In the meantime, we should all speculate and form strong opinions about the whole situation and those involved based on little to no information. Same fault in our voting system. It's easy to say - "I watched Moneyball - I know how GM negotiations work and Atkins should have played hardball more!" Here's a question...if Atkin's played hardball and waited teams out....and nobody fell for it - and he either kept Stroman or dealt him for less....would you applaud him? or s*** all over him for not reading the market and taking the best deal? (that's under the assumption an extension wasn't going to happen). I suspect the vast majority would s***.

I still love the stories about the bleacher bums racing along the top of the Wrigley Field fence - all for a free beer.......regularly falling onto the field in injuring themselves (sometimes requiring an ambulance to drive onto the field to clean them up). Haven't you read? Atkins ruined baseball and the trade deadline by giving Stro to the Mets. Teams now need to reference Todd's Top 150 prospect list to find trade candidates in the mid 50's. Oh and teams heard you have to wait until the last second to truly get the best value in trades, so just sit tight.

Everyone would love the trade if SWR was ranked top 50 and Kay was ranked top 75 on various internet prospect lists (either at the start of the 2019 season, or currently). Obviously the best thing that could happen would be for SWR to go from unranked to top 65 to top 25 next year like Pearson did this year. If he stays healthy, continues to dominate and ages (thus reducing risk) - that's not completely unrealistic (it's unlikely though). As Hurl said, if he was in the 2019 draft, SWR would have been a top 10 draft pick.

Man - I still remember when Bubba Starling was drafted 5th overall. It was probably the wicked name, but the draft show made it sound like he was going to be awesome. I followed him for a couple of years before it was apparent he sucked at baseball.

That's a fair take. Galvis seems like the type of guy who wants and expects to start....he always has and frankly he's good enough to start at the ML level. That's unfortunate for the Jays, as apparently he's a great leader and he would be an amazing utility infielder to help mentor Biggio, Bo & Vlad.

Percentage wise.....what are the chances that Bo finishes his career with more WAR than Vlady? I'll go with 35%. Premium defensive position and good base running certainly give him a good shot IMO.

Agreed...it's a pretty awesome trade environment for a young team built around positional prospects, who, in a couple of years (when we optimize our win curve), may need to acquire a couple of starting pitchers to compete. I'm a bit confused on why people are so surprised. I think in general - teams value prospects higher than they ever have before. Contending teams seem to be able to acquire proven ML talent cheaper than ever before....whether thru trade or through free agency. I know it's super frustrating to be a couple of years away from contending, but when the new 'core' is ready, it's easier than ever to go out and fill holes with quality players. In the meantime, we build up the farm system so we have the currency to take advantage of the weak market (let's just hope the weak market continues!)

There's a possibility the Jays don't want Giles pitching much before the deadline and Montoyo is just telling the media he's "not 100%" to as the smoke and mirror excuse on why he isn't using him. In highsight - not the best use of words....although I highly doubt that effects his value. There's a simple discussion with the other GM to day "oh f***, Giles is fine, we just didn't want to risk injury before the trade deadline. Charlie's a nice guy, but he's not too smart. He just made that up to justify why he didn't bring him into a game because some dumb ass casual fans are still all over him every time we lose - when it's obviously we're tanking."

Well Hurl said he would have been a top 10 pick in the draft this year. Most of us are really used to trading vets for draft picks during a rebuild. Stroman for Kay and a top 10 draft pick doesn't sound so bad Honestly though - most of us are upset because we didn't get someone ranked in the top 50 of some website's top 100 list. Those lists and the valuation of prospects can change rapidly (see Pearson, Nate).
