    Sorry - I wasn't suggesting these are all dumb. It was a mixture of things. Some I thought were interesting, some were just updates and some I thought were odd. DH'ing Gunner just seems really dumb - even if Urias and Mateo are better defensively. This is the future of the franchise type player - he needs to play and develop defensively. I had though Yoshida was more of a leadoff type - although he hit cleanup in the WBC, so that seems fine.

    I'll be listening to the Jays this afternoon while driving my kid to Whitby for the OMHA tournament. Some odd things I've noticed today. Gunner Henderson is DH'ing for the O's (so Urias and Frasier can both be in the lineup?) Albies hits cleanup, while Michael Harris hits 7th (assume this is because Corbin, LHP, is on the mound?) Belly is hitting cleanup for the Cubs Yoshida hitting cleanup for Boston Volpe hitting 9th for the Yanks Darick Hall hitting cleanup for the Phillies

    Well that's true and unfortunately the umpiring profession seems to draw in an unconceivably high number of douchecanoes. They need to work harder to weed these guys out in the minors.

    Yeah that's fair. I'm just not so sure I agree that's what's happening. I still think you see that low and away pitch (which, depending on the pitcher and the pitch - certainly seems unhittable) called a strike regularly. I suspect the stats suggest the 'missed' strikes are typically in the 4 'corners' of the defined strike zone - but it's not like they miss them "all the time". At the end of the day - I think it's a fair point that the accuracy of umpires has improved dramatically over the past 25+ years and with more technology available to help train/improve umpires, there's certainly a possibility we are going to get accurate enough that we don't need to involve a robo ump system.

    I suspect stats suggest there are areas of the strike zone that umpires 'miss' more than others. I always assumed this was due to human error and simply not being able to see the entire strike zone equally (as they have to try and look over the catcher). I never considered they may not call certain areas strikes because the hitter can't hit those pitches. You can't tell people "well I decided to not call that a strike (even though it met all the requirements of the strike zone, as per the rules of baseball) simply because I didn't think the batter could hit that pitch". That is so f***ing bizarre to me.

    I don't understand this notion that umpires call an oval and "they don’t call that inside corner, and that outside corner. There’s a reason they don’t call it: because you can’t hit that." Can someone slow this down for me or something? They're suggesting they don't call the up and in pitch, or the low and away pitch because you can't hit those? WTF?

    There was discussion the other day as to whether Jay Jackson would take up a spot on the 40. Here's what Rotoworld says: Blue Jays placed RHP Chad Green on the 60-day injured list with a right elbow injury. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man for Jay Jackson, who was re-signed to a major league deal and optioned to Triple-A after being released earlier this week. Green had his Tommy John surgery last June, so he could contribute out of Jays pen come July or August.

    Evan Drellich of The Athletic reports Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association have reached a tentative deal on a Collective Bargaining Agreement for minor league players. Drellich adds that it's a five-year deal and is the first-ever labor deal for minor league players in baseball history. The tentative agreement more than doubles salaries for players at all levels of the minor leagues from Triple-A to complex league and Rookie-level affiliates. Jeff Passan of ESPN adds that players will be paid almost year-round moving forward, eliminating a prior six-week break during the winter. It's an extremely positive development for the future of the sport and long overdue. This seems like fantastic news. Progress!

    I can buy into this. If we get a significant injury, than I think Otto would be the guy thrust into a meaningful role (4th OFer, Util IFer, etc) where he's playing somewhat regularly. If that were to happen, it would be better for Otto to have been playing regularly in AAA instead of getting 3 PA's a month in a Zimmer role. At least I think there's an argument to be made for that.

    Nice to see Cleveland spending money. This guy is a stud. They get a player who's about as good as Lindor, much younger and now at a 1/3 of the cost (+ other players). Well done.

    Latest report is two 2nd round picks for Rodgers with a clause that moves the 2024 2nd rounder to a 1st rounder based on certain criteria (like Jets making it to a certain round of the playoffs, Rodgers playing in 2024, etc).

    I must say that I LOVE seeing guys like Volpe and Walker making teams out of spring training. It appears the adjustments to the CBA have helped clear the path for teams to start carrying top prospects when they are ready instead of playing games to manipulate service time - and that is GREAT for the game. Man - the f***ing Cards are such a great organization.

    I think you can argue Swanson, Bass and Romano were all elite arms last year. Will they repeat? I have no idea and nobody's been very good at predicting which relivers will succeed and fail from year to year. Then you add in the possibility that Pearson could be elite in relief, along with Chad Green returning (hopefully as the elite arm he's always been) and a handful of minor leaguers who could be used in the pen at some point this season. Top that off with the depth we have (Cimber, Garcia, Mayza, Pop, Richards) and I think most fans are pretty satisfied with the state of the pen entering the season.

    I had the same experience. I mean, it was a cheesesteak, so it was good and I crushed it, but it was probably a 6.5/10

    They should go with a bacon wrapped dog with chili and cheese. When I used to work at DQ back in high school, make our own footlong versions - deep frying the dog/bacon (as opposed to using the fancy microwaves that DQ wanted you to use). They were amazing.

    I'm not sure this poutine dog appeals to me - but I'm happy they are trying to improve the options they offer. Food has been awful for a very long time at Rogers Centre
