    I think $10M seems really high for a guy who's been over 99 wRC+ in just once in the past 4 years and 3 times in 9 seasons for his career. He seems like an expensive 4th OFer to me. But he was really good in 2023, so maybe.

    Also 5 BB/9, but yes, he was good. Still an expensive gamble, especially when you consider all the injuries he's battled.

    That's really the answer - and that's fine - maybe just say that upfront, or otherwise try and explain why you thought he'd be a good fit? Unfortunately there's really not a lot to like. He was awful last year and lost the extra MPH he had in 2023. I was just wondering if I missed some angle - like after [insert date] he changed his pitch usage and finished the season strong, or he added a pitch or something. He just felt like a tough fit for the Jays. They don't need a long man if Yariel is going to fill that role to start the year and I don't think you want a 2nd long man out of the pen? So you'd be signing him for the 5th spot, which takes you out of the running for another SPer (unless you're trying to deal Bassitt or something). It just seemed like something you'd only consider if you've decided to give up on a quality FA starter and want to go the cheap route for the 5th starter spot - and if they do that, there will be lots of decent options - like a Lance Lynn. If AA doesn't want him with the depth they have, then I'd stay clear myself.

    Indeed. I liked him as an option for the pen, but not at that price. Can't blame Atkins for passing IMO.

    I know you've been going on about him all offsason, but does he have untapped potential? He's entering his age 29 season and has had one year with an xFIP below 4.72. His statcast page is frosty blue. He as projected to get $5.1M in arbitration and the Braves, who are seemingly short on rotation depth - nontendered him. If AA didn't want him, given their paper thin rotation, for me, that's a sign. I don't see anyway the Jays could have added him now unless they'd decided to essentially abandon the rotation and wanted to spend all their money on offense/bullpen.

    Oh that's a great one. Shame on that **** Atkins for not giving Manoah a massive extension. We should all shame him. Espinal too - that guy was an all-star and we didn't extend him? f***ing morons.

    Bo also comes with a very risky profile for long term success. But that, or the inconsistencies of Vlad don't really matter. Atkins is s*** for not extending players period. I mean some nobody from the Score, who gets paid based on the number of clicks said so in a tweet that lacks context, or any type of comparison. We should all be alarmed and angry. Who doesn't want Kirk locked up for the next 6 years?

    Sounds like the Cubs wanted the Yanks to take the entire contract (minus the buyout). Jays probably weren't interested in paying full pop.

    It's been a couple of years. The park has changed significantly, new teammates, new coaching staff and I'm told the # of bums and addicts has increased dramatically in TO. Also, the word "or" suggests it could also be the other person named who struggles. It's obviously not guarantee, but it's more common than you think.

    Of course we did. But really - any other team that's interested in a free agent or a player on the trading block inevitably helps someone else get the "deal they want". That's how negotiations work these days. Then again, maybe Ross wanted the Yanks to get Belly, so they were out of the running for Teo.

    I don't see anything about that here - https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/player/_/id/21735/cody-bellinger But he does have a player opt-out after 2025, with a $5M buyout. Looks like the Cubs are covering the buyout and the Yanks may just get him for 1 year $27M if he rebounds...

    Tend to agree. The most optimistic thing for Kirk is that he should be entering his prime as he heads into his age 26 season and in his 4th full season catching at the ML level, he should be past the "play defense first" stage and able to focus on offense more. There should still be optimism in his bat moving forward.

    Passan's says it's only $5M. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Yankees are acquiring first baseman Cody Bellinger from the Cubs for right-hander Cody Poteet. ESPN’s Jesse Rogers adds that New York is absorbing all but $5 million of the $52.5 million left on the final two years of Bellinger’s existing deal, which also includes an opt-out following the 2025 season.

    It really is - 100% salary dump. Interesting the Yanks want him for 2 years $50M +/- instead of paying Teo to the 3 year $75M deal (that our stupid GM won't offer him). All while the Cubs see him having absolutely no value (or negative value) at 2 years $50M. As sad as it is, I think there's a possibility the Jays ought to have given the Cubs "a little" more to get Bellinger. His ceiling may still be higher than Teo (it's certainly higher than Santander) and I just don't think anyone else is going to take our money...

    I have. I was on Season 4, E8 of Storage Wars. I outbid that rat bastard Dave Hester and ended up with a generator, 3 new sets of pots and pans and a golf cart. I cleared about $1,200.

    Even with Bregman and Teo/Santander, I doubt we're serious contenders. No bullpen still and in all likelihood, either Bregman or Teo/Santander will disappoint in their 1st year here. You see players struggle to adjust to new homes quite commonly. I mean they could contend of course, but it would probably take most things falling into place for that to happen.
