  1. Someone like Adam Lind is an ideal fit for DH IMO. He's a platoon bat who's thrives vs. RHP. That gives you flexibility platoon him and rotate your top regular players through the DH vs. LHP. He's also serviceable enough to play 1st to give your starter a day off and can come off the bench and provide some power late in games (on days he doesn't start). I'm not a huge fan of the full time DH.
  2. Again, Benoit, Grilli and Storen had multiple and recent 1+ WAR seasons when they came to the Jays (Liriano had multiple, recent 3+ WAR seasons). Alburquerque's only ever had 1 and it was way back in 2011. Even while throwing hard and striking guys out, he was a 0.1 - 0.3 WAR pitcher between 2013 and 2015. He falls into the Leone, Gavin Floyd, Franklin Morales category, with a massive probability of being released in Spring Training. He's an arm and sometimes you find lightning in a bottle (ala Leone).
  3. Why can't he do both? Implement changes to improve the pace of the game and reduce the total game time, while also finding ways to market the stars better. There isn't an "easy" button he can just push to fix everything. It's going to be a cumulative effect. I also wonder if the understanding of concussions is going to help push more and more kids towards baseball (and probably basketball) vs. football.
  4. Benoit was 1 year removed from back to back 1.3 + 1.4 WAR seasons. Alburquerque hasn't really been good since his rookie year in 2011 guys. He ate some innings between 2013 and 2015. But he throws hard and misses bats. There's a very outside chance he's this year's Dom Leone.
  5. I thought there were studies suggesting fewer injuries the faster pitchers worked (although typing that - it sounds really arbitrary).
  6. I don't buy that. I LOVE baseball. I'm old and still play competitive hardball 2-3 times a week, I coach 2 of my son's teams and volunteer on the executive of minor baseball. I would love to see improvements to the pace of play. There's enough strategy and drama in a 2 1/2 - 3 hour game. There's very little added to the experience when you drag it out to 4 hours in the playoffs. As for Manfred - I really like the new takeout slide rules.
  7. Reports say the Marlins want Acuna for Yelich.
  8. That's how you troll Todd folks. That's how it's done. Could you imagine if the Blue Jays 103rd ranked prospect broke out and carried the team to the playoffs?
  9. I don't think anyone should be predicting how good or bad the Jays bullpen will be this year. I think overall, we have Osuna and then a bunch of guys with arms and options. Leone, Biagini, Tepera, Loup, Mayza, Barnes, Ramirez, Dermody. It's all a crap shoot. We are hoping that 2 or 3 of them perform like Leone and Tepera (pre overuse). If they do - we'll have an average/decent pen. If not, it will blow. Part of me wants to say it would be nice to have another proven, reliable guy (like Joe Smith) - but that was JP Howell last year and he was hot garbage.
  10. Olerud363 - you're trying to talk sense into Todd and Jim. You'd probably have more success trying to solve who the Zodiak killer is.
  11. Wife phoned and only 15,000 tickets sold. Spread over the field and the 100 level - that actually shouldn't be too bad really.
  12. Is anyone going to Winterfest on Saturday? I just got tickets and the wife and I are going to bring our 5 + 7 year olds down. It looks very kid oriented. I see tickets are sold out, but does anyone know how many tickets they did sell? I'm preparing myself for a zoo of people and long lines.
  13. This is the 12th unnecessary response guys. Get the key out.
  14. Where is Grant btw? and why is nobody thanking the f*** out of my Moana reference? Don't you guys have kids FFS?
  15. I watch a lot of Sunday night baseball and thus believe Yadi, Shapeshifter, Demigod of Catchers, Hero of Men - and Women is the best in the league (and of all-time).
  16. There's a decent chance the same thing happens to Starlin again this year.... I kind of hate Starlin - please stop suggesting the Jays should trade for him guys.
  17. At least we're escaping a time when players got paid more because they played on winning teams and thus we're "winners"
  18. So was he stressed because his wife found out he was banging Jackie Redmond? or did Jackie Redmond help him relax? In all seriousness though, this probably explains why he was willing to sign the contract extension.
  19. How great would it be to see use end up with a Grandel/Barnes situation this year? Martin/Jansen or Martin/McGuire for 2018 + 2019.......Jansen/McGuire in 2020+
  20. You gotta look past average on these parts sir. We do need a backup catcher though and history suggests the good backups don't want to play here because Martin takes up so much playing time.
  21. That's terrible. Someone post the picture of Dioner with the police hat and the stogie. It makes me happy. BTW - this story all comes from the legend himself, Barry Davis.
  22. Lance Lynn...
  23. That would be ok with Cain in RF
  24. We signed Zeke yesterday. Why are people suggesting hrs going to get cut? Do you think our FO is that stupid?
