  1. I think we'll be signing another 1B but EE is now too expensive as we still need at least one outfielder, a backup catcher, and some relievers. Unless they want to give Collabello a second chance at 1B.
  2. IMO has to be top 5, he surely will make it to the big leagues before the majority of our other prospects.
  3. If this is true, what a great (and unexpected) signing!
  4. My suggestion for points (happy to change this if people think it's not fair) Correct team = 4 points Correct years = 3 points Correct AAV (rounded up to whole numbers) = 5 points AAV within 2m each way = 2 points Correct opt out (y/n) = 1 point Correct option (y/n) = 1 point
  5. In NorthOf49's absence I've set up this year's contest. Instructions Set up a Google account https://accounts.google.com/signup (takes 30 seconds, you don't need to use real details if you don't intend to use it for anything else) Click this link which takes you to the master spreadsheet in Google Sheets: Google Sheets link Right click it in Google Drive (free cloud based storage for anyone with a Google account) and make a copy of the spreadsheet and rename it to your BJMB member name Complete the copy spreadsheet using the drop down options for each free agent Right click the copy in Drive and share with freeagentpredictioncontest@gmail.com the Google account I've set up for this contest. If you have a smart phone then both Google Drive and Google Sheets have their own apps for you to use instead of a PC. I'll collate all responses (I'll be making copies of entries submitted to me to prevent changes to your originals!), and at the end of the offseason I'll announce the top 3, and publish a summary schedule of everyone’s results.
  6. As it looks like NorthOf49 isn't going to set one up, I don't mind doing one? I could set up a Google doc with the top 50 free agents, create a new Google account to host it (takes 30 seconds to set one up), then share the link. I'm thinking options for team / years / AAV / opt out (y/n) / option (y/n). I'd set it up with variables so you just select from a drop down box. Yea or Nay?
  7. Remember before the start of last season when the Pelicans and Anthony Davis were the popular darkhorse picks for playoffs? After last season's disappointment, they've started 0-7 despite Davis averaging 30 ppg.
  8. http://www.breakingblue.ca/2015/10/23/the-2016-blue-jays-according-to-steamer/ EE = 2.9, Jose = 3.8. Note that this was before any offseason roster moves so Price is still there, there's no Happ etc.
  9. Disagree, we should be signing both a 1B/DH and an OF and need to fit that within the budget. For example if signing Cepedes meant we'd have Smoak and whoever we can get on waivers (or other cheap option) for 1B, that's worse IMO then signing EE and having an outfield of Carrera, Pompey, Pillar, Upton and a dirt cheap signing.
  10. This is a great question but shouldn't be looked at in isolation. I think it's fairer to say do you want EE and a cheap outfielder, or Cepedes/Fowler and a cheap 1B/DH. I doubt we'll be signing two big contracts guys for both positions.
  11. 5th year makes it too much in my eyes. 4 years is just about doable, but even then I'd prefer the last year to have a buyout. I don't think he'll get that much (he certainly won't from us) so this doesn't necessarily mean he's gone yet.
  12. Mark Trumbo is the opposite of what the Jays need. He strikes out a ton, doesn't walk, and if he doesn't hit a homerun he gives you nothing on the field or at the plate.
  13. The forum has the same internet problems that all do - insults, trolls, weird obsessives etc. But the mods do a difficult job very well - if there was less moderation you'd have the bleacher report cesspool, if there was more you'd have the Orioles hangout wasteland. Specifically related to Boxcar - he's the poster child for the internet personality of "if you have a different opinion to me, then you're a retard" but to be fair to him, he normally apologises if he goes too far, and he doesn't just shitpost.
  14. And if he'd played in his best position he would have been higher - he was poor in the field. My point is that for the money we'd have to shell out, we should be looking to sign someone who would be playing in their best position to maximise the investment. That doesn't mean to say we should sign a terrible player just because they're a true OF of course.
  15. While I disagree and think there are better fits for our needs, it changes completely if we get him for cheaper than that though - but you'd expect him to get at least 3/45 on the open market.
  16. As a SS sure, but we don't need one, we need 1B/OF/DH. Not a fan of Desmond as an OF. It'd take a fairly hefty contract to secure him, money I'd prefer is spent elsewhere (my preference is resign Edwin).
  17. I wouldn't want to rely on Desmond being a first choice outfielder, and if we're talking about him as a super utility player to cover multiple positions I'd rather use Barney for that and spend the money saved on a first choice decent OF / 1B.
  18. I've never been into Lego even when I was a kid. But hey if you enjoy something who cares what other people think? If you're that bothered just say you bought it for a kid who didn't want it.
  19. Assuming we sign another outfielder as well, it could be a straight competition between Carrera and Pompey to make the 25 man. If Pompey fails to win a role in spring training he should leave for the sake of his career and while he still has some trade value.
  20. Good point, without his injuries he would prob have had a good season, and if was a DH he wouldn't have got turf toe or a sprained knee.
  21. Haha, glad that's cleared up.
  22. Agree it's not a surprise, he's consistently stated he wanted to test the market. There is a chance no one offers enough for what he wants, but he'll prob manage to get up to 3/60 from someone. If it's truly the end of his time here, then thanks for the memories Jose!
  23. Pillar undergoes surgery on thumb It was to repair a torn ligament, says he's back for spring training. Must have been when he "sprained" his thumb running the bases, and was put in the DL in early August.
  24. Fingers crossed! Even best case Bruce would be a short term outfield solution.
  25. You think that's bad, wait until you see the backup for those 4 outfielders - Chris Colabello /s
