    Seems doubtful to me. Lots of the teams claiming ahead of us are in the thick of the playoff race too and I'm sure they'll have a little money and some s***** guy on their 40 they can drop to add 1 or 2 guys who could help.

    He's crushed lefties this year. He'd be a good fit for that purpose. Bader does too for that matter.

    I mean, sometimes you gotta look beyond the paper numbers and look at all the underlying things they are doing exceptionally well like hitting the Baseball very hard, the quality of their plate appearances. Those numbers are a great source of projection but young players are continuously getting better and take huge steps sometimes those steps come at the next level.

    Yeah that perception sucks, but I would suggest by looking at the numbers that this is all a SSS statistical anomaly that is just f***ing Texas over at a terrible time. I doubt Ragens is really this good (minor league numbers certainly suggest that) and I doubt Chapman is this bad (he's the 4th best RP in baseball this year [2nd best xFIP] and obviously has a f***ton of experience closing).

    So the numbers don't really suggest they should be on the ML level and then you throw out some BS about evaluating based on several other factors - which you haven't done at all (but the Jays have) and then conclude they should both be on the team right now. If this conclusion leads to you believing the FO is s*** - than that's really stupid - yet a good example of how idiotic society is these days.

    and you've done all these things and have determined they should be at the ML level? or perhaps there's a chance the Blue Jays organization has done all those things and have determined they should stay in AAA? I wonder which one is more likely...

    I agree. You also have to factor in that Betts has filled in at SS and 2nd base when needed this year, in addition to RF. Acuna may have lots of SBs, but that needs to be offset by his horrendous defense in RF.

    Barger is hitting .258/.382/.423 with 6 hrs in 233 PAs since returning from injury. Good for a 108 wRC+. Orelvis has a 103 wRC+ in AAA. It's unlikely these guys would provide much of anything at the ML level - certainly not enough to be raising a stink about staying in AAA. McCoy isn't going to provide s*** either. Guys like Schneider, Clement, Lukes and Horwitz had a much stronger argument for deserving a callup. Even Rafael Lantigua did. Also - it's easy to look at what Davis Schneider is doing and say "call up all the AAA guys - they are great", but it typically doesn't work that way. Look at Nathan Lukes. He crushes in AAA and he's useless in the majors.

    There is a lot of truth to this. Easy to say "CUT ESPI - WHY THE f*** IS HE ON THIS TEAM" over and over, but he's coming off a couple of 2 WAR seasons where he was a league average (and 15% above league average) hitter. FO made the right call bringing in enough guys to push him to the bench, with him ideally filling in v. LHP. He ought to have been a perfect utility guy in that role. Hits lefties and can play all 3 key infield positions, including SS. But f*** me - it hasn't worked out this year. He's been a mess. I think he'll have to earn his spot moving forward, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if we're singing his praises as a quality utility player in 2024.

    Help me understand this. Pats waived Bailey Zappe, their 4th round QB draft pick last year, who was 2-0 with a passer rating over 100 in 2 starts last year. He goes unclaimed and has signed back with the Pats practice squad, while the Pats only have 1 QB on the roster and are expected to sign some s***** vet to be their backup this year. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me...anyone understand this?

    ducking under the CBT threshold makes a lot of sense as it resets the applicable penalties (if you're over for multiple years in a row, the penalty increases each year). It is out of character for them to make smart baseball decisions though, but it seems doubtful this is all a huge coincidence that they are doing it out of spite, but it also just happens to get them under the CBT threshold.

    This waiver dump by the Angels reminds me of the NBA where teams release their vets and sign with the contenders. I always thought that was BS, as the "top/fav" teams can sign these quality vet player right before the playoffs. At least in MLB, teams with lower winning %'s get first chance to select these guys from waivers (they don't become FA's like they do in the NBA). I wonder if MLB will look to modify the rules based on this.

    I find it hard to believe that after multiple seasons as a top 5 offense in baseball, that the same coaching staff went into the season and asked the entire team to change their hitting philosophy AFTER the league implemented rules to reduce the impact of shifts. That makes zero sense IMO. The only explanation would be some believe or stats that indicate the "pull da ball" philosophy doesn't work in the playoffs when you are facing elite pitching almost every night - where sacrificing some power and use an 'all fields' approach with fewer K's will yield better results. I'm just not sure that's true at all, so I can't imagine that's the direction they are giving the players. Perhaps it is the diamond? Our SLG% at home is only .404, while it's .426 on the road this year. ISO is .164 on the road and only .152 at home. I have no idea if those types of splits are significant or common though.

    I'd suggest the dynamic between a FO and someone who should be your star can be a delicate situation. These are men, not high school kids. If the players don't like it - why don't they address it themselves? These aren't kids waiting for the teacher to step in and yell at the class clown. There's also cultural differences at play here that can't be ignored.
