  1. I can't blame you. One reason that I liked the Montreal Expos was that they were usually considered to be underdogs and got by with players that they could afford. Based on the team salaries - http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/salaries/_/name/tor/toronto-blue-jays , 27 million below the Rockies would make you either a Tampa Bay Rays fan or Houston Astros fan?
  2. He had a 3.5 WAR for the Oakland A's in 2010 - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=3395&position=SS. Pennington is another important utility player to have on the team. He is good defensively and has had productive years in the past (2010 and 2011 were good offensive years).
  3. Here's today's lineup from the Blue Jays Twitter - They have their top defensive lineup on the field and I hope Hutchison will have as good a game as his last one in Toronto.
  4. I absolutely love the new defensively competent Blue Jays. Earlier in the season I had posted that I couldn't bare to watch the Blue Jays play since it seemed like the focus was purely on offense and outscoring the opposition with little thought of defense. I love the way the Blue Jays are now playing. Both offensively and defensively they are a treat to watch. I have gone from a lukewarm Blue Jays fan to a very happy one who doesn't miss a minute of any game (even if I have to PVR a game) ;). Actually I PVR all games so I can go back and watch any replay that I want (I just don't keep the games for long).
  5. I wonder how Goins suddenly started to recognize balls out of the strike zone so well? It was almost like someone turned on a light switch and now he can recognize pitches and where they are going - https://www.coachup.com/resources/baseball/hitting-tips-the-spin-of-the-ball#close. Was it good coaching from Brook Jacoby? Most likely, in my opinion.
  6. I am so glad that the Blue Jays will be getting back to Canada today. I keep worrying that some crazy American fan will bring a gun to the game. However, I guess guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people. I hope the Blue Jays will win game 3 today and then get out of Texas as quick as they can.
  7. In spite of having no Odor in their lineup they managed to stink anyway.
  8. That is a good quote. Players like Price and Donaldson no longer get sent to the minors except for rehab. I am looking forward to seeing Hutchison back with the Blue Jays.
  9. Yes I still remember Rick Monday's home run like it happened recently. The Expos were so close to going to the World Series.
  10. I like the Expos cap. All you a converted Expos fan?
  11. No problem . I am sure that you are already aware of all the fascinating stats available at fangraphs. There are so many stats at fangraphs that anyone who is interested can really delve into a players offensive and defensive abilities. For example, I really like the Inside Edge Fielding section - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=3531&position=SS . Hopefully in the future, defense will be just as well quantified as offense.
  12. This is like saying that all you have to know about the weather is whether it is severe, bad, fair or good; most people want more of a breakdown than that. Most people want to know how players compare offensively, defensively and otherwise, how is this possible when all the information is combined into one metric? As quoted from fangraphs: You should always use more than one metric at a time when evaluating players, but WAR is all-inclusive and provides a useful reference point for comparing players. - http://www.fangraphs.com/library/misc/war/. WAR might be a good starting point but there is every reason to go further and look at the other stats.
  13. I enjoyed hearing the interview with Tulowitzki. He sounds very intelligent. This Blue Jays team plays defense very seriously.
  14. Pillar only has 2 - http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pillake01.shtml . I think a 3rd baseman will have many more errors than a center fielder.
  15. I am not sure why the cycle is considered to be desirable. If someone has a single, double and home run, then another home run is better than a triple. The cycle is purely a matter of great hitting, and luck.
  16. I am not a big Don Cherry fan but I saw this interesting article about Don Cherry trolling Gregg Zaun on Twitter - http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/cherry-defends-donaldson-for-mvp-trolls-zaun-on-twitter/ . Who would have known that Don Cherry uses social media; I figured that he was completely old school but Cherry even mentioned WAR and OPS in his tweets. I saw this old 2013 article about Gregg Zaun - http://www.torontosun.com/2013/07/01/zaun-making-being-canadian-a-full-time-job. It seems like he might eventually become a Canadian citizen, so I can forgive him for his mistaken idea that Trout was a better MVP candidate than Donaldson for 2015; especially now that Zaun has changed his mind. Gregg Zaun has even started playing hockey goalie - http://www.brantnews.com/photogallery/4122148 http://media.zuza.com/e/c/ec9363df-cff6-47a6-8ce3-19094c4d6f8e/s-r-Zaun_Goal1___Gallery.jpg
  17. Thank goodness the inning is over. I have a bad feeling that Dickey will be back in the bottom of the 2nd inning though (since he got out of the 1st:()
  18. Good point. The same can be said for the terms idiot, moron and imbecile. However, even if people start insulting people with the term mentally disabled, it is not any more politically correct (if used as an insult). Maybe it would be a good idea for posters on this forum to avoid insults all together.
  19. Thanks for the information. I learned something new (no sarcasm intended, I didn't know that one could link to a particular spot in YouTube). That video is so amazing. I feel sorry for the truck driver, I am sure that it ruined his whole day . If only the city had made the warning sign about 10 times larger (the small one that states the low bridge clearance at 10' 6"). Tying it back into the thread topic, we should feel just as bad for the teams facing the Blue Jays, not.
  20. Although your post wasn't directed at me, I decided to look it up. Surprisingly, the stolen base stats are similar in 2015 for Revere versus Pillar. However, I believe Pillar is faster/quicker and prefer him in cf. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/reverbe01.shtml in 2015 - 24 stolen bases (SB), caught stealing 5 times (CS) in 463 plate appearances (PA) http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pillake01.shtml in 2015 - 15 SB, 3 CS in 479 PA however, Pillar probably doesn't attempt as many steals because of the big bats in the Blue Jays lineup.
  21. Today's Blue Jays lineup from Shi Davidi Twitter - https://twitter.com/ShiDavidi. I see that Thole made it out west in time. I hope that Thole will have a great game.
  22. I am not sure that Pillar is slower than Revere. Pillar gets to more fly balls in the outfield. In my opinion, Pillar is faster. Pillar is Jewish, so he is also part of a minority, since that is considered to be a plus. (Actually Jewish/Christian https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Pillar, but he has been mentioned in a few write-ups that list Jewish players - http://www.shalomlife.com/sports/28976/meet-your-jewish-mlb-all-stars-class-of-2015/, he is being included with some all stars)
  23. I wonder how Colorado will be able to move Jose Reyes? Has there ever been a trade where a team offers another team a player like Reyes, plus additional prospects and $12 million subsidy a year (in return the Rockies would be able to unload Reyes' contract). If the Rockies are unable to move Reyes then I wonder if Reyes will be willing to play a few games a week and help a younger SS take over his position?
  24. I still have a hard time believing that Alex Anthopoulos was able to get the Rockies to take Reyes. So far, it seems like there aren't any teams who want to obtain Reyes from Colorado. Where would the Blue Jays be now with Reyes still at SS instead of Tulowitzki. Probably in the mix with the Orioles, Rays and Twins making a painful limp for a wild card spot. Here is a new article on Reyes - http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_28686281/jaded-reyes-would-welcome-trade that is titled Jaded Jose Reyes would welcome a trade from the Rockies "I don't want to spend the rest of my career on a last-place team."
  25. I saw the interview with Bautista. Bautista must be one of the most intense players in baseball; his facial expression is frightening at times.
