  1. That response is generally saved for you specifically. You constantly call the team manager/general manager/data department a bunch of dumbasses/stupid/insert insult of choice so this leads to an easy retort about how you aren't necessarily smarter than the group of baseball professionals that actually runs the team. You tend to have a bunch of kneejerk overreactions and don't stop to take even a few seconds to ponder why certain moves are made before flying off the handle. The manager in particular has a treasure trove of data available at his fingertips, on top of information from the high performance department, a list of which relievers are available, first hand information from the players themselves how they are feeling that day/in that instant etc.
  2. I don't recall ever suggesting the guy was perfect by any means, but some of the criticism he's faced is pretty over the top.
  3. This dude is literally incapable of admitting that he's ever wrong on anything.
  4. My only real complaint with Atkins' trade deadlines has been his outright failure to acquire useful bats for the lineup. He's more often than not acquired dudes in the midst of bad seasons at the plate.
  5. This is eerily reminiscent of the 4-12/-45 run differential stretch in late April/early May as the Jays got their asses handed to them regularly in a bunch of blowout games during that period. It immediately preceded the crazy run up the standings so hopefully this is something they get out of their system in relatively short order.
  6. We can only hope that France manages to produce closer to the .342 xwOBA for the duration of the season.
  7. I don't think it's fair to call Roden a slap hitter by any means but I do believe that the emergence of Barger and Loperfido essentially made him expendable. Loperfido is by no means proven at this point but I do believe that he and Roden were essentially competing for a single outfield spot, and with Loperfido making such a sizable improvement to his strikeout rate this allowed the team to utilize Roden as a trade chip.
  8. Swanson was effectively ruined by a series of forearm issues. It's certainly possible that something similar could happen to Varland, but Varland presently features much better stuff than Swanson ever did and as such can better afford a bit of a reduction to his stuff due to injury.
  9. Pop wasn't able to generate the same type of strikeout numbers as Varland has in his first season as a reliever, and you seem to be forgetting that he was only part of the Blue Jays return in that trade as Anthony Bass was also acquired and was in the midst of an excellent season at the time of trade.
  10. Zach Pop is a legitimately terrible comparison player for Varland and isn't someone you should be bringing up to outline why attaining Varland is so bad.
  11. Gausman will obviously need to put up more than 2 ace level starts but his last 2 times out were very encouraging. He carved up the Yankees with an elite fastball that day and followed this up with the elite bat missing version of his splitter against the Giants. I'm particularly encouraged by the improved splitter movement as this has largely been missing the last few seasons. I believe it's far more realistic for Alek to return to this type of form next season. At this point he's only about 13 months out from surgery and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he struggles a bit with command. On top of that he's the team's 7th rotation option once Bieber is good to go, and barring injury from one of the first 6 starters it's possible he doesn't even make his way back to the 26/27 man roster at any point this season.
  12. I believe you are dramatically overreacting here. Varland offers the rare pen combination of elite stuff and command and presents a ton of upside. He's already produced a full win above replacement with 1/3 of the season left to go and has a shot to be the team's best reliever for the next 5 seasons. I see elite closer potential in this guy, and if he doesn't reach that level he's likely a fine setup man moving forward. For what it's worth baseball trade values lists this trade as a tiny overpay in favor of the Twins with Varland being the most valuable piece involved. This is Varland's first year pitching primarily out of the pen and outside of potential injury I see no reason to expect him to suddenly turn into a pumpkin. Rojas and Roden have proven literally nothing in MLB and neither of them are the sort of sure fire studs that you seem to be suggesting.
  13. I think it's far more likely that Gausman rediscovers his ace form vs Manoah morphing back into a post season level starter this season.
  14. That's just adorable that you are referring to other Blue Jays fans as casuals.
  15. Sitting on the injured list.
  16. I really like Rojas but I think he's a very real risk to end up in the bullpen given his difficulties in avoiding the injured list. Varland produced similarly dominant numbers in his stint in the minor leagues, and this could very well be a case of the Blue Jays trading a future reliever and a corner outfielder who was largely blocked by others in the system for a reliever with stud potential. I think that Varland very well may be a pitch mix tweak or two away from becoming a back of the bullpen monster.
  17. Who gives a flying f*** what Doval did last year?
  18. This is Varland's first year as a reliever. He has a nearly 40% whiff rate curveball and I think with a bit of tweaking to his pitch arsenal he's a monster lying in wait.
  19. I'll grant you the second claim but there's not a snowball's chance in hell for the first outrageous claim.
  20. Last I checked Will Wagner was on a major league roster. In fact he was receiving regular starts on one of MLB's best teams.
  21. It's literally a once in a lifetime thing for a player to watch his father be inducted into the baseball hall of fame. I think it would be weird for a second generation major leaguer to pass up on this type of occasion.
  22. Yeah that's perfectly fair.
  23. I'd guess the White Sox are asking for too much in trade. Robert is likely a rental as I don't think there is a front office aside from the White Sox who would consider picking up his $20 million option for next season.
  24. He's dropped the strikeout rate to 25% in AAA.
