  1. A record amount of hits in a WS is both a great accomplishment and a small sample not nearly enough to dictate whether someone should be starting. But my post clearly outlined that he would receive very regular playing time, just spread around the three positions as needed. His projections have him as a slightly below average bat which is in line with what he has done in 1404 career plate appearances. He really doesn't profile as a starting 3B or 2B bat despite the playoff heroics. I don't think it's disparaging in the slightest to want him in a utility role that could still have him playing nearly every day. As I've stated as have others, if the "starting" 2B/SS/3B are Bo/Gimenez/Barger...there would be plenty of room there for Clement to get his 400+ at bats
  2. I feel like Ernie is best used as a utility guy who will still end up with 400+ PA for the reasons you stated. Between some short side platoon days against lefties, providing off days for 2B/SS/3B and filling those spots for any injuries, he'll still get his at bats. It's such a big luxury to have a cheap guy who is a legit player in that spot, as opposed to a defense first noodle bat.
  3. https://www.si.com/mlb/pirates/onsi/news/pittsburgh-pirates-tommy-pham-lofty-goals-before-retirement Good for a chuckle on a dreary Thursday
  4. In Oakland they couldn't afford a net to get the possum out of the visiting broadcast booth, but in Vegas they'll have a Skydome on stilts
  5. Definitely move Berrios first, and hopefully one of the vets would sign here fairly cheap out of comfort and desire to win.
  6. We don't at this point, but could at some juncture and would be glad to have a proven vet starter around over calling up a gas can. Bassitt has shown he can be an effective RP and provides the flexibility to fill innings as needed. Could turn out to be invaluable if we run into a couple injuries.
  7. I like the idea of signing one of the old dudes (Max/Bassitt) for a swingman role for extra SP depth.
  8. Kelly is sort of quietly one of the better SP options remaining on the FA market. He's getting up there in age but was still a top 30ish SP in the bigs last year and had produced 3+ wins in three of the last four seasons (injured in 2024).
  9. I would say no, unless he gets traded.
  10. I could see mixing in some sixth starter/BP days yeah
  11. Nah he's in the bigs. Time to move Berrios with the free agent SP market so bare now Gausman, Cease, Bieber, Yesavage, Ponce is filthy. If any of these righties happen to have an off night, we turn to lefty Lauer for length out of the pen.
  12. With the lack of higher upside SP options on the FA market, someone will pay Ponce like a #4 SP for 3-4 years.
  13. The Diaz contract will work as a rough framework for what Williams could have perhaps been able to fetch with a more usual season by the latter's standards, both being the same age (31) and two of the most elite relievers prior to Williams dip. Williams may not have lost much in annual salary but perhaps in his total guarantee, with teams still willing to commit big reliever money in the short term but evidently not on a long term deal. A less questionable Williams may have ended up with an extra 30-40M
  14. Yeah it's high end reliever money for a high end reliever, for only three years I would have been totally fine with it. I'd take Robert Suarez on a similar contract
  15. Wow that's crazy to hear that we are signing Diaz

  17. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-offseason-dates-rules-and-terms Rule V draft is Dec 10th
  18. Does Cease make excuses?
  19. There are teams (I mentioned the O's and A's) who aren't getting anything of quality out of the free agent pile, and as far as starting pitching goes, there isn't much there anyway. Sure they can try and sign free agent SP's, but once that market completely dries up, they'll have to pivot. Berrios with his track record, may seem more enticing than having to overpay to attract some gas can starter.
  20. A decent prospect (maybe top 150-200ish range) and change. We reallocate his salary to a high end RP and perhaps bring back one of the veteran SP for the rotation mix
  21. There are a clubs like the A's and O's who need veteran pitching and will always have a hard time attracting the starters of any quality. They should be interested in Berrios if he's made available.
  22. Rogers, Bradish, Kremer, Wells, Povich
