    Lol you must really hate me if you think correctly answering a question is "pumping my tires". I suggest using the IL if your ego can't handle me providing the answers to your questions. There was no attempt at starting a fight, I'm not the one who needs to get over one's self here. By the way you already asked the first question in the previous rule five thread and I answered for you, retain that s***.

    Lol don't ask questions if you don't want the answer. The Jays left him unprotected, obviously not seeing him as a candidate to pitch in the bigs this year. Every other teams passed on selecting him for the same reason. I think that it goes without saying that he's fairly unlikely to be considered for a big league spot in ST.

    After a pair of trades the Padres now have the rights to each of the first three players selected today.

    The Reds took two catchers in the major league portion. I'm assuming they'll let them fight it out for the backup job in ST?

    We already have a CF and Hamilton's bat doesn't exactly play in a corner. Sure he's lightning fast but he really isn't the type of player to complain about missing on.

    Correct, anyone selected in the major league portion has to either stay on your 25 man all year or be offered back to their previous club.

    Sounds like a #4/5 starter or swingman profile. Will be interesting to see if we can get a strong contribution out not the rule V for a second straight year.

    I mean I don't blame them for hating Bautista, he has made Baltimore his bitch over the years. It's a stupid reason to refrain from trying to improve your ball club though. Just finished reading that the O's are interested in Chris Carter, they really do have a 'type'.

    Assuming the $50M figure is roughly correct... Year 1 ~ $18M - Bautista gets to save face and makes slightly more than the QO he turned down. Year 2 Player Option worth ~ 17M - Bautista can opt to decline and chase a bigger guarantee next winter if he has a bounce back year Year 3 Club Option ~ 15M or buyout for ~ 3M - If Bautista suffers through a couple injury plagued seasons, we can buy him out (total investment 38M/2 years) and save a few million.

    I'd be uncomfortable with three guaranteed years. Maybe year two could be a player option and the third year a club option or buyout? If Bautista has a rebound season he could decline the option and chase a bigger multi year deal without a pick attached to him next winter. If he ends up struggling through a couple injury prone seasons, we effectively end up paying back some of the money he missed out on by being on such a team friendly deal for the past few years - and one of our all time greats gets to retire as a Blue Jay.

    Eaton obviously would cost a lot more to acquire than Fowler (2 or 3 top prospects vs one 1st round pick). But the dollar savings (7M-10M) would be enough to also add a good lefty reliever and a back up catcher.

    If the White Sox are in sell mode, would a package headlined by Alford + SRF get the ball rolling on an Eaton trade?

    A lot of guys predicted to be debuting by the end of 2018 or sooner. Hopefully a handful of core pieces emerge out of the group.

    I don't mind that platoon if 30-50% of Smoak starts go to Morales with others taking off days at DH.
