  1. Hamilton would be overpriced as the Reds value him highly, Dyson would be much easier to obtain though only one year of control.
  2. End of 2017 season when Trout's contract goes up to $33m per year.
  3. Ideally we'd get rid of Smoak and have Bautista replace him on either a one year deal or no more than 3 years with an opt out. That would mean Bautista can cover both 1B and the OF, and allow the 25th man to be another outfielder (Revere?) rather than it being Smoak, who can only play 1B and isn't very good.
  4. 25 man squad 7 relievers 5 starters C - Martin 1B - Pearce 2B - Travis 3B - Donaldson SS -Tulowitzki LF - Upton / Carrera CF - Pillar RF - ? DH - Morales Bench Back up catcher Barney Smoak Carrera / Upton
  5. Yeah we'd need to get rid of Smoak to fit both on the 25 man. Unless Revere would accept a minor league deal with a spring training invite.
  6. Agree - if we fail to sign or trade for a decent OF, I'd be happy if we spent more on the bullpen. Carrera, Upton, Pillar and one other has the potential to be OK if Upton doesn't suck this year. We can also trade for a OF upgrade at the deadline if we're still in contention for the playoffs.
  7. Yeah but if you do that your losing the only OF that is currently going to play every game, so we'd still need another one.
  8. If you all just put posters you don't like on your ignore lists, it'd solve a lot of your issues. No need for insults.
  9. And I know it's been pointed out before, but there's a long way to go before spring training starts.
  10. The signing of Morales has a bigger impact than Smoak being on the roster. It doesn't make much sense to have 2 1B/DH types who should both be mainly DH'ing, and spending $30m+ on them when we're looking to add a decent OF stretches the budget to breaking point. And that's just for this season, what do you do in year 2 and 3 when EE and Morales may well be exclusively DH's?
  11. Yeah, seems a long time ago that Floyd was competing with Sanchez to be our 5th starter!
  12. Floyd is a free agent
  13. Is this now confirmed?
  14. Plus Oberholtzer is only on a minor league deal. Makes sense to keep him at AAA and he could be called up when/if there is a place for him.
  15. Hell no. The time to rebuild is after a year or two of being middle of the road and not competing for the playoffs while still having assets that people want. We're coming off 2 straight playoff appearances, have potentially a top 5 rotation, and a mix of controllable talented youngsters (Osuna, Sanchez, Stroman, Travis) and aging (but still talented) stars (JD, Tulo, Martin). There is no reason why we should sacrifice the next 2 or 3 years now - we could make the playoffs this year with a bit of luck, and still be able to trade people like Tulo and Donaldson next year (EDIT - if we wanted to) when some of our prospects will be more ready to take their places.
  16. No, but that's his point - who is available that would be an upgrade.
  17. Find a team who wants a warm body for 1B and will pay at least some of his salary. Otherwise simply send him down to AAA, which he would probably refuse, and then release him. Worst case of $4m wasted a year for 2 seasons is frustrating but isn't crippling. The waste of a spot on the 25 man squad is more important IMO.
  18. A 3 year deal is too long IMO, but maybe there are opt/buy outs (he may want one after year 1, we'd want one after year 2)
  19. If this is confirmed, then hopefully it means bye bye Smoak. Morales, Bautista and Pearce rotating at 1B, DH, OF, with Pearce mainly 1B, Morales mainly DH and Jose mainly OF.
  20. They excluded Gurriel, but say that if they'd ranked him, he would probably be top 5.
  21. 1. RHP Sean Reid-Foley 2. OF Anthony Alford 3. OF Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. 4. RHP Conner Greene 5. RHP Jonathan Harris 6. SS Richard Urena 7. RHP T.J. Zeuch 8. 1B Rowdy Tellez 9. C Max Pentecost 10. SS Bo Bichette
  22. And backup catcher, though I wonder if they're going to give A.J. Jimenez the role with the option of replacing him with a waiver claim later in the season if he doesn't cut it.
  23. According to Ken Rosenthal the Cards made an offer to Fowler yesterday. Considering he hasn't accepted it yet, it's fair to assume it's at best a similar AAV to what the Jays offered.
