  1. Can't I just be a baseball fan?
  2. I was at the Twins/Rays game today. Notes includes: - Blake Snell looked really good. Fastball was 94-97. - Park finally stopped striking out long enough to hit a grand slam. - Arcia looked over matched by good fastballs. - Odorizzi struggled with his command. Nothing exciting really. Took my 5 year old though and he loved it. He even took over score keeping in the 5th inning...it was pretty cool to see him so into the game...
  3. You guys are harsh. Perhaps career year from someone who's not establish would be a better description. How do you measure it? WAR Pompey or whoever win the 5th spot in the rotation looks like a good choice to me
  4. D He be leg kickin' for days yo
  5. If you choose NY - call and see if you can get tickets for the stadium tour... Personally, I've neen to NYC twice and I wouldn't go back....my next city trip will be to Washington....that said, your trip seems to be all about the baseball...Yankee Stadium is pretty sweet, but isn't the atmosphere s*** now as fans aren't filling it because Jeter is gone and they don't know the players names anymore? Last year there were only Jays fans in the seats after the 7th inning...
  6. I get what you're saying, but I think you underestimate the value Chavez provides as SP'ing depth.....God knows we need solid SP'ing depth to win.
  7. It was hard to watch...
  8. I think you underestimate how s***** Jeff Blair is. Kevin Barker may also still be on the radio...
  9. When he's catching Dickey - it's supposed to be Martin's day off...if you keep pinch hitting for him in the 6th or 7th....Martin doesn't get the rest he needs.
  10. Take your hacks in the cage. Spring training games should used to work on your approach...work on doing what you do best.
  11. It doesn't work that way sir. It's been well documented.
  12. I'm calling Shatkins insane or wanting Bruce - aren't the rest of you?
  13. 2 year $15M. Get it done
  14. It would be amazing to know how many players are stuck in 1993...
  15. First - I have no idea why you are so convinced Brown is broken and needs to be fixed by a hitting coach - but Bruce isn't after posting a wRC+ under 90 in his last 1000+ PA's. They both suck. My point continues to be the marginally higher chance that Bruce bounces back is not worth giving up assets and/or spending what little budget we have remaining....There is/was massive risk in taking on Bruce (unless the Reds were going to cover the $9M difference in salary, which is unlikely and the Jays only gave up Saunders) for the outside chance he rebounds to a the point where he's significantly better than what Saunders/Pompey could get you.
  16. Correct - one costs you $13.5M, the other does - which has been a very important part of my debate which you seem to be ignoring...
  17. Fair enough - hard to disagree. I just don't think the probability he returns to a 3+ WAR player is worth giving up our remaining budget and/or prospects (although those are both assumptions). Ryan Howard has 20 career WAR - but at some point, you just accept the fact that the good things you did 3-5 years ago is simply irrelevant. Bruce may not be at that point...but he's right on the edge.
  18. How did Bruce look in 2014? unlucky? or like s***...just like he did last year. I have no idea why you think he doesn't need to be fixed after 1000+ PA's of sub 90 wRC+ production. He's as broken as Brown is. That said, I agree that there's a better chance Bruce bounces back (simply due to the longer track record).......however, I think it's still highly unlikely.....I think it's even more unlikely he bounces back to the point where he's significantly better than 600 PA's of Pompey and thus I STRONGLY disagree with spending our remaining budget on this glimmer of hope that Bruce returns to a 3+ WAR player and is a big upgrade over Pompey/Saunders.
  19. I think so - but Machado, Davis and the Showalter effect should keep them out of the basement.
  20. Bruce has a better track record - but the last time either player was good - Brown was the better hitter... Let's be honest - both players probably suck.........but only one comes with a $13.5M price tag.
  21. Christ - why didn't we just trade for Coghlan? only owed $4.8M this year (FA next year) and has been 2.4 - 3.3 WAR the past 2 years. We could have offered him a QO after the year and watched the O's sign him for no reason and give us their draft pick.
  22. Same could/would be said about Jay Bruce...who we'd owe $13.5M. That said - both Brown and Bruce played RF....is there a chance their defense improves (to a reasonable level) if they spend most their time in LF? I guess the only way it would is if it's their arm that's the issue....something tells me Brown has a cannon...no idea about Bruce.
  23. I'd sign him up on a minor league deal / invite too!
  24. Dom Brown - meet Tewks...he'll be working with you for the next 2 months to resurrect your career.
  25. There - now we don't need to trade for Jay Bruce and pay him $13.5M... I don't mind this as a depth move....we need OF depth.
