  1. Pennington sounds like a better fit than Valencia.
  2. My thoughts also although I am not really up to date on NL players and their defensive abilities. I wonder if they would sit Goins for Pennington.
  3. Today's lineup (source: )
  4. I feel bad for Reyes, and I wonder what will happen with him next year. However, I am glad to have Tulowitzki on the Blue Jays. Aside from this, Valencia had a home run last night and went 2 for 3 - http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2015_08_07_houmlb_oakmlb_1#game=2015_08_07_houmlb_oakmlb_1,game_tab=box,game_state=Wrapup. It is good to see Valencia doing well. Interestingly, Valencia played 3B and Lawrie played 2B, as Lawrie did occasionally in Toronto.
  5. So will they just be sticking with the same rotation as this past week? Estrada (Thurs. July 30 against Royals), Hutchison (Fri. July 31 against Royals), Buehrle (Sat. Aug 1 against Royals), Dickey (Sun. Aug 2 against Royals), Price (Mon. Aug 3 against Twins), Estrada (Tues. Aug 4 against Twins), Hutchison (Wed. Aug 5 against Twins), Buehrle (Thurs. Aug 6 against Twins), Dickey (Fri. Aug 7 against Yankees), Price (Sat. Aug 8 against Yankees), Estrada (Sun. Aug 9 against Yankees), day off (Mon Aug 10), Hutchison (Tues. Aug 11 against A's), Buehrle (Wed. Aug 12 against A's), Dickey (Thurs. Aug 13 against A's), Price (Fri. Aug 14 against Yankees), repeat ...? I know Zaun mentioned a couple times having Hutchison miss a couple starts, but it appears that Gibbons is keeping the current 5 pitcher rotation. This seems to be best to me since I want Price to pitch next Friday, August 14 against the Yankees.
  6. I love wins like this. Very exciting.
  7. Kawasaki might get a start tomorrow.
  8. These close games are nerve wrecking. Great pitching and defense.
  9. Need a shutdown inning by Dickerson.
  10. Yankees are going to get hammered by the Blue Jays tonight.
  11. Here is the Blue Jays lineup (source: )
  12. OK, this is the last post because I am at work. I did not say that it was because he wanted to win so badly, I just don't believe in the WAR statistic. It can't accurately measure a SS range and puts more weight on offense than defense when every one knows that a run saved equals a run scored. Although I don't believe in the WAR stat, I still refer to stats that can be determined without making any assumptions (most of the basic and advanced stats). Why should I accept the WAR calculation when I prefer to look at all the individual statistical components on my own; it gives more information, which I have no problem understanding, and I can do calculations in my head. Maybe you prefer fantasy baseball, I prefer the real thing played by humans.
  13. This isn't common sense. You are the epitome of the saying: A little bit of knowledge is dangerous. Luckily your little bit of knowledge is in regards to baseball and hopefully you aren't piloting a commercial jet for a living (heaven's forbid).
  14. In spite of this post being sarcasm, I agree that having a team of superstars is the most important part of winning a World Series. However, there have been teams made up of superstars that have done poorly because of conflicts between teammates. One thing that is well known of in science, chemistry for example, is synergy. I actually like having all the statistics available on fangraphs and other sites, however, I know it is impossible for WAR to include negative and positive synergy. The post that I made earlier today was that Tulowitzki's contribution over Reyes' contribution is even greater than the WAR stat indicates (less than one additional win over 9 games). I don't know how anyone can dispute this.
  15. No, we are not the same person. I am not even being argumentative. I think the fWAR statistic is interesting. It only seems like an argument because it is in writing instead of a spoken conversation.
  16. I completely agree. However, there are a few people on this forum who will consider this to be nonsense (but not me). Another example is the 1994 Expos. The players believed that they were good enough to win the world series and were in first place when the season ended. Sadly in that case the outcome was no World Series for any team (but I digress).
  17. I wonder if the effect is even greater than that. Can fangraphs accurately show the much improved range of Tulowitzki at SS? The improvement might in reality be more like 2 or 3 games better than Reyes playing those 9 games (all else being equal including having Price on the pitching staff).
  18. I hope the Blue Jays players got enough rest last night. I assume they got into New York very early this morning. The way the Blue Jays have been playing I think they can win 2 out of 3 against the Yankees. However, I hope they will crush the Yankees. There are still many games to play this season so hopefully the Blue Jays players will remain healthy. If something happened to Donaldson, Tulowitzki or Bautista it might be hard to overcome. Losing any of those players would hurt offensively and defensively.
  19. The Blue Jays are really a good team now. Just one week ago they were mediocre and annoying.
  20. I am sure the Twins wish they could just leave now.
  21. Great play by Pillar but could have hurt himself in a blowout.
  22. What is Revere's contract status for next year?
  23. I am glad the Jays knew not to trade Edwin.
  24. Donaldson for MVP if the Jays make the playoffs.
