  1. I think it's a tecnicality based on the way it's structured. Ex 1 - A two year deal with a player option for year 3 Ex 2 - A three year deal with an optout after year 2. In Example 1, after the first two years, if he does nothing/fills out no paperwork, he's a FA for year three. In Example 2, after the first two years, if he does nothing/fills out no paperwork, he's under contract for year three. They are exactly the same thing, but differs in the paperwork part. Maybe there's a rule that player options can only be one year, so they get around using optouts? I don't know the CBA that well
  2. LAD get Scott Kazmir for 3 years, will update $ when released. Felt this deserved thread rather than sticking in Around Baseball thread, like the Chapman deal $48 million (16 mill average per) Optout after year 1
  3. Chapman for two accounting interns, a marketing intern, a mailroom attendant and a rookie secretary
  4. How long is the Rule 5 Draft? I know coverage starts at 10am on mlb.com. If I decided to watch it, how long will it last? If it's short, I will, if it's 2+ hours, that's a different story, got some christmas presents to buy
  5. Russell can't play all 162, so he needs some days off. Making those days off be Dickey days just makes perfect sense. If Dickey throws 32 games, let Thole catch 25 of them, let Russ catch one every once in a while, so he stays on top of it and come playoff time, we don't need to risk throwing out Thole in a game of that magnitude.
  6. It's 130 before adding in the minimum salary guys, so it's likely around the 135 you have
  7. What surprises me about the signing is that Happ came back. I always thought Happ was not pleased with being sent to AAA back at the beginning of 2014 and had a bit of resentment, that was partially why they were willing to trade him, a starter, for Saunders. Guess that was all in my head. He must have really enjoyed it here, since he was willing to come back, even after being dealt less than a year ago. I'm content with Stroman-Estrada-Dickey-Happ-Chavez (6 Hutchinson). Not ecstatic, not hugely disappointed. So now just to fill the bullpen. Osuna-Cecil-Sanchez-Loup-________-________-__________ (Depth: Shultz,Tepara,Delabar). Do we have enough left in the budget for Lowe to come back? Maybe a Rule 5 pickup or two
  8. So the As will now have a 3B-SS or 2B-Ss combo of Lowrie and Lawrie
  9. Matt Hague to Korea. Didn't Shapiro say we needed depth. Let's send our depth away. I will never forget that pinch hit double that was a couple inches from a home run to tie. Instead, we lost with Smoak's grounder next at bat
  10. While this is true, I could see LaCava operating on the "a bird in hand is worth two in the bush" mentality. He had the offer of Chavez for Hendriks in hand. Sure, there were similar FAs on the market, but there's no guarantee you get them if they choose to go to another team. So he guaranteed himself a starter now, rather than taking the chance of striking out on similar ones and then Chavez being gone. And if he can another starter, that's great, we can either flip Chavez again (probably not ideal for a new GM, may deter FAs from signing if you can get flipped so soon after signing) or have competition for job #5 and have Chavez go to the bullpen
  11. I like this trade for one reason. As great as Hendriks was as a reliever, it is irrelevant, so long as Gibbons is the manager and doesn't use him in important roles. It's like having Sidney Crosby on your team and giving him 4th line minutes. Given that I fully expected Hendricks to be used in the same role as last year (undeservedly), I'm basing my opinion on that. But Chavez provides more use to us being used properly than Hendriks does being used improperly. If Hendriks is used properly, then maybe it's a different story. So while talent-wise it may be a loss for us, performance-wise it is a win, under the assumption that Henricks would otherwise still be in middle relief
  12. Ideally, I'd like someone established, but if the alternative is to go with Hutchinson as our 5th starter, then yes I'm willing to take the gamble. I loved what Revere offered us, but at a projected 6.7 million, he might be too expensive for our budget.
  13. Any Lind-Estrada type pitchers available? Not saying I'm expecting 2015 Estrada like performance, but could be a cheap way to find a 5th fringe starter like when we acquired Estrada or previously with Villaneueva that we can plug in for a year or two. Giving up Revere
  14. Anthopolous must own the patent for contracts with patents. Has exclusive rights to signing contracts with options.
  15. I would say the benefit is Games 1 and 2. If you can ride into a 2-0 lead from HFA, you have momentum running into the 3 away games, and it puts extra pressure on the other team to win, raising your odds of taking a game or two on the road
  16. He now has to indicate which way he pitches before the batter comes to the plate because of this
  17. iPad Guy obviously can control Goins brain using his ipad. Now we know why they keep showing him
  18. Yes, I like the bombs, but we led the league in walks because of our patience. Many of those comebacks came from taking a few pitches, waiting for their pitch and hitting it out. Our patience alot of times all year translated to home runs because we got into favourable counts. We did that well earlier today. But Martin's at bat really got me. He just swung and swung. Take a couple pitches then take a HR cut, don't just go up and take 3 cuts.
  19. Great play by a fan if that's what happened, home field advantage right there, but I would hope Goins could recognize JB's voice (but it was loud). Reminds me of that A-Rod/ Howie Clark pop up a few years ago
  20. I hate how every time we lose a lead, it feels like every hitter tries for a home run swing. Yes, tying it in one swing is great, but KC proves again and again how effective small ball is. Just get on base, it causes pressure, forces the stretch, causes errors (Game 5 Texas showed that, one error led to another and another) Apart from Revere and Colabello, it feels like everyone else just goes for the HR swing when we're down now (Goins too, but he's in such a slump, I'm not expecting much, great 2B today though.) A bunch of 3-4 pitch strikeouts late in the game all with home run cuts
  21. Game 1 Estrada Game 2 Price Game 3 Dickey Game 4 Stroman Game 5 Price (if he pitches well in Game 2, otherwise Estrada) Game 6 Estrada (or Dickey+Price) Game 7 Stroman
  22. Agreed it's nobody's business. Bt they probably keep him on the roster, even if he's still expected to miss games 1 and 2, maybe even 3,4
  23. The one thing I don't like about Bautista is his tendency to argue with the umpires, everything else he's great. I'm still undecided about what to do with him next year. His arm is still great, but his fielding has dipped. I kind of want to take him out of RF, but I don't really see how we can. Prior to this season, I thought about having him go to third and LAwrie to second, but obviously with Donaldson that is not even a consideration. The other option is for him to be 1B, with Edwin at DH, but then we lose Colabello's spot if his form continues
  24. I would go for a 2+1 deal ( 10 ,10 ,10 if option is team option or 8,9,10 if option is player option - make him give up some $ for the optout)
