  1. So much for Grandy wanting to play for a contender to try and get a ring while wrapping up a very good career...Perhaps a true indication as to where the market is at. Kendrick's signing 2 yr $7M, Grandy 1 yr $5M. The old guys simply aren't going to get paid anymore.
  2. wRC+ of 123 vs. RHP last year. .310/.376/.448 (better than Granderson the past 2 years FWIW). He just needs to correct that defense. I kind of thing we're done. Granderson and Zeke will platoon with Pearce and Teoscar. I mean ideally we'd get another starting OFer and let Grandy platoon with Teoscar (and Teoscar could spell all OF positions) - but we still have Zeke and Pearce and they don't seem to be going anywhere. We're treading water folks - praying for all the stars to align.
  3. In a 1 game playoff...
  4. You asked Todd - and Shatkin's listened. Bring on Granderson!
  5. WTF is happening?
  6. You don't have to beat the NYY and BOS to make the playoffs. IF Sanchez is back healthy, the rotation should be a strength again (although we could stand to improve our depth).
  7. I agree. I used to be in the camp of "the onus is on the fan - they should be paying attention when they're at a baseball game". Now I have 3 young boys. I love taking them and they LOVE going to baseball games, but FFS, it's now nearly impossible to be paying at attention at all times. Luckily for me, now that I'm buying 4-5 tickets a game, I can't afford to sit in the danger zone anyway.
  8. I don't know how appropriate it is to call the Astros's "idiots" right now.
  9. Texas and Oakland are going to kick ass this year eh? Fascinating stuff as always.
  10. + McHugh!
  11. How the F do they get Cole without giving up Tucker, Whitley, Marte or Fisher?
  12. Key22 is from Hong Kong (errrr - so his profile says). Jim's from another planet too I think.
  13. You have no f***ing idea what his trade value is. Shut it down man.
  14. Driveline is likely one of the major reasons that Bauer is actually good now.
  15. Good call on releasing Smoak.
  16. LMO Let's move on.
  17. Let's not group Mark Trumbo in with JD Martinez or Chris Davis please. His career best was a 2.4 WAR season back in 2012. He belongs in the Khris Davis category. Outside of an injury ridden 2016, J.D. Martinez has been posting 4-5 WAR seasons with a wRC+ of about 145 since he reinvented his swing. Every analytics department in baseball would drool over that. The man is an elite hitter. The question is - how will he age and how much risk is there? It's funny you mention Chris Davis, as he might be the reason for teams to pause. He put up 2 MASSIVE offensive seasons in 2013 and 2015 - averaging about 6.5 WAR and a wRC+ of 160. The issue with him is he was utter s*** in 2014 and has since gone from being one of the best offensive players in baseball to useless in a hurry. Is JD Martinez going to be Nelson Cruz? or will he be Chris Davis? Time will tell.
  18. Can we go trade for Brandon Nimmo now please? Lefty bat who can play all 3 OF positions. He'd be an ideal fit as out 4th OFer - someone who could platoon with Teoscar. The Mets once again have a log jam in the OF, so we might get him at a reasonable cost.
  19. His K% in AAA for the Astros was only 20.7% last year and was in the high teens in AA/AAA in 2016. He also walked a lot more in Houston that he did with us. His K% spiked in Buffalo and with the Jays last year, but hopefully that's a SSS.
  20. Don't forget McHugh....who's coming off 3 straight 3+ WAR seasons before injuries caught up to him last year. Charlie Morton was on pace for a 4.5 WAR season (over 200 inning last year). That staff is f***ing insane.
  21. Are we starting an era of super teams in MLB? Astros, Dodgers, Yanks, Washington
  22. Don't forget to add in Teoscar's value in there. Even with a wRC+ of 95-100, he could put up 2.5 WAR season based on BsR + Def.
  23. I guess that's fair. My rebuttal would be he's a better asset for us. If he returns to his 3+ WAR form, he'll be a pretty valuable piece either way - and someone has to pitch for us in 2019 + 2020. Also, Lynn + Teaoscar is probably >> than Grandy + Dickey in 2018, plus it gives us the opportunity to see if Teaoscar is going to be an everyday player that could help the team in 2020-2022.
  24. I agree and while I love the idea of trading for Yelich - while also thinking Grandy would be a solid fit - I can't see us doing both. How worried are we that Happ and Estrada leave after this season? If our 5th starter signing is another stop gap, we could be looking at a rotation with only Stro + Sanchez, with youngsters Borucki, SRF, etc. hopefully knocking at the door. Giving a starting OF position to Teoscar (or Alford really) and using the extra cash to lock up someone like Lynn to a 3 year deal would provide more stability moving forward.
