  1. but do Morales + Pearce + Smoak put up more WAR than Edwin?
  2. Both sides apparently misread the market ... (unless Edwin winds up with a huge contract somewhere.) So I do fault Edwin's agent. If Edwin was basically following the advice of his agent, then he probably isn't too pleased with his representation right now.
  3. It's more just stating reality or an observation than it is a criticism. But isn't that a big part of the GM's/FO's job? ... assessing the market fairly accurately so that you sign your guys on the best terms (for the team)? I don't have enough info to say Edwin "decided to play games." He received the Jays offer at the start of his free agency when he believed the world was his oyster and can't fault him for taking some time to see what else was out there.
  4. But the way it has played out, Shatkins ... with patience ... likely could've signed Edwin for less than that. So they misread the market.
  5. understandable that despite her "fame" she likes her privacy.
  6. She certainly doesn't "chirp" players.
  7. it was an exciting play no doubt, but ... the runner was Prince Fielder haha.
  8. in the team-polled MVP voting last season, Donaldson received only 2 measly votes ... compared to Edwin's 41. so, yeah, maybe you're on to something about JD?
  9. old news but belongs here haha http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-notebook-atkins-endorses-gibbons-elite-manager/
  10. (the freak knee injury aside) who would've thought that Saunders wouldn't be a solid upgrade over Melky both on the basepaths and shagging flies in LF?
  11. Bautista being Bautista, a man of great pride .... if he ends up accepting a disappointing (for him) deal from another team ... and he feels like he was "unappreciated" or "disrespected" (haha) by Shapiro as a Blue Jays icon ... then maybe in Toronto we get another Davey Keon vs the Maple Leafs part deux with Jose not interested in returning to the Rogers Centre in retirement as long as Shapiro is at the helm? lol
  12. Edwin winning the team-polled MVP award with 90% of the vote might suggest he's also a popular and respected hombre in the clubhouse.
  13. yes, of course. i'm asking to look inside your crystal ball.
  14. do you think the Jays will pick up Smoaky's $6M option for 2019?
  15. Bruce-Smoak-Morales-Upton: the new Faces of the Franchise
  16. and Donaldson & Tulo like throwing to the big target at 1b ... ? (in the 9th inning) haha
  17. What do you think are the chances that Smoak is not on the Jays 25-man opening day roster? (DL aside) ... 3-5%?
  18. A FA who signs a major league contract has an automatic "no trade" right thru June 15th. The player can waive this right, but if he does he can be traded only for cash and/or player contracts with a max aggregate value of $50,000.
  19. ... without the player's consent. does Pearce or Morales want to play for Toronto that badly? or would they be content for many teams just to pick up their new contract? (yeah, it wouldn't look good on the Jays to sign a guy and deal him, but it's not impossible.)
  20. My seats are right behind the "In The Action" seats and I frequently get offered those seats at cost from a few folks in front of me because they tell me that they're not that easy to resell for non-sellout games . . . and these are the good times!
  21. These are the good times with Blue Jays fever currently at a 20+ yrs high. Maybe it could come crashing down fairly quickly if there's an exodus of stars and mediocrity in the standings? So perhaps the new regime shouldn't get too greedy by taking too much for granted (as they inherited the sell out crowds.) It's sad watching a game on TV played in Yankees stadium and those prime ridiculously price lower level infield seats are often more than half empty.
  22. I think that would anger a lot of long time STHs with seats there (including me.)
  23. Grass! Fewer total seats in the stadium. (Rogers Centre has the 2nd largest seating capacity in the A.L.) I'd love to see the overall foul territory shrunk (which I think is the 2nd largest in the A.L. after Oakland) by shifting the 100 level seats in closer to the diamond (rather than by just adding, say, more TD "In The Action" rows) ... don't know how possible this is with the dugout locations fixed etc., but would make it more intimate by bringing spectators closer to the play.
  24. will be his 10th season as a major league manager.
