  1. f*** he leans forward on his shot like he's a 7 year old who doesn't have the strength to take a jump shot yet. WTF is up with that?
  2. I wonder if this plays into teams decisions to sign him or not. If MLB does crack down on substances, are you getting the 2019 version? Do teams know which pitchers are using it? do they know which pitchers can still dominate without it? Does it benefit some more than others? or is everyone using it and thus there will just be a massive adjustment league wide. This s*** is complicated.
  3. Sad - one of the true characters of the game. RIP Tommy
  4. I believe the report said the Jays original offer was $115M. For all we know, they have already countered with higher values - or maybe they are sticking to their guns on this. Who knows. I don't think we should get too fixated on the #'s.
  5. "Verlander apparently told Harkins in a phone call that "the league has let this go on for 100 years," and claimed MLB began cracking down on pitchers using doctored substances after it learned teams were hiring chemists and conducting studies to find better ways to increase spin rate, according to court documents obtained by the Houston Chronicle's Chandler Rome." I've long suspected that some teams were doing this. I wonder how many teams are and if it's given the an advantage. Given all the player movement, you'd expect it would be somewhat limited as a player moving from a team with the scientific substance would soon realize his new team is just slapping Bullfrog Sunscreen and rosin together and hoping for the best. The 'good s***' would probably spread fast around the league.
  6. What ever happened to Bauer wanting 1 year deals? Give him 1 yr $45M. I guess we really want to lock him in for at least the next 3-4 years. I kind of expect him to sign a really complicated deal with a ton of opt-outs.
  7. you're assuming what "somewhat less than $150M" means... My advice, don't get so caught up on all of this, you'll just end up being upset. It's all reports and who knows what (if anything) is true. Just relax. It certainly seems like teams will benefit by being patient this offseason. There don't seem to be many buyers and there are lots of quality players available. The Jays have flexibility to take advantage of this, which could accelerate AND extend their competitive window if they play this right. Teams that say f*** it, it's only money and overpay almost always regret it.
  8. If he'd take $125M, I can't imagine the Jays to lose him over $10M ($2M/yr).
  9. What Watson did with the talent around him this year was incredible. I agree - there's no way Houston moves him.
  10. Which NY team is better now?
  11. I agree. I think Lindor is a FANTASTIC player. A cornerstone, face of the franchise guy, but guess what? We already have a FANTASTIC shortstop who's a cornerstone, face of the franchise guy on the team! Hard to justify moving all that prospect capital for Lindor (no matter how good he is) without an extension - especially given the market is flooded with SS's right now/next year. It's frustrating to see big names fall off the board, but I'm going to reserve judgement until the offseaon is over to see what the FO has in store. I do believe this is the right opportunity and time to add FWIW.
  12. Is anyone concerned about Hand? Big velo drop over the past 2 years.
  13. Being 'disappointed' means you've formed an opinion. Forming an opinion void of information and facts is a major issue within society. Would he be disappointed in the FO if: 1. he learned Lindor told the Jays he hates Toronto and wouldn't sign an extension? 2. he learned Lindor wanted 10 years, $350M, otherwise he wouldn't sign an extension? 3. he learned the Jays offered more and the Indians wanted to trade him to the NL? 4. he learned the Jays offered Groshans, Kirk and Gurriel and the Indians (mis)valued the Mets deal over that?
  14. Sorry I'm not giving up the prospect capital for a 1 year run at a WS based on an assumption we'll be able to land one of the high price SS free agents.
  15. Why claim this when you have little to no information? Maybe Lindor wants $300M or said he's testing the market. Maybe he said he wouldn't sign an extension with Toronto. Forming and opinion and/or judging people like this is pathetic.
  16. I wonder if the NL DH ruling is affecting them. If they need to put Dom Smith in LF, do they have room for Springer?
  17. Gasol is done. I do miss Ibaka. Apparently we lost him because we were trying to hold back enough cash to get Gasol too and end up losing both. Financial flexibility is always valuable in the NBA - whether it's for Giannis or someone else. This isn't a situation where he put all his eggs in one basket. He isn't that stupid. Don't create the narrative.
  18. Curious what the board experts say to this, but it certainly looks more like Jansen could have been the MLB player centrepiece. Gimenez was MLB's 60th best propsect in 2019, so maybe our comparable is Groshans (who's currently listed as the 70th). Wolf and Greene are both recent 2nd round picks, so we'd be looking at Van Eyk and maybe Dasan Brown Jansen, Groshans, Van Eyk and Brown...or something like that. I'm sure someone is better than me at this.
  19. 1. You have no idea whether the Raptors were managing that way. You can't be naïve enough to really think Masai put all his eggs in one basket. 2. Most big splash moves don't work out - that's typically the excuse for not making them. You don't have to like that (I don't either), but you should acknowledge it.
  20. You keep judging while having about 1% of the information Gruber. Great job.
  21. You've been setting yourself up for disappoint this whole time man.
  22. To be fair - he was really good last year (some bad luck with the ERA) and was on pace for 4+ WAR
  23. OK that's fair. I think someone's offering Sugano $14M. We'll soon see.
  24. Is it though? Treinen just got a solid contract. Grossman got 2 years $10M. I fully expect Springer is getting $125-$150M. I don't see the big discount people expected (which would be a wet dream for the Jays).
  25. We gave Roark 2 years $24M last year. I'm not sure why 4 years $56M seems out of the question for someone like Sugano. COVID doesn't seem to be reducing FA pay days as much as some expected.
