  2. Sorry man - but that's really dumb.
  3. The part you missing is that the catcher is wearing armor. A catcher getting the ball and throwing his armored body down in front of a sliding player to completely block the plate is stupid - especially when the runner can no longer force against the catcher. None of this is necessary. Players effectively tag players at 2nd and 3rd all the time. They can do the same thing at home. I think you're trying to claim that catchers may miss the tag sometimes under this scenario? OK - get better at tagging people.
  4. Ouch - feel bad for the kid. But it didn't cost him. Bibee picks him up and K's the side.
  5. Yeah - like blocking the plate without the ball = bad, but blocking the plate with the ball = good? That's stupid. I fully expect the justification is there were too many old school people complaining that blocking the plate is an integral part of the game and it's history and thus they landed on a rule that makes them a little bit pregnant. By only letting you block the plate once you get the ball, it reduces the number of collisions, but doesn't completely eliminate them. I hate old school BS like this.
  6. 100% - that's what I said right after it happened. If you can't run the catcher, than the catcher can't block the plate at any point - he has to try and tag you like someone would at 2nd or 3rd base. If the catcher can block the plate - then the runner should be allowed the run him over. This shouldn't be difficult. I also agree with your take on the slide. The number of people calling him out like he intentionally slide like that is bizarre. I'm glad you agree with me on the injury being a little bizarre too. I actually think Bo put himself in a position to avoid injury - but somehow he still got hurt. It certainly looked like it would be a bruise or at worst a broken bone to me. I found it very odd it was a ligament strain.
  7. It just seems abnormal to strain a ligament when your knees are bent like that - I assume it was caused by blunt force? Typically see it happen with hyperextension or when the leg twists or buckles unless I'm way off. If he slide properly, with his leg extended and that leg went straight into the kneepads, then I'd expect that would expose you to a potential ligament strain a lot more often than sliding with your knees bent.
  8. I find it so bizarre that Bo would sprain a ligament from sliding into a catcher's shin pad. Maybe I didn't see it up close or something. Did I miss something?
  9. Cleveland is 3rd worst in the majors with a wRC+ of 87...
  10. A truly remarkable transition really. One that people should talk about 50 years from now. The guy goes from being a 2nd baseman to RF and then to SS at age 31/32 - where he's actually quite good? It's an incredible story.
  11. Do you guys think this season marks the start of the decline of Mookie Betts? Or is this season just a blip in the radar and he'll have a couple more 130,-140 wRC+ seasons ahead of him still. This was his age 32 season... thoughts?
  12. Hahahahaha. F*cking love it
  13. Cmon!!!
  14. I mean - crazier things have happened. I think that would be one of the dream matchups for MLB with over 100+ years of history from each team.
  15. If the Jays go on a run and win a series or 2, we'll see a huge jump in baseball registration across Ontario (at least - if not further abroad across Canada).

  17. Yes - what I said was completely wrong. Oooof. I was reading off the ALCS schedule (and randomly stopped at Game 5).
  18. #1 or #3 without any hesitation
  19. The pitching isn't even that good. The bullpen is, but obviously the lose of Clase hurts.
  20. I said this already today, but I think it's insane the Guardians team is in the playoffs. Look at this f*cking lineup! I've listed their wRC+ next to their name Kwan - 99 Martinez - 74 Ramirez - 157 Rodriguez - 74 Manzardo - 113 Arias - 77 Rocchio - 77 Noel - 28 Hedges - 51 That is so gross. Stephen Vogt has to be the AL Manager of the Year.
  21. I'm using Seranthony or Varland myself. Both were really good in September.
  22. I don't think there is a day off before Game 5. It's the 12th and 13th in Toronto, 15th and 16th on the road and 17th back in Toronto.
  23. I don't think they'll consider tenure or contract status in these decisions. They're going to go with what they believe gives them the best chance to win. Every player on this team will support that decision - it's owed to them.
  24. Fangraph odds: Tigers - 58.9% Guardians - 41.1% Yankees - 64.9% Red Sox - 35.1% Cubs - 53.4% Padres - 46.6% Dodgers - 65.8% Reds - 34.2% The win %'s for the Yanks and Dodgers is as high as I've ever seen for a playoff series. I'm going with the Guardians, Yankees, Cubs and Dodgers.
  25. I love that storyline too. This kid has raked everywhere he's been - just can't stay healthy. Cleveland desperately needs him to become a middle of the order bat for them.
