What's ironic is that if Swanson wasn't on the Blue Jays, he'd probably be the type of guy we'd identify as a good bounce back candidate for 3-4 million next year. Yates hadn't been good since 2019 Hudson is 37 and pitched 3 innings last year Ottavino is 38 and sucked last year Swanson had 2 good seasons prior to this one, the velo is the same, the results are not. He did deal with some very difficult family situations in the spring, plus a strained elbow (I think) - but no idea if that still has any impact. He's probably a decent candidate to rebound.

I'm certainly not ruling out that possibility. I just don't think Bassitt is dumb enough to want to go on record to complain about the FO in some clever manner that could be interpreted a couple of different ways. Maybe he is stupid. I think it's perfectly logical for the org to have concerns over what he said, to have spoken with him and hopefully cleared the air about it. There is a possibility that the org demanded or forced him to go on-air and lie about what he really meant - but the probability of that just seems quite low. I guess there's a possibility that he really did mean to rip the org, but after speaking with them, he realized how stupid that was and made his own choice to backtrack spin it another way. There's always a possibility that happened. But I also think there's a high probability that what he meant all along was exactly what he said when he was asked to clarify his comments - because I don't think Bassitt is stupid. Why are some people suggesting there little to no chance that's what happened?

This doesn't say anything. It just confirms that the org asked Bassitt what he meant by those comments (which isn't unexpected) and he provided clarification.

I believe the Castro Bros had another video that showed the adjustments Vlad made this year align with the mechanics he used in 2021 (I don't know or care about 2017 or 2018). We don't know who brought this to his attention and/or helped fix it. We don't know why it changed after 2021. I can't imagine that after 2021, Guillermo or any coach tried to change his swing and suggested he push his hands forward more - that's moronic. It probably just developed (maybe associated with an injury). We don't know who Vlad was listening to (or not listening to) in 2022/23. We also don't know how long it would taken to make mechanical changes like that. Breaking that muscle memory in game, in pressure situations can be difficult and I suspect the adjustment period is different for different players. The good news is that he's back.

What do you mean "this"? LHH weakness spans multiple GM's - 3 at least. Oh the luxury of growing up watching McGriff, Delgaldo and Green, along with switch hitters in Devo, Alomar, Tony, etc. provide that nice balance. It's been like 2 decades since we had star level lefties in the lineup on a consistent basis. Smoak had a couple of good years under Atkins and Lind had good years back in 2009 and 2013.

I know this is just a joke, but the reality is that top flight pitchers do develop out of thin air from time to time. A tweak in pitch sequencing/tunneling, pitch type/shape, etc. can have drastic results. The Top 30 WAR leaders this year include guys like Cole Ragans, Cristopher Sanchez, Seth Lugo, Nestor Cortes and Joe Ryan. None of these guys were ever highly touted and some of them bounced around between the pen, the rotation (the back of the rotation) and AAA until they found the right mix. Gausman was another example (although he did have the pedigree). It does happen and for f*** sakes do the Jays need something like this to develop right now.

I think this is a real possibility. We probably will never know exactly what he meant. I certainly wouldn't be too firm with some opinion that what he really was saying was that the FO f***ed up and is s*** (which seemed to be what some were doing - likely because it suits their narrative). That just isn't smrt. I also think we need to consider the probability that Bassitt would actually go on record with anything that suggests the FO is s***. I don't think he's that stupid. I guess there's some possibility that he wanted to show everyone how clever he is, so he said it without saying it. Not sure what he gets from that - like a gold star or something? He can joke with his teammates about how smart he is for telling the world how awful Atkins is without getting in trouble?

Who is in for a rude awakening? The Blue Jays? Or the fans? I don't think the Jays will spend quite as much next year, nor do I think they'll contend. They'll create the illusion they are contending and then sell off pieces when it's clear they are out of the playoffs. Hence the short term signings.

Isn't there a possibility that when he said "there was no pivot after Ohtani" that he meant there literally was no where to pivot because the FA market was so weak? I mean when asked, he clarified that was what he meant. Why (or how) can you be so certain that what he actually meant was that the FA had no plan in place and failed this team miserably after they couldn't land Ohtani?
