  1. I'll go with Dylan Cease as a potentially available front of the rotation rental.
  2. McMahon is also a very solid defender and I believe he has a more realistic shot to not be a giant black hole offensively. McMahon's numbers away from Coors Field are terrible at 64 wRC+, but Hayes actually manages to be far worse away from home at 36 wRC+.
  3. Hayes 61 wRC+ over the last two seasons is MLB's worst with players at a minimum of 700 PA. With McMahon it would require more of an incremental level of improvement required to allow him to reach being a league average bat and he's a far more suitable addition to a team intending to compete.
  4. And he has a rather sizable home/away split as well. The Statcast expected home runs chart doesn't show him gaining any kind of home run bump from playing in Yankee Stadium, but they have had success in boosting the success at the plate of their trade acquisitions many times in the past.
  5. Barger sort of defies explanation as he drastically reduced his strikeout rate at the major league level, but all of Wagner, Schneider and Loperfido were enjoying sustained runs of success in AAA after slow starts.
  6. This seems like something that could eventually require surgery to correct. Hopefully the cortisone shot allows him to successfully return at some point this season but those always feel like more of a bandaid solution and there's often a price to be paid later.
  7. It's sort of a pick your poison scenario as each of them have endured painful seasons. Both of these guys are reclamation projects at this point. Alcantara has a far more reasonable contract and more realistic upside to offer to whatever team helps to get him turned around.
  8. I don't tend to think that Kwan would represent enough of an upgrade to the club compared to what they already possess in house to make it worthwhile to pay the prospect cost of acquiring him. While the farm system is in dramatically better shape compared to a season ago at this time there aren't unlimited trade resources available. During the wild run up the standings the Blue Jays are MLB's second highest scoring team, being only a single run behind the first place Rays while playing one less game. I just don't see another left handed hitting outfielder being a huge priority given the somewhat pedestrian pitching staff that the team employs.
  9. Just because the Blue Jays can take on bad contracts doesn't make a good case that they should be doing so. Severino may be cheap in terms of prospect capital due to his onerous salary, but he's earning number 3 starter money and largely producing value closer to that of a number 4/5. I don't think the Blue Jays need to do the Athletics a massive favor in taking this contract off of their hands.
  10. Alcantara is a total reclamation project at this point of time, and I'd want no part of sending a large prospect package out in a deadline deal as it's far from a given that he could even return to being an effective rotation member this season. Unless the Marlins are looking to just get out of his deal and not extract maximum prospect return I doubt that they'll sell him at the deadline as I suspect they'd be receiving pennies on the dollar compared to if they manage to get him back to resembling the more effective past version of himself.
  11. That depends on which metric you are looking at. Yankees are 6th by DRS at +33 but down in 20th by OAA at -6.
  12. Something something run differential. Michael Kay is likely mainlining Prozac right now and I'm all for it.
  13. You were stating a few short months ago that this team had no future whatsoever so your standards are obviously not particularly aligned with reality.
  14. What are you even basing this on? Every time Vlad is struggling this type of criticism immediately gets tossed his way. What do you expect the front office to do exactly if you think he's ignoring the coaches, send him to the timeout corner or something?
  15. I had a peak at the Statcast box score for Alcanatara's start today and he allowed 10 hard hit balls so it appears as though he was rather fortunate to escape without allowing further damage.
  16. Severino's slider has only garnered a 14% whiff rate this season so it's not a great pitch although it's been more effective at generating whiffs in prior seasons. His sweeper is a tad better but still only 21% whiff rate. Perhaps if he spent an offseason in a quality pitching lab he could redesign his pitch mix a bit to unlock a higher ceiling as he's more of an innings eater type at present.
  17. I'm lukewarm on Severino. My concern with him is that despite the high end velocity he's morphed into a pitch to contact guy. I thought that this could be due to a poorly optimized pitch mix but he's simply not garnering whiffs with any of his offerings this season.
  18. I think the primary reason that Clement has faced so many right handed pitchers during his slump is due to Gimenez being on the shelf with an ankle injury. With Wagner playing quite a bit of third base the only real alternatives on the roster for second base duties are Clement, Schneider and Jimenez. Subbing in Jimenez would largely be shuffling the deck chairs swapping one struggling hitter for another, and it appears as though the club prefers using Schneider primarily in left field at this point.
  19. The effective platooning throughout the lineup is one of the key reasons why this has been a top offensive squad since the calendar turned to May. I have zero issues with Barger sitting for a few plate appearances to start a game vs watching him being completely overmatched against tough lefties. This team plays far too many close games with little margin of error and needs to maximize the matchup advantages when it's available to them. Barger is a weapon off of the bench, and the club has shown zero hesitation towards getting him into the game as soon as a right handed matchup is available to them.
  20. This is justly needlessly over reactionary. Hoffman is only human, and if you expect that there is a single pitcher in the entire sport that doesn't occasionally allow runs then you are in for a very rude awakening.
  21. Schneider has used Hoffman in particular in 4 out of 5 times on 3 separate occasions this season, so it wouldn't surprise me to see Hoffman used in a close game.
  22. You are incapable of going a single game without complaining about something. It's kind of astounding that you would actually whine about a manager using his leverage relievers in a very close/meaningful game in the 8th inning. No matter how good things are going with this team you keep finding reasons to go out of your way to whine, because you are literally impossible to please.
  23. Little's curveball is arguably MLB's nastiest pitch and he's one of MLB's best leverage relievers. It's downright asinine that you would be complaining about using him in a close game against a division rival. Gausman is probably the team's most important rotation arm, and the extra rest he received prior to this start was likely a massive contributing factor to how effective he was. He's accumulated a lot of mileage on his arm, and after he produced a stellar 7 inning start there was no reason to push him further as the team has a very solid leverage group in their bullpen and only needed to produce 6 outs. Sooner or later you'll be forced to admit that the manager, pitching coach and front office are far more knowledgeable about how to run a pitching staff and manage a game than you are.
  24. That one struck me as being particularly egregious. I just couldn't believe that you'd expend that amount of time whining about bringing in one of MLB's nastiest relievers to face a division rival after the starter produced a very solid 7 inning start for the team.
