As far as I am concerned, I am not sure which Alex we are going to get this off-season. There's the good-Alex we saw at the trade deadline. It's like the all-in moves Beane made last year except not only did the team not implode but they went the other way. Incredible. Hopefully our post-season results will also be different than Beane's.
Then there is the bad-Alex. He basically did nothing about the #1, on-the-record, off-season objective - Pitching. Still remember the press conference right after last season, how he was "energized" and "excited" going into the off-season. And then sitting thru it, the anguish for the first half of the season with BP blowing games, SP seemingly going less than 6 every night...
So going into this off-season, the biggest question mark in my mind is pitching. And this year, it's both SP and bullpen. Price, Papa B, Estrada and maybe throw Dickey and Hutch in there - that's basically our rotation. With the BP, there's Lowe, Hawkins, what to do with Sanchez, Osuna, etc. I for one am not taking for granted that we are going to get the good-Alex this off-season.
Everything else like SS/2B or outfield are depth "problems" - something we haven't had to deal with in a long time and are a good problem to have
