  1. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/daniel-murphy-talks-hitting/ I thought this was a cool article.
  2. A rebuilding team just signed Adam Jones to start for them...
  3. Holy f*** Jim - we know your thoughts on this subject.
  4. I agree. Max, Chapman - exciting to watch. Watching Tepera and other fastball/slider pitchers strike out a guy an inning isn't exciting (to me). Not all K's are made equal, just like not all defensive plays are made equal. Routine grounders and lazy flies aren't fun...but diving plays, slick double plays, etc. are. We have way more talent/athleticism in the game then we did 10-15 years ago. I want to see it utilized. Personally, I think it slows down the pace when there aren't balls put in play. Pace and speeding up the game go hand in hand IMO. It's like in basketball - teams have increased the pace, more shot attempts per game - it's more exciting. Fewer strikeouts probably means fewer pitches, which means the game moves along quicker and there's more action.
  5. Great example. I mean I could counter that and say watching Greg Maddux or Doc Halladay pitch to contact used to be extremely entertaining too...
  6. I'd love to see Alford make the jump and force his way into our lineup this year. Alford, Pillar + Grichuk would be fun to watch defensively.
  7. I feel mildly bad about this, but I'm actually happy to see there was no market for Jones. He can rot on a s***** rebuilding team.
  8. We'll probably be lucky if Alford gives us 10 WAR over the next 4 seasons.
  9. Morales lead the team in DRC+ last year man...
  10. Took the older two to the Phillies/Braves game last night in Orlando. Stadium was packed. Harp didn't play, but he was there. Another great evening. Pache hit a towering bomb for the Braves.
  11. Why's that Spank? I tend to agree that one of the biggest issues is the high K numbers. The game is more exciting when there are balls put in play. I'm not sure the answer is to move/lower the mound, but Bob's just saying they are testing that out to see if it helps.
  12. I agree with this, but I will say that KP is a good guy with the fans. He went down the line and signed probably 25-30 autographs for kids before the TOR @ TB game. My son got a ball signed, which made his day. It's easy to see why fans love this guy. Morales basically looked the 8 year old (who was standing next to my kids) in the eyes and gave him the big f*** YOU, when he asked for an autograph politely. f*** that guy. Cut his fat ass. My 3 boys ended up with 6 game balls and autographs from Pillar, Smoak, Teoscar, Alford, Tellez + LGJ. What an amazing day.
  13. yeah but what's LGJ's BABIP this spring?
  14. I think the bigger issue is the lack of balls in play. Watching people work deep counts and strike out a lot simply isn't enjoyable to watch. I'm not sure what the answer is, but more balls in play would be best for game IMO. If balls are in play more - I personally don't care where the fielders stand (although I'm not completely against rules that prohibit placement of defenders).
  15. I watched Tampa use a 4 man OF v. Smoak today...
  16. I'm going to side with Danger here. I'm not going out of my way to find a spot for Axford or Biagini in this bullpen. They suck.
  17. I'm confused. I thought they said it will be a 26 man roster, while they will limit the # of pitchers you carry on the roster. What's wrong with that? It will just return positional bench players back to what it was in the early 2000's before teams started stacking their bullpens with more arms.
  18. according to almost everyone. why call out Wilner on that?
  19. 1.9 WAR in 98 innings last year. Good gamble.
  20. Reports saying Giants offered 12 years $310M - but the Cali taxes means they would have to offer a lot more to equal what he'd take home in Philly.
  21. yeah that sounds exactly like our FO works...rash decisions are their MO...good point.
  22. Wouldn't you need to know what their profit was over say - the last 10 to 15 years to make that claim? I mean if some team is pocketing $100M in profit year after year after year and refusing to invest a little more in the team, then sure, but if they lost $400M over the past 10 years combined and then finally made some cash in 2018, you could understand why they aren't opening up the pocket book this year. Even at that - businesses aren't required to break even. They're allowed to make money. If you don't like their product, you don't go or support them.
  23. I wonder what his bunt % is and whether there are advanced metrics that suggest he should double it. It would be awesome to see him bunt so often that teams go into sacrifice bunt formation when he's up.
