*** the situation was at the time these proposed or actual trades took place. The fact the Jays got anything for Donaldson after the disasterous way his 2018 season went is a positive. Also comparing the trade after the season Falherty had in 2018 compared to the 2017-18 offseason is the obvious logical flaw. But maybe consider pointing these things out instead of just calling peiople stupid - not everyone spends the requisite time keeping up to date with all the baseball goings on to make 'intelligent posts'.
  12. Yeah a real fan represents for his team through thick and thin. Have fun and I hope they play well for you!
  13. Josh Bell apparently has recorded more total bases in May than anyone since Willie Mays in 1958 (and that includes Mr May himself!!)
  14. Yeah complaining about what the Jays got in return for JA Happ is ridiculous. To say he is not and never was an elite pitcher is putting it kindly (I mean the guy is solid in recent years but nothing spectacular). But it would be difficult to get teams to part with their "starters with 2+ years of control left" unless they have really given up on them or you are offering premium talent in return. But what little premium talent the Jays have that is at or near MLB ready is needed for their own roster at this point. I think the better bet is to keep their own guy (Stroman) and maybe sign one or two more free agents this off season. ETA: Sanchez to the bullpen yesterday please
  15. Brito was actually not part of the Pillar deal (was obtained from San Diego at the same time period). The 3rd player acquired in that one is the young pitcher Juan De Paula. The general scouting report has a 4th starter ceiling on him, but he is also only 21 so could be something down the road.
  16. I don't care how bad the stadium is, with your ace (reigning Cy Young winner) pitching and the team on pace for 102 wins, that crowd is a total disgrace.
  17. Yeah on that link the current Jays 25 man roster ($51 M) is only higher than 3 teams (Pirates, Orioles and Rays). And that is barely higher than the listed $48M of dead money
  18. He did but used up a lot of prospect capital in the process. Had we won the 2015 (or 2016, still largely his team then) championship, maybe it would have been considered worth it. As far as Shatkins, I also think the Diaz for Thornton deal could turn out to be a good one along with the Osuna for Giles+ trade. Of note Hector Perez, acquired in that deal, had a really rough start to the year at AA, but is looking much better in his last 5 outings (2.51 ERA in 28 2/3 ip). But overall I am not too comfortable with these guys in charge. I might actually respect Shapiro more if he moved Atkins (who seems over his head) out of the GM role and replace with someone more adept (Cherington ??).
  19. Yeah you ought to play for pride regardless of the score, but that seems to be a lost thing nowadays with the younger generation.
  20. No offense, crap defense, what's not to like
  21. So you think the tone set by Shatkins is leading to the country club atmosphere?
  22. I know the lights there are notorious for being problematic, but it's not like the Jays don't player there regularly. Isn't that also partly on him for losing it in the lights?
  23. My opinion is he is getting the kind of traditional rookie hitter treatment where he gets less benefit of the close calls than an established veteran might (especially against veteran pitchers).
  24. Seems to have come back pretty strong : see DeGrom (since cut his), Syndergaard, Hader, etc
  25. Yeah all the bounces going against the Jays on this one.
