    It's maybe a bit too early for either of them, but there is Gurriel as well. But either has a good season and yes, we could potentially see September call ups. They both need to succeed in a full season at AAA first though before we can count on them IMO.

    We've still got Barney and for the moment Goins for SS. I do agree we'd be in trouble if Tulo missed >50 games though, he's such a key player.

    Can't expect the Jays to wait for EE to see if he can get more money or not, what if he did in a month and Pearce et al have signed elsewhere? He might get 4/80 elsewhere, but looks like he won't get significantly more now. So in hindsight he'd prob have preferred to play here for that money, but that's the chance he took.

    Unfortunately, the Mets will want prospects for Granderson, if the Mets simply wanted to save cash, it'd make more sense to trade Bruce who isn't as good but is only earning $2m less.

    I doubt we'd get anything significant in a trade, but he'd be a cheap pickup on waivers for a team looking for a late game defensive sub and to cover 2B/SS. The Rays for example.

    Isn't Goins out of options? He's not going to make the 25 if everyone is fit to start the season (assuming we sign at least 1 more player i.e. an OF) and someone would likely claim him off waivers to be a defensive utility guy at a low cost.

    At the end of the 2017 season is when the backloaded part of Mike Trout's contract kicks in ($33m per year). If the Angels miss the playoffs again in 2017, I could see a scenario where they trade Trout for a king's ransom, and then try to sign Otani to offset a backlash from the fans.

    Perhaps a separate agreement can be made with Japan to exclude their players from the normal international rules? If Otani comes close to repeating this season's stats then he would eclipse the hype of the Dice-K signing.

    I don't think they will add 2 OF unless someone is moved as part of a trade, or the 2nd is on a minor league deal. While we might get a utility type player, Barney can also play LF. Perhaps they'll try Goins or Travis in the OF, or perhaps Gourriel will make the team a bit later in the season. Lots of options - but while I think most of us would still want to see upgrades at 1B, LF and RF, and surely in an ideal world, the FO does too, that doesn't mean it's going to happen.

    This is what I love about this board, the varied opinions people can have. And we haven't had anyone insulting anyone else for seeing things differently so far in this debate! Some look at Revere and see a fast, cheap, bounce back candidate who hits lots of singles to get on base where he can use his speed. Others see a zero power, replacement level player, who doesn't walk. He's been both at times in his career so far! As we already have Carrera, Upton and Pillar, I can see us only signing/trading for one more OF. So I'd be a bit disappointed if that OF was Revere.

    Oh yeah I agree with that, but that's one of the reasons why sport is exciting. Teams that think they're going to be good can be awful, and vice versa. I'd be relatively happy with the offseason so far if I was an Astros fan.

    I don't know about that, plenty here were advocating for both Beltran and Reddick. I like the signings for them, they have a very good team, could do with another starter but they've still got the assets to trade for one if they want to. They've got a great chance of at least a wildcard.

    Jeff Manship on Cleveland's non tendered list. Had a good 2015 but was only so so last year. He'd be cheap, and a low risk bounce back candidate. Also the front office will be familiar with him from Cleveland. Not particularly inspiring, but fits what the FO are looking for, without stretching the budget.

    Then let's just agree to disagree. FWIW I don't think any of the 3 I quoted were thread worthy. I find threads like that annoying, and they clutter up the baseball talk, but that's just my opinion. Plenty of off topic threads have lots of posts, but only the really interesting ones survive. You could post what you just ate for lunch as a new thread on the main forum and it'd get 50+ posts before being moved/locked down.

    He'd be massively pissed off if he had to resign with us at what he would see as a large discount. But TBH it was a joke, he would know deep down it would be his last chance at getting a decent contract next offseason, I doubt he'd be stupid enough to do anything to jeopardise his marketability, might even be willing to be a 1B/DH exclusively.

    Depends entirely on how Morales does this season. We know that if EE has a better year we'll have trolls posting all season about "cheap" Rogers and what a mistake it was, and they will have forgotten all about it by the time EE is a replacement level player on >$20m in 2020/21.

    Though if he did, we'd have a year of angry Jose trying to hit every single ball out of the stadium. Not sure that's a good thing to be honest!
