  1. Oliver Drake came to mind, but his K/9 isn't nearly as sexy.
  2. Did anyone see the poor kid take one directly to the face in Vlad's last round? I think it was the 2nd ball he hit - line drive to LF, directly to the mind. Perhaps sending out 10 year olds to catch 105 MPH liners off the bat isn't a great idea?
  3. Spanky - what list was he ranked 46th on? That seems like good value at #89
  4. Diamondbacks picked him up...9 picks before the Jays pick.
  5. Jays take Juaron Watts-Brown Watts-Brown originally committed to Texas Tech as a California high schooler, but the Red Raiders backed off him when he injured his shoulder playing quarterback as a senior and he wound up at Long Beach State. After redshirting while getting healthy in 2021, he made his college debut last spring, threw the school's first nine-inning no-hitter and set a school record with 13.6 strikeouts per nine innings (the fifth-best rate in NCAA Division I). He starred in the Cape Cod League during the summer before transferring to Oklahoma State, where he led the Big 12 Conference in strikeouts (124) and strikeout rate (13.6) despite an up-and-down spring. Watts-Brown's best weapon is a plus 83-86 slider that he commands better than his other offerings, showing the ability to get swings and misses in and out of the strike zone. His fastball parks at 90-93 mph and tops out at 96 with decent running action, but it's fairly ordinary in terms of velocity and life and gets hit harder than any of his pitches. He also employs a solid low-80s curveball with bigger break than his slider and an average mid-80s changeup with some fade and tumble. More athletic than physical, Watts-Brown has a slender 6-foot-3 frame and some questions about how well he'll handle a pro starter's workload. He shows some feel for pitching and should be able to refine his control and command as he gets more innings. His biggest need is to add some power or movement to his fastball so he can keep it off barrels.
  6. That's great, but what gave you the impression I loved Riccardi?
  7. Why would you suggest that? Is this still on the thread that I'm some Blue Jays homer? Good god man - let it go. Atkins' drafts haven't been very good at all. Manoah and Pearson - that's about it. Fingers crossed that Ricky T and Barriera work out. IFA's, trades and FA signings have been a lot more positive to date.
  8. I'm not giving Riccardi credit for drafting Eric Thames. He had to go play in Japan (or was it Korea?) before he found a spot at the ML level. And Adams, Cooper, Purcey, Jenkins were all complete busts. Romero, Hill, Lind and Cecil seem to be the only guys he drafted worth noting.
  9. Just checked and Gunner Hoglund isn't pitching very well this year.
  10. Someone call up Steve Pearce. We need someone like him.
  11. Jesus - it was a joke (although it may end up being true). I believe Moreno is a poor framer (35th percentile), so I'm not sure he's currently elite defensively and his base running has been awful this year also FWIW. Maybe he finds some Viagra for that limp dick bat at some point, maybe not.
  12. Based on the results to date, perhaps we sold high on Moreno...
  13. This is a massive, massive long shot, but still fun to consider... Ohtani is currently in the running for the AL triple crown and if things all broke right in the second half, he could also be in the running for the AL Cy Young award. Imagine a season where he wins: AL MVP AL Triple Crown AL Cy Young AL Silver Slugger Is that the greatest accomplishment in sports history?
  14. He should have traded Vlad after 2021 and Manoah this past offseason too. What a f***ing idiot.
  15. WTF? How on earth does Franco not make the ASG?
  16. Good to see as he has cooled off lately. The good news is he's still walking and not striking out much. 13.4 BB%, 19.3 K% on the season is really good to see.
  17. It's pretty sad that Whit and Vlad are considered all-stars.
  18. Still hope as Gausman should be the starting pitcher. He's the best in baseball.
  19. Cards are right up there for most disappointing team in baseball. Obviously the Mets and Padres are right there with them.
  20. Why was he cheating in the first place if it had no tangible affect on his spin rates or break on his pitches? Unless of course [puts on tinfoil hat] he never stopped cheating!
  21. Yeah I have a buddy who I coach with who got to meet Barfield, Olerud and Fergie. I think he met Olerud's wife at the airport and drove her to the ceremony or something.
  22. NFL teams make players hit certain weigh levels. I wonder why they can't in baseball? I mean I guess that would need to be added to the CBA or some union s***. Doing something that is going to have a drastic impact on your ability to do your job seems like something the employer should have some leverage on.
  23. I'm not sure he's even a pen arm without his wipeout slider. 94 MPH fastball with an average to below average change up sounds like AAA depth. Doesn't this team need more depth starters in the upper minors? Problem solved!
