  1. Damn it we only just got rid of a 40 year old knuckleballer
  2. And people say that this board is unfriendly to newcomers!
  3. Just to let you know that Pompey is not eligible as he's played enough to lose his rookie status. You may want to edit your list in a PM to King.
  4. Projected to get $1.6m in arbitration so yes. He's better than Goins and can be an emergency LF too. Probably will remain with us until Gurriel is ready.
  5. Yeah you're right. But then this season there's no notable free agent SP, next year there's potentially Arrieta, Darvish, Cueto and others. Either way he's got to be happy with how it's worked out for him, worst case he's still set for life!
  6. Thought he'd back himself to get a long term contract. It's hard to turn down $17m though, slightly more than his total career earnings.
  7. TBF I think we started it too late in the offseason, everyone thought North would do it. Plus there's no prize!
  8. What's a fair amount for both sides? $6-7m AAV?
  9. Joe Carter at 30 had just come off the worst year of his career with the Padres (-2 WAR / 80 +wRC). He'd be a buy low, bounce back project, just like Jay Bruce.
  10. Yeah 5pm Eastern. Think that of the ten who've received a qualifying offer, none will accept, especially with the relatively weak free agent market: Jose Bautista, Toronto Blue Jays Yoenis Cespedes, New York Mets Ian Desmond, Texas Rangers Edwin Encarnación, Toronto Blue Jays Dexter Fowler, Chicago Cubs Jeremy Hellickson, Philadelphia Phillies Kenley Jansen, Los Angeles Dodgers Mark Trumbo, Baltimore Orioles Justin Turner, Los Angeles Dodgers Neil Walker, New York Mets

  12. Yeah you're fully justified to worry - they must have seen something in Smoak that none of us did, and he's got even worse since being extended. But at least Bruce has had a few good seasons in his career, Smoak has never really worked here, and never even put up a 1 WAR season. I'd be happier with signing someone else, but on a one year deal after pursuing him all year, I'm willing to give the front office the benefit of the doubt on Bruce.
  13. Because the front office must have seen something in him that makes them think he'll return to 2013 Bruce when he was better than Saunders has ever been. Let's just hope that they're right.
  14. The front office is all about security. If we were to splash out on an elite player it'd be to put us on another level, not move a weakness from one position to another.
  15. Cutch is only signed for 2 seasons so if they did then there's no trade with us. Losing either Osuna or Sanchez would leave a big hole to fill for this season as well. Guess we could offer silly money to Chapman or Jansen to replace Osuna, but just can't see that happening.
  16. Pompey and Happ? Doubt that's enough though.
  17. I think he still has a chance of having a decent MLB career, but unfortunately probably not with the Jays. His best chance at getting a run in a MLB lineup is prob in a non contending team after a trade as I don't think Gibby trusts him. Short of a significant injury to Pillar, it's difficult to see Pompey being given the chance to start regularly for us.
  18. I would be if it freed up some cash for the bullpen. Carrera is coming back as the 4th outfielder, Pompey needs a good spring training to make the team IMO.
  19. Interesting question. I'd go: Sanchez Stroman Happ Estrada Liriano
  20. I agree with all this, but trump and reason should never appear in the same sentence again after Tuesday.
  21. This. Would be nice to make a statement signing or trade, but I'd be happy with simply an upgrade that doesn't cost $20m AAV or multiple assets.
  22. TLDR - I love this signing.
  23. His older brother Yulieski got $47.5m on a 5 year deal from the Astros, and while he was MLB ready, he's considered the lesser talent. At the time of the Astros signing a lot of press speculation was that one benefit was it giving them a great chance of signing Lourdes.
  24. If he is a new Izturis he could provide around 2 WAR for 4 or 5 years providing millions in surplus value. And there's a real chance he could be significantly better than that. Best thing about this deal is that at $3m a year he could be a total bust and it would never prevent us from signing someone for budget reasons.
  25. If we're coming off another playoff appearance and looking to challenge again then maybe not. If 2017 is a step back I'd expect us be looking to trade Donaldson, Tulo, and Martin. I really hope that doesn't happen though.
