    I think the best read I get from this is that free-agency will be how we fill most of our needs, and would only consider trading Revere, Colabello, or maybe Sanchez this off-season. Maybe we could see one of Price, Greinke, or Zimmerman seriously pursued after all?

    This is fair, Pillar can't win for CF when KK is putting up outrageous numbers there.

    I think, pending any injuries, he could nail 130-160 innings before feeling fatigue, and then just chuck him into the bullpen the rest of the season. It's basically what Cleveland did with Carrasco in 2014.

    This. I think Osuna starts in our rotation next year, and, based on LaCava's words, he won't have an innings limit. I think that means 140-160 could be expected before he gets tired and goes into the bullpen. I think, unless Sanchez masters 2 other pitches this off-season, he'll be traded or starting in AA/AAA next season to attempt to fix him. Hendriks could end the year as a starter in Osuna's spot in the rotation, with Osuna taking his place in the bullpen.

    That's very interesting. Let's hope Osuna doesn't blow out his arm pitching 160 innings lol.

    I don't "want" to trade him, but I would be banking that the WAR provided by Carrasco would off-set what we'd lose with Travis/Pillar. Travis/Pillar project to provide 5.5 WAR next season while CC projects 5.1 WAR so it's pretty even. Maybe get Cleveland to throw in a low-level prospect and I'd do it. Goins could provide 1-2 WAR next season which, compared to Travis' projected 2.8, isn't a terrible loss.

    Since Tulo/EE/JB/JD are off-limits, and Shapiro wants to rebuild the farm/keep young pitching, that means our only trade assets are Pillar, Travis, Sanchez (periphals won't make him untouchable with Shapiro), Revere, Goins, Dickey and Colabello. Could a Pillar and Travis for Carrasco and Johnson work? Travis, in particular, has a lot of potential and maybe him or Kipnis could be moved to 3rd (JK projects to have -3 UZR next season at 2nd, not sure how Travis projects). Would that be enough to get it done or does Travis have less value than I think (2.3 WAR in 60 games is pretty great)?

    I love that they are considering Hendriks with Osuna/Sanchez as potential rotation options. I think it's a great idea to see what you have in him. Sanchez should be on the outside looking in for a rotation spot. I would hope that we bring in enough pitching to allow Sanchez to develop much more in AA/AAA as a starter. He needs more than 1 pitch to succeed as a starter long-term. I think if they get him to learn a change-up, throw his curve harder, and learn either a cutter or a slider, he'll have a suitable arsenal. Sanchez needs to develop control over at least pitches though before I'd consider him for the MLB rotation. Let's hope Shapiro feels the same way.

    True, they could do that, but regardless I think one of Carrasco/Salazar is traded this off-season, I just hope it's to us.

    It's absolutely putrid and resembles 11% of their payroll, and if the budget is closer to their average the past 10 years, then it could be closer to 15%. That's why I think taking that on could help us get Carrasco for less.

    McCowan also said that it would unacceptable if Rogers even "kept payroll the same", much less reduced it; so I don't think Rogers is puppeteering him lol. Bobcat said he said it would be merely adequate if the payroll went up by 5% and it should go up by 10-20% based on the revenue figures, after sharing, that he was told. He never provided those figures, so I can't agree to that fully, but it does prove Rogers isn't speaking through him.

    I think you underestimate the impact that can have on small market penny pinching teams. Johnson projects to have negative WAR by steamer next year at $9M, and to a team that would rather sit around a sub $80M payroll, that could be greatly tying their hands up. If you add in the controllable years of one of Hutch/Sanchez and perhaps Tellez, I think that would certainly be considered.

    You don't think taking on Chris Johnson's dead contract wouldn't lower Carrasco's value a lot? Maybe add Tellez.

    It would be weird for sure, but I think it would be a fair deal, especially since Antonetti would not want to disrespect Shapiro and vice versa. Cleveland has a need for controllable young players at DH/1st (with Santana coming off the books after 2016), OF (they were awful in DRS there), and 3rd. Their payroll was also their highest since 2001, so cutting or spreading their resources better may be their goal. I think Pillar, Colabello, and Urena (switch him to 3rd) for Carrasco and Johnson ($17.5M of dead money over 2 seasons), could actually get it done.

    Hopefully Shapiro can figure out a way to get it in by 2017.

    I think it depends on the team need. Cleveland, for instance, has a strong need for DRS in the outfield, so Pillar would carry more value to them than other teams. I just read an interesting article on jaysjournal about potential trade proposals to acquire Carrasco/Salazar, and, although they undervalued them, they made an interesting point about us taking on the $17.5M contract of Chris Johnson as well, to lower the cost of the deal. I think taking on Johnson's 2-yr deal which projects to be $9M/yr of dead money could actually help us land Carrasco for cheaper.

    Lind also had a string of mediocre seasons before his 2014 to really lower his value, and Belo's splits are pretty even. I'd say they are very close to the same value at these points in time. You could be correct though!

    Like you mentioned, Cola said, at one point last month, that after the season he's going to look at all of his stats and reflect/train on how to improve during the off-season. Maybe he figures out a way to cut the K-rate to under 20%? If he can do that, I'm confident he'll be productive for us.

    I think he has enough value to net 1 low level high ceiling prospect or a decent MLB reliever, but that's about it imo. Pillar has the real value.

    I think he's going to surprise people and potentially generate a similar BABIP/AVG. He seems to have great hitting instincts and, I could be wrong, but he seemed to spray a ton of line-drives all around the field, this year, to the point where it could be a repeatable skill.

    I could see Shapiro trade Revere just for prospects but definitely not Pillar. If Pillar is traded it will be as part of a package to land a cheap and controllable elite pitcher like Carrasco/Salazar/Martinez/Quintana/etc.

    Worse case a Morneau/Cola combo is definitely an upgrade. That said Cola/Smoak combined to hit around .275 with 33HR, so that would be tough for Morneau to cover alone.

    Knowing Shapiro, I'm guessing he wants to keep those picks, so he probably only goes after pitchers who were traded this year. This is the group of Price, Cueto, Kazmir, Leake, Latos, etc. Of that group I like Kaz and Latos the best since they're likely the most valuable with the contracts/production they'd demand.
