  1. Absolutely it can be. Chris Ianetta went from like worst to first in framing after focusing and working hard on it over a single offseason.
  2. Unfortunately that isn't saying much...
  3. All that hard work in the vacant store front last year really paid off for Ottavino.
  4. 3 AM s***?
  5. Huh? Players should want to get paid up front. Compound interest + the value of a dollar will decrease over time. IF the Jays were interested, I'd certainly think they'd look at front ending the deal. Give him big bucks while all their young stars are making peanuts, then taper it back when they'll need payroll space to pay their young guys. That would create flexibility later in the deal (reduced risk for the Jay) and it should also be a selling feature for Machado. The issue these days is the opt out's....but again, you think front ending the deal, while including an opt out would really benefit Machado. That said - we aren't signing him - even though it does appear to be a good fit in terms of position and our timeline.
  6. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/a-dive-into-hall-of-fame-ballot-trends/
  7. most of the teams they list who chose to trade prospects to fill holes (instead of buying a FA) aren't up against the luxury cap limit either. Aren't there only a few in baseball that are? This seems like a flawed argument.
  8. which one of y'all is Daniel Labude?
  9. Religion and children don't mix it seems.
  10. are you trolling me friend?
  11. Didn't we hear that Grandal turned down some multi-year deals to sign with the Brew Crew?
  12. plus we all know that 2nd basemen in their early to mid 30's always fall off a cliff. Yanks signed him to be a backup player, which is probably a good fit moving forward (can he play a little 3rd too? or does he not have the arm)
  13. DJL turns 31 this year and his value is almost solely generated by this defense. He has a lot of similarities to Pillar (Pillar runs better). He's a 2 WAR player (2016 appears to be an anomaly) and I don't think teams are willing to buy into him as a starter moving forward. I fully expect to see the same thing happen to Pillar when he hits free agency.
  14. That's fair. We'll see if they finish this offseason with Ray on their team.
  15. I think you should shift the D-Backs down into the s*** category....sans Goldy, Pollock and Corbin - they gonna suck.
  16. + he'd still be arb eligible for the 2020 season. A nice benefit if you're taking a chance on him.
  17. I still think he just tells teams that he has to be guaranteed $X million or he's going to play MLB... He can be drafted, but he doesn't have to sign.
  18. Derek Holland back to SF on a 1 yr, $7M deal. Blake Parker signs with the Twins. 1 yr, $1.8M (which could go to $3.2M with incentives) Those both seems like solid value.
  19. Especially as a QB...
  20. Is that from an article? or is that from your inside s***? Either way - it's gold Jerry, gold.
  21. Gift Ngoepe has signed a minor league deal with the Phillies. The native of South Africa is currently competing in the Australian Baseball League where he has a 1.011 OPS in 30 games with the Sydney Blue Sox.
  22. The Alomar "double arms" pose after the HR off Eck would be a classic as well - and probably 1 or 1A on the best options. A statue of Doc would round out the top 3 IMO.
  23. Based on what Big Cecil reported - you may be overestimating the value of Martin's mentor-ship...
  24. I don't see anything wrong with statues that commemorate both historic events - and great franchise players. This would obviously be the former.
  25. They still have Barnes...
