There is a lot of truth to this. Easy to say "CUT ESPI - WHY THE f*** IS HE ON THIS TEAM" over and over, but he's coming off a couple of 2 WAR seasons where he was a league average (and 15% above league average) hitter. FO made the right call bringing in enough guys to push him to the bench, with him ideally filling in v. LHP. He ought to have been a perfect utility guy in that role. Hits lefties and can play all 3 key infield positions, including SS.
But f*** me - it hasn't worked out this year. He's been a mess. I think he'll have to earn his spot moving forward, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if we're singing his praises as a quality utility player in 2024.
