  1. I read that David Freese struggled with a lot of mental health issues after that 2011 World Series run. He never felt he was able to play up to the same level he did during those playoffs and that haunted him for the rest of his career. He was essentially only being inducted into the Cards HOF because of his role in the 2011 title and thus accepting a spot in their HOF would be a constant reminder of his inability to replicate that success. No idea of that's true or not though.
  2. Oddly enough - Espinal has been league average v. RHP this year (100 wRC+) and sucking a bag of dicks vs. LHP (-7 wRC+). Who on earth would have expected that? He was supposed to be on the weak side of the platoon (as he's always hit LHP). No idea what you do with him. Another failure by Atkins. He should have known Espinal would stop hitting lefties this year.
  3. https://www.mlb.com/news/kevin-kiermaier-rates-among-all-time-best-outfield-defenders Pretty awesome article on how great Kevin Kiermaier is defensively. Worth reading.
  4. Is Bobby Witt Jr. becoming the next Alex Gordon for the Royals? His statcast page is RED, but the production is similar to last year. He's now 900+ PA's into his career with a 96 wRC+ Thoughts?
  5. C'mon Spanky - leave the guy alone. He's a (self proclaimed) quality poster around here. I have no issue with him calling me the biggest BJ homer like 6 times a day. It's cool.
  6. Crack a good joke - get a like. It's not that difficult around here. I have a Longoria jersey and a Rays hat myself. My parents are in Port Charlotte so I've seen upwards of 15 TB spring training games over the years. I personally love their ability to remain a sustainable winner with no fans or money. It's a pain the ass as a Jays fan, but I'm a baseball fan first and foremost. I have an old Miguel Tejada O's jersey too. I think I bought it because it was 90% off or something - happy to mail it to you.
  7. Cimber was coming off 1.2 and 0.9 WAR seasons with sub 3 ERA's with 70+ innings per. I know that looking at past results for relivers isn't a great indicator for future success, but Merryweather's inability to stay healthy had to play a big role in this also. Hard to keep the guy with no options who can't stay healthy and has never produced much of anything when healthy when you're trying to win. Should we have kept the Fernandez guys (the 2 minor league invites) on the team too over Cimber? They both have big time stuff and may at some point put it together for a year or 2.
  8. I think it also matters WHEN that happens. If he develops into a 15 HR /.300 hitting catcher in 2027 or 2028 (when he's 27/28) than great, he'll be a superstar catcher in this league - BUT that wouldn't have helped the Jays at all as it didn't align with their window. If that happens next year, then that would certainly suck from a Jays perspective. But there's also a possibility it never develops...
  9. I think we all knew he was a high risk/high reward type player who without a doubt had the skills to run into some successful years in the majors. But this organization wasn't in a position where they could keep holding on and hoping that would happen in a Blue Jays uniform. Good for Merryweather though. Hope it continues. Cubs have had a number of guys exceed expectations this year and I see Anthony Kay is now back up with the big club.
  10. Huh? Carson Kelly was as good in 2021 as he was in 2019 (1.8 WAR and a league average bat). I'm sure they'll probably start splitting time, but I don't see an issue with running Kelly out there 3 days in a row in an attempt to get him back into the swing of things - especially when Moreno has been struggling bad with the bat (could be a mental break for him).
  11. I think this is spot on. It's not always such a black and white situation. It's just like when people look at the results to date and say "Atkin's doesn't know how to create proper depth on this team" - when we went into the season with Jansen, Biggio, Espinal and a 5th OFer in Lukes on the bench. We had all kinds of versatility and skill sets on the bench. Even though the results may not have been there - no matter what the situation, there's also a probability of failure that you can't control. You have to judge the reaction to the results.
  12. That's so odd. OK guys, Gausman was rained out yesterday, but we're going to skip him in favor of Josh Towers today...
  13. Who is in charge of developing and implementing the development of pitchers throughout the organization? Is that all Atkins? Or does Pete Walker get a say in that from the standpoint that he wants his philosophies to trickle down throughout the organization? It would seem like that could be someone's sole job - Director of Pitching Development who works with the pitching coaches at each level and ensures a consistent message, tracking progress, etc. It seems like a stretch to think the GM could stay on top of that, plus all the other responsibilities. You'd think there could be a similar position for hitting and fielding development as well. Is that a thing?
  14. Moreno's last month has been pretty awful 60 wRC+ .210/.282/.306
  15. Tinnish never left the Jays. He definitely was going to leave at one point, but pulled the plug last minute to stay with the Jays (primarily due to family reasons - tough to move the fam to Atlanta). He's still with the Jays and is the Vice President, International Scouting & Baseball Operations.
  16. Didn't we pay Toman like a 1st rounder?
  17. This is very well said. Thank you Dick.
  18. Tucker Toman? Josh Kasevich?
  19. And jaysblue thinks I'm a homer...
  20. Has any new GM ever come in and cleaned house from the DSL to the Major League level? Based on the results, every scout and every coach at every level is f***ing atrocious at their job. That new high performance lab we built sure is paying dividends.
  21. I'm pretty sure he wears a butt plug so he's always ready...
  22. The 28th round pick from 2017 who I'd never heard of until last week? You are correct - no love. But I mean, sure, I hope he's the next Ryne Sandberg.
  23. Orelvis is literally the only prospect worth following right now - oh and Damiano Palmegiani. Even draft picks like Toman, Doughty and Josh Kasevich are all a bag of dicks.
  24. Absolutely. Development is f***ing s***. Typically when the big league club isn't playing well, I would turn my attention to the minor leagues - but this year is just garbage.
