  1. Well in Romero's case, he didn't have a history of dominance in his minors career, with terrible control problems, and his 2011 was very much a case BABIP luck. Stroman has a history of dominance throughout his minors career with elite K/BB rates and great FIPs, the risk of it disappearing in his prime years in the majors is not particularly high. Matt Moore, on the other hand, was a significant drop off from elite level potential, but that exception shouldn't deter a Stroman signing imo.
  2. I hope this doesn't happen. Chris Davis would get an ugly contract and he could easily become a Howard-esque negative asset albatross, as early as next year.
  3. What the f*** lol? Is this guy a legit reporter? Has he ever been right before?
  4. Or better yet, the kind of pitcher he can be. His entire minors career paints the picture of a 10K/9, 2.2BB/9, <3FIP potential. I think you do the extension this off-season for sure. I would imagine Atkins will have all his best development coaches explaining his thought process to Stroman/Sanchez/Osuna that pitching to contact is not a good philosophy.
  5. Very surprised. I can't see Shapiro/Atkins being comfortable with the package it would cost for Fernandez. It would probably be something like Osuna, Pompey, Travis, and Pillar.
  6. Didn't someone here report that? BTS maybe? I could be mistaken.
  7. Apparently. They followed up, reportedly, by asking for Stroman+, at which point AA hung up.
  8. I would, pending we didn't have to shell out more than a D level prospect. I would probably do Papelbon + salary relief for Matt Dean.
  9. Ok let's go for Shawn Kelley and Bastardo/Sipp please. I would also be interested on the market for Capps?
  10. I'm thinking Papelbon probably gets traded for a bucket of balls at this point. He can't have too much value with his contract and his well-known toxic personality.
  11. More than enough reasons not to even try. At this point, I'd rather Atkins bring in his development crew, implement all his strategies and mechanisms, and see if he can turn SRF and Greene into Salazar/Carrasco/Kluber types. It will be interesting to see what he does with Sanchez as well.
  12. Off-topic, but, I'm really interested to see what Atkins does with SRF now. He's the exact type of pitcher Atkins would make a development project for. A guy with nasty stuff that strikes out the world but can't control it yet.
  13. Yep. Why insult him by giving him a 5 year 150M offer, there's no point. It's way too risky to give a 30 year old fastball pitcher 7 years and 200+M.
  14. I would for the 1st 4 months to get his innings up as a starter for 2017, before calling him back up in August to join the BP for the fall push. I don't see why you don't if you can sign enough relief help this off-season.
  15. s***, I wonder what that will cost in prospects.
  16. Same. It doesn't really fit Shapiro/Atkins' mo. This is why we should sign 2 of Kelley/Lowe/Bastardo/Sipp and trade Revere for RP. Then we could try and sign a few cheap failed starters as reclamation projects for the BP. At that point, maybe we can put Osuna in AAA to stretch out, then call him back up to be in the BP late in 2016.
  17. I would imagine they bought forward contracts early this year when our dollar started dropping like a rock so that we hedged the discrepancies pretty well. I wouldn't be surprised if payroll actually did go up a lot but Shapiro/La Cava/Atkins are planning on trying to work out extensions with JD, Stroman, Edwin, and JB this off-season which could eat up a lot of the increased budget.
  18. Glad to see a new thread for this. It sucks discussing everything and their Grandpa in the Off-season/Around Baseball threads..
  19. Mariners, Padres, and Indians will probably be mobbed for starters. I can't see Cleveland getting offers that interest them for Carrasco or Salazar, but Bauer could be moved?
  20. I've never liked that philosophy. Let's not spend in prospects in the off-season while it's cheaper and time is on our side, instead let's spend mid-season when it's a sellers market. If we're going to pull off a trade I'd rather not do it when the cost will be way higher at the trade-deadline. Knowing Shapiro and Atkins, I don't think they would want to be "buyers" at the deadline, given the state of our farm currently.
  21. Yep and he's controllable. $/WAR is around 9M now, so Revere's value would be around 17-18M in 2016 if he were to net 2 WAR as usual. AJ Prenner seems to value traditional stats more than advanced stats, based on his moves, so that I could see it happen. Maybe you trade Revere and Urena and it gets done.
  22. He'll reply with, "who cares about that fancy pants geeky mumbojumbo, we want WINS in the Majors, all of this is just more strategies to get cheaper and use the no-name prospects, instead of spending money, like AA would have done"
  23. There's even more detail on the mechanisms in here. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/why-cleveland-has-the-best-%E2%80%93-and-most-futuristic-%E2%80%93-rotation-in-baseball-184723253.html
