  1. Let's keep it going...sign Trevor Rosenthal to a 2 year deal, then sign Kevin Siegrist to a minor league deal!
  2. With guys like L.Morrison signing for $6.5M and Y.Alonso signing for $7.5M AAV - Smoak's $6M salary seems to be the going rate (maybe $1-2M low). Coming off an offseason where guys like EE just signed for $20M, Morales for $11M, Beltran for $16M, Jose for $18M, M.Holliday fo $13M, Trumbo for $12.5M, etc.....I think at the All-Star break, we all thought Smoak's $6M 2018 salary would look like a MASSIVE steal...but the market's change and it no longer does IMO.
  3. Jesus. The Smoak deal doesn't seem as good as it once did.
  4. Does anyone like Cron? He looks useless to me
  5. I'm dumn
  6. "Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Wednesday in camp that he's planning to move Yuli Gurriel around the infield this season. Gurriel played first base primarily in 2017, but he was a third baseman in Cuba and Hinch believes he could handle some second base and shortstop." Da Fuk?
  7. Per Buster.....Astros top pitching prospect Forrest Whitley has been suspended 50 games for a violation of the minor league drug program.
  8. Oh (1 year) + Rosenthal (2 yr deal) + Siegrist (minor league deal) please. That said - I'd love to know why the Oh deal in Texas fell apart.
  9. I just read that only 4 pitchers in ML baseball last year averaged less than 20 seconds between pitches. That number alarmed me.
  10. Alex Cora announced Hanley Ramirez will be the teams #3 hitter this year. Solid start to his career as a manager.
  11. I just read the Reds are playing Nick Senzel at shortstop this spring. Votto, Senzel, Suarez and Gennett with Barnhart and Mesorasco behind the dish is a really good infield.
  12. ??? He played OF all last year and posted 3.8 WAR. DH'ing regularly probably decreases his overall WAR.
  13. He'll also be 34 this year and can't hit a lick. JDM's value has always been in his bat, which is elite and projects to remain elite for the next 2 years. The probability of Dyson losing a step defensively and on the base paths over the next 2 years is significantly higher and unfortunately, he's proven there's no upside in his bat. Given JDM's been better over the past 3 years and projects to be better this year, you vote suggests you're either very bias towards players on our arch rivals, or you're well....ah, never mind. Don't get me wrong. Dyson at 2 years, $7.5M is a very solid move for the Diamondbacks, but let's not pretend he'll be better than JDM please.
  14. Jesus f*** his average fastball was 101.2 in 2016 with the Braves.
  15. How's that working out for the Mets? 1.8 WAR last yr and protected for 2.7 this year.
  16. Again. You don't sign him based on what he's done the past 5 years. You sign him based on what you think he'll do over the NEXT 5 years. My point was that if JD is going to look at Grienke, Price, Miggy, Heyward, etc. and say he deserves $30M+, then there's a perfectly good counter argument that Justin Turner just signed a 4 year $64M deal. It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out. Personally, I think GM's are looking at Miggy, Pujols, Price, Heyward, Chris Davis, etc., etc. and realizing the risk of the 7 year, $25-$30M deals is super high. These deals are crippling franchises around baseball and it's no longer worth it.
  17. are you insinuating that because his answers are logical and factual?
  18. Turner was coming off a 5.5 WAR season at age 32 when he signed his 4 yr $64M contract. JD posted a 5 WAR season last year and is projected to post a 6 WAR season this year at age 32. This isn't 2004 - nobody is going to pay for what JD did back in 2015 - they are going to pay for what's he's projected to do over the course of his new contract. There probably isn't a better comp for JD in baseball given the position, age and skill set.
  19. He can also look at Justin Turner, who's better than everyone you listed above and an excellent comp for JD and see he just signed a 4 year deal at $16M AAV.
  20. Seems like a step in the right direction. 6 mound visits (excluding pitching changes) still seems like a lot though. Baby steps.
  21. It's a massive IF, but IF the Padres can get Hosmer to hit the ball in the air, he won't be overrated at all.
  22. He probably whipped it out - Louis CK style.
  23. I love how everyone just assumes Biagini is going to be an above average reliever again. It's FAR from a guarantee. His numbers weren't that bad as a starter last year (FIP 4.36, xFIP 4.23, 7.16 K/9, 3.07 BB/9)
  24. We're assuming he means W/L + ERA (bc every other stat Archer posts is great). Just sayin'
  25. Grandy just provides a lefty bat. Despite tanking with the Dodgers, he posted a 114 wRC+ vs. RHP last year and if you prorated his time with the Mets, he was worth 2.9 WAR over 500 PA's. He very well could be done, but there's a good chance he's still got some juice left if used properly and he provides good depth if one or more of the young OFers we have isn't ready. That said, he's also not going to stand in the way of Alford or Hernandez if they prove they are ready for a full-time gig. He's an excellent fit for our current situation.
