  1. Decimated bullpen? What decimated bullpen? The Rays never have a decimated bullpen.
  2. You want to compare the Rays injuries vs the Jays injuries this season? The fact that these teams' records and run differentials is close is indicative of just how remarkably deep and resourceful the Rays are. If they can hang around while badly wounded, which they did, how much better will they be when they are healthy? Well, we're about to find out.
  3. We beat Baltimore because we caught their pitching in a bad state. We beat a Yankee and Red Sox team on a downswing, we've also swept an awful Pittsburgh team, barely, took two of three against a bad Cubs team, barely, and took two of three from a not very good Texas squad (the one game we lost is the one game we actually faced a quality pitcher). Even forgetting the Angels sweep, the bottom line is we've been winning games, great, mostly games we should win, that's what you have to do, but Tampa is a different animal. In the coming series we will face Jeffrey Springs, Drew Rasmussen, and likely Shane McClanahan. They'll probably manage to poop out a couple of other competitive pitching games because that's what they do. Especially against us. We are in trouble in this series, not just because, but because Tampa is a tough freaking matchup.
  4. With Tampa getting healthy, these nine games coming up against them are going to be bad, bad, bad. I think they win four of the five in this series. I wouldn't be shocked to see them win all five. It's not pessimism, it's realism.
  5. With the idiotic new rules they're putting in next year, base stealing is going to be premium.
  6. Vlad is who he is. MVP talent with the approach of a .200 hitter
  7. Great game by Alek, happy for the win. Biggio not playing is a crime though. Schneider loves JBJ and Tapia way too much. Our offense really wasn't that good tonight.
  8. Is there any "superstar" player that elicits less confidence than Vladdy?
  9. Mitch White had one job: Don't be absolutely terrible. Mediocre? Fine. Bad? Good enough. Just not an absolute steaming pile of s***. Alas, 'twas too much to ask.
  10. Berrios just surviving out there with his stuff today. If he could find a way to give us six more outs we're in good shape. Might only get us one more inning though
  11. Richards looked solid the first two innings, reasonable pitch count, so naturally let's f***ing bring in Kikuchi.
  12. Time for the inspirational comeback that will be the turning point that guides this team to a World Series victory.
  13. IF WAR included a stupid factor, by how much lower would some of the Blue Jays' value be?
  14. Why isn't conceding a game a thing in baseball? Is it really better to waste relievers and potentially get position players hurt in a blowout than just to offer up a handshake and say see you tomorrow? Is there any additional punishment that baseball would give out for something like that? You may be potentially hurting your ability to win future games by selling out to a game that there's nothing left to play for.
  15. I agree with Buck, from the beginning I hate the way that rule is being applied. I think there should be some allowance for a natural motion on the pop-up so long as there is no effort made to advance to the next base. Sort of how you're allowed to run past first base and as long as you don't make any motion towards second you just go back and step on the bag.
  16. Seattle is kind of the opposite, they have a few tough teams coming up but then down the stretch it's a joke of a schedule because it's a bunch of AL West teams not named Houston. I think they're guaranteed a wild card spot. Tampa will get one because it's Tampa. Probably comes down to us and the Orioles. I can't f***ing believe that's a thing but we are the better team.
  17. Social media, fans chatting at the ballpark, media perception. He's more low-key than Manoah, which I think contributes, and of course the ever important win/loss record🙄
  18. A great base stealer can absolutely steal you games in October when runs are truly at a premium. Ideally, they wouldn't be black holes offensively because it's tough to justify a roster spot for strictly a base runner, but on the other hand they can also be the difference between winning and losing playoff games and beggars can't be choosers. This is a team that doesn't have the greatest approach against pitchers that execute well. They don't grind out runs very well at all. So for us, it might be especially important. On a side note, the disrespect that Gausman is getting is becoming rather annoying. Both within the fanbase and clearly the idiots working the game yesterday and I think in general, people really don't understand just how good this dude has been. He's literally one of the best pitchers in the game. He's a true ace and most certainly the ace of this team. It's not even particularly close between him and Manoah, and I love Manoah, but come on.
  19. It's an upgrade. Not much of one, but a poor offensive player is still better than a complete black hole. Maybe lose a bit defensively, but not much. Given the choice, I'd have made the same one.
  20. Is there nobody anywhere? AA? A? Independent baseball? Anybody but this guy. I might even take a Thornton start.
  21. I see it the same way as a throw to second base on an attempted steal. That throw always goes left to right and the player covering second can always jump into the base path to collect the ball and just drop to their knees and get an out almost every time, but you can't do that. So they catch the ball out in front of the bag and then they tag behind them. If they had done this here, Merrifield would have been out.
  22. It's one of those cases of mono that moves to the shoulder and then the lat. Eventually it'll probably move to the groin and/or hip. Probably have to wait until next year to know for sure.
  23. So Schneider doesn't suddenly make our s*** bullpen better?
  24. If it's runner on second and one out, I'm okay with it, not on first. Didn't like the move regardless of Zimmer's dumb ass.
  25. Does anybody know if Berrios was dating Miss USA and had a messy break up? I'm otherwise befuddled as to what's happened to him.
