  1. I can accept this. If Goins can improve on offense (I think he has that potential) then I think he can become a regular 2B or SS on some team. However, I expect Devon Travis to always be a better hitter.
  2. I think it is the complete opposite. Plays that look effortless from Goins look like great plays when Travis makes them.
  3. Until the Blue Jays start winning consistently with Travis at 2B then I will continue to prefer Goins at 2B. Now that Tulowitzki is at SS, I have not been saying that Goins should be at SS because it can be shown that the Blue Jays started winning more games once Tulowitzki replaced Reyes at SS. This is because of Tulowitzki's defense and offense. Once Devon Travis proves that his play at 2B improves the Blue Jays chances to win then I won't believe it. In my opinion, so far he has only shown that he can contribute runs but in spite of what his calculated WAR is, he hasn't contributed additional wins over Goins. I don't accept the random chance argument for this. But once Travis returns from the DL, he will have a chance to prove his worth.
  4. Is that what I said? No, I said that Travis is a better hitter and decent 2B. However, Goins is better defensively. The combination of Reyes and Travis didn't work. Hopefully the combination of Tulowitzki and Travis will, but no one will know until they play many games together.
  5. Look at highlights of past games and forget about your dislike for Goins. Now that Tulowitzki is playing SS he is getting to most of the ground balls up the middle. When it was Reyes at SS and Goins at 2B it was usually Goins getting to those ground balls up the middle from the 2B position. The combination of Reyes at SS and Travis at 2B was 10 games under .500. That has nothing to do with random luck, the combination Travis and Reyes just didn't work. However, Devon Travis is good and I can understand fans liking him. I am fairly confident that the combination of Tulowitzki and Travis will be good. It just peeves me that Goins made a contribution and he seems to get so much hate from some fans.
  6. Yes, he is on the 15 day disabled list - http://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/2015/07/31/blue-jays-put-devon-travis-on-disabled-list.html
  7. I can understand people liking Devon Travis because he is certainly a good hitter. I think he is similar to Aaron Hill. The Blue Jays had an exceptional record when Goins played 2B and Reyes played at SS because Goins was able to make up for Reyes' lack of range whereas Devon Travis couldn't. If it had of been Reyes and Travis for most of the season then I think the Blue Jays would have been several games under .500 (as they were when Reyes and Travis played) and likely wouldn't have been buyers at the trade deadline. Goins doesn't get much attention but his play at 2B when Reyes was at SS had much to do with keeping the Blue Jays in the race. The good thing for Travis is that with Tulowitzki at SS there won't be as much required defensively from Travis at 2B, so I think the Blue Jays will be fine when he returns. Just to be clear, I am not saying that Travis is bad at 2B, he is decent, but more than that was required to compensate for Reyes' lack of range at SS.
  8. It was a great game to watch on TV. However, it was Goins playing at 2B and he got a home run and single. Travis was sitting in the dugout. Offensively Devon Travis is good but defensively he is at best average.
  9. Nice win by the Blue Jays. It is great having David Price on the Blue Jays. It was great for AA to bring in all these impact players in the off-season and over the past week; mediocrity was getting to be so annoying.
  10. I think this is going to be a tough series. Maybe just as tough as the Kansas City series.
  11. Goins, Yes. Santana wasn't expecting that. Gibbons had the right hunch.
  12. I hope that the Blue Jays won't take the Twins lightly. The Blue Jays really need to win 3 out of 4. If they split at home or do even worse then would be a big letdown especially leading into the Yankees series on the weekend. Kudos to Gibbons for putting Goins ahead of Pillar today. Maybe it will be a bit of a wakeup call for Pillar to be patient at the plate and have good swings to keep his #7 spot in the lineup (he has been hitting too many weak popups the past couple of days). On the other hand, Goins has shown improvement in patience and has been making good contact with the ball. The Blue Jays have all of their big guns in batting positions 1 - 6. I am looking forward to a great game with David Price pitching.
  13. Goins is probably higher than Pillar because Goins has been patient at the plate and getting walks the past few games whereas Pillar is now hitting short depth popups. It almost seems like Pillar and Goins have switched batting styles (although Pillar has never been patient at the plate he is now getting under the ball instead of swinging through it).
  14. Thank you, I fixed it. I don't follow the NL anymore now that the Expos are gone.
  15. Tulowitzki was hit by a pitch and could have been lost if it had of fractured a bone in his hand. Donaldson had every reason to be angry, the Royals were throwing at his head. This is what Miami Marlin's Stanton looked like last year after being hit in the head (source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2758919/Baseball-player-releases-shocking-photos-injuries-caused-fastball-face.html). Throwing at ones head shouldn't be part of baseball. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/09/17/1410932574948_wps_2_Marlins_Giancarlo_Stanton.jpg
  16. It sounds like the Kansas City Royals think that they are something special. Well they came into Toronto and could only win 1 game out of 4.
  17. Thankfully there is a game almost every day in the MLB. It would be tough waiting 2 - 7 days between games such as in the NHL, CFL and NFL. It will be difficult to wait to see the game tomorrow. Thankfully Monday is a holiday.
  18. I was very happy with the way Colabella played today. 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. But better yet he made some good plays at 1B. Colabello now has 41 RBI's. I just have to root for Colabello. He is not a rich MLB player since he played in the independent Can-Am league for 7 years (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Colabello) where most players make $2,000 - $3,000 per month (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_American_Association_of_Professional_Baseball). I wonder how he managed to make ends meet for all those years; he probably would have needed a job in the off season also.
  19. I wouldn't worry about it. You need a very thick skin to post on this forum. Posters on this forum are like politicians, there will always be someone who doesn't like what you are saying.
  20. If the Blue Jays keep playing this way they might sell out every remaining game. I forget what year it was when they sold out almost every game for the entire season and drew over 4 million fans. Not many teams have done that.
  21. For me, this was the most exciting game of the year. It was exciting right from the first pitch to the last. The Blue Jays were focused on the game on every single pitch on offense and defense. Good game all around. I can't think of any bad plays in the game by any Blue Jay.
  22. I like how Goins gets his body in front of ground balls. Like a hockey goalie.
  23. Blue Jays need to focus now. Jays need the win.
  24. Just an angry Blue Jay. I had better fix that though.
