Blue Jays (Gausman) vs A's (Lopez): 7/12/25, 10:05pm

The last two times you lost your s*** about the team not starting Barger against a lefty starter the replacements had good games in his place. Eventually I'd hope you'd stop bitching about this but that's kind of your thing bitching about things you don't fully understand, so that's likely wishful thinking on my part. If Springer sits for an extra day at the end of a gruelling 16 game in 16 day stretch as a nearly 36 year old player it's bitch bitch moan, when Barger is pulled right before a game starts due to a minor injury you straight up call him a pussy, if a young player in Barger who really struggles against left handed pitching misses 2 PA at the start of the game it's more whining, when the closer has his first bad game in 6 weeks now he absolutely can't close in the post season etc. etc. etc. It's just non stop complaining at every single opportunity and it's honestly kind of exhausting. -

And Stephen, Rojas, Stanifer, Watts Brown etc. Further down are promising arms such as King, Barriera, etc. -

This post aged like unrefrigerated milk. Jimenez hit a home run early in the game vs watching Barger most likely struggle, and when Barger faced a left handed reliever later in the game he was completely overmatched. This is likely hard for you to accept but maybe just maybe the Blue Jays front office is simply smarter than you are. -

This is entirely due to the 4-12/-45 run differential stretch of games in late April-early May. The Blue Jays have taken the lead in the AL East based on a phenomenal run of baseball since the team wide struggles ended. I've maintained all along that this outlier stretch of baseball was going to skew the run differential for the entirety of the season, and it paints a picture of a team that's being dramatically overproducing their expected win/loss differential based on a relatively short period where they were likely MLB's worst team. From May 8-present the Blue Jays feature an MLB best 39-19 record, with a corresponding +60 run differential in these 58 games. It's reasonable to suggest that maybe the team has been a little fortunate to have enjoyed the type of record they have during this stretch of games, but it's not a giant fluke that the overall season's run differential would seem to suggest. -

I don't know if I'd say the 1 run game results are necessarily based on luck, but it's not something that you would expect to be sustainable in the long term. -

I fully believe an offseason shoulder injury was to blame for Manoah's 2023 woes. He featured dramatically reduced stuff and command right from pitch 1 in games that season. Being so out of shape certainly didn't help him when he got further into games but I don't think the pitch clock explains the regression of the quality of his pitches and the sudden inability to command them. -
Blue Jays (Scherzer) vs A's (Severino): 7/11/25, 10:05pm

I don't think the club necessarily needs to replace Hoffman in the closer role, but acquiring another arm capable of closing out games would be a tremendous asset to the club. Hoffman has been dramatically overworked at times as he's pitched 4 times in 5 days on 3 separate occasions this season. Finding another closing capable arm would help to lessen Hoffman's workload and give the manager a second option to use. -

There are 3 surefire things in life. Death, taxes, and panicky overreactions from Jays24. This was the first bad outing for Hoffman in nearly 6 weeks, yet here you are proclaiming how Hoffman simply can't be the closer in the playoffs. He's still 22/26 in saves which is a very good conversion rate. I believe a key will be for Schneider to avoid using up all his effective leverage arms leading up to Hoffman if at all possible, as Hoffman is human after all and just like every other closer in the sport doesn't have his best stuff and command every time out. It would be wise to keep backup available to Hoffman on those days where he can't get the job done. -

With so many players on the injured list presently the team has largely been running B lineups over the last few weeks with plenty of C lineups sprinkled in as well. -
For the first time in approximately half a decade deGrom appears to be fully healthy, so with a bit of good fortune he's potentially found a way to largely put the injury issues behind him. Having said that with his extensive/varied injury history it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest for him to blow out his shoulder/elbow/lat on a moment's notice and be gone for the rest of the season.
-
I'd love to see the team acquire deGrom, but this is highly contingent on acquisition cost given his propensity to miss large swaths of time due to injury.
-
I'd like the front office to acquire Alcantara, but ideally this would be something that's accomplished in the offseason as he's a bit of a reclamation project at present and there's a good chance he wouldn't help the pitching staff to any degree this season. With a full offseason to work out of the Dunedin training complex working with the pitching coaches he could be ready to return to being a more productive rotation member next season.

Atkins needs to get on the phone asap to hunt for bullpen reinforcements. Estrada should be able to come back up soon to add some length to the pen but the team is suddenly very short on quality middle relief options. -

It felt like the bubble was going to burst eventually with the continuous stream of "B" type lineups we've been seeing recently. The team could really benefit from getting Varsho and Gimenez back, hopefully they can each return shortly after the break although I haven't heard any updates on the potential timeline for Gimenez. -

Yeah I'm fully willing to wait at least a few more outings before starting to write the guy off. -
Are you this dumb on purpose?

I recall the Rogers Center takes an extra hit in the early going with the roof closed. The lower humidity levels combined with the humidor create conditions where the baseball doesn't fly very well. -

Yeah that's pretty awful. He didn't throw it much as his sinker was the primary pitch at 55% usage, with the 4 seamer only used 14% of the time. -

I don't think it's fair to characterize Vlad's defensive play at first base as being poor this season as he's improved tremendously to the point where he's even by OAA and +6 by DRS. I still hold out hope that he fixes his timing at the plate to the point where a hot streak is possible but he's still been a valuable contributor offensively this season even in a somewhat mediocre offensive season by his standards. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the baseball is partially to blame for Vlad's suppressed results as compared to the expected statistics. This year's baseball is the deadest baseball MLB has produced since they started tracking the coefficient of drag. I believe MLB needs to automate the construction of the baseball so that they can finally start producing a more consistent product year in and year out. -

I don't have a good feel for the stuff as of yet but the command was legitimately awful for his Blue Jays debut. -

I fully agree that the team needs another leverage arm asap. Schneider was forced to use Green in leverage situations due to the pen largely being on fumes and each game having important relievers unavailable, but thank goodness Green managed to largely smoke and mirrors his way into some effective outings. -

So the guy who spent the entirety of the off-season boldly proclaiming how the team should be blown up is accusing another board member of making himself look stupid. -

If the team wasn't willing to use Pina in an 8-1 game against the White Sox then he shouldn't be on the roster to start with. This was the perfect game to give him a chance to show what he could do without torching the team's chances of winning. On top of that we saw a recent Berrios start where he was similarly in cruise control and from out of nowhere gave up a huge inning to the Yankees to allow them back into the game. I maintain it's always far better to pull a starter a tad too early then leaving him in too long. -

I believe a big part of why Kirk didn't catch more was due to the team employing two starter quality catching options on the roster. Kirk and Jansen made for a fantastic 1/2 punch for the team as they largely enjoyed MLB's most productive catching tandem with the two of them on the roster. Thank goodness the team appears to have chosen the right catcher to keep as Jansen has largely lost his ability to hit and has become a pretty lousy defender as well whereas Moreno hasn't developed offensively much beyond a league average bat.
