  1. You're right. My bad. Disregard.
  2. Which is also a byproduct of them being adept at putting together a pen. But before anyone says otherwise: yes, Chavez and Storen were disasters and Floyd got hurt, but the point remains that they picked up previously reliable arms in order to boost overall pitching depth. And when the BP was failing, they made quality moves to patch up some holes. I honestly can't find a good reason to say Shatkins haven't done a very good job with the circumstances they were handed. All they needed to do this past off season was boost the pitching, given how good the lineup was. Well it's been the quality of the pitching moves that kept the team in contention while the "sure thing" offense was still deciding whether or not to show up for work.
  3. Shatkins brought back one ace and pretty much stole another one off the FA pile. They made a nothing trade for what seems to be an elite set-up man. They made a nothing rule-5 claim for an above average 7th inning guy, who could even be a starter next year. They recovered from a mutually-failed trade with Washington for an RP as well as the complete collapse of one of the league's best lefties and still ended up putting together an above average pen on the fly. It's in fact several of the pieces that AA picked up that have held this already first-place team back from being in a more decisive first place: Tulowitzki, Martin, Dickey, etc. Bautista has done pretty much nothing and Cecil has been a disaster. But Shatkins have somehow (and luckily, though AA was no stranger to luck) built a competitive ballclub despite all this. I'm not saying AA doesn't deserve credit for building this core, nor does he deserve criticism for some of his elite assets putting out down years, but I don't agree at all that Shatkins are simply riding his coattails and waiting for their turn.
  4. I'd as soon just stick Saunders in whichever field is the smallest for the ballpark being playing in that day. He honestly seems like a really bad outfielder in general. I hate watching him out there.
  5. Gibby actually went with T-Hole vs. Betances. Edit: and it works. Boy o boy.
  6. This game is coming down to a mound meeting between the league's two worst players.
  7. Fun fact: Tepera walked in the walk-off run earlier this year @ SF.
  8. It's a 1-run game with a short porch. Hell yeah it does.
  9. Would you put a money bet on Gibby leaving Thole in to face Betances?
  10. Brutal by the Yankees, wow. Jays pitching has been rocky all night but the Yankee hitters just cannot make good contact.
  11. Gibby needs to split up Smoak and Upton or something. Stunning how frequently the two of them kill rallies by not even being able to put a ball in play.
  12. "Can our mop up scrub hurry up and finish? My Tinder threesome isn't going to wait around forever. I still need to shower and destroy the clubhouse buffet."
  13. I predict a Thole home run. He's put some oomph into his ABs lately and Yankee Stadium is awfully nice to lefties. Then again he mostly hits stuff the other way anyway.
  14. I take this back. I hate the Giants and I hope AT&T Park catches fire.
  15. Okay now I'm worried about the Front Street paparazzi seeing me in my brand new Dustin Antolin home white. Great.
  16. Agreed. Shatkins have already shown that they are shrewd and clever. I really don't worry about them being able to find above average pieces to replace Jose, EE, or Saunders. I thought the offseason coming into April was pretty solid and I thought their deadline moves were excellent for what they were (acquiring controllable talent with decent upside that help at MLB now + restocking the farm + making some neutral but solid change-of-scenery depth assets).
  17. I love AT&T. The Giants are my NL team and their park might have a lot to do with that. My NL #2 are the Pirates with PNC Park.
  18. An O's starter went fewer than 5 innings and left runners aboard for a long man? Whoa.
  19. Travis continues to surprise. What a good hitter he is.
  20. Why is Ceciliani not bunting into no man's shift with no outs and a runner on? Instead Upton gets picked off playing grabass for a steal. I'm with LTBF on this one.
  21. You're letting frustration with hitting slumps push you too far into plan B territory. I get that you're pissed but pushing the ball 30 feet instead of using the team's hottest hitter's best skills is a genuine waste of his abilities.
  22. I think the rationale was simply to ensure a warm body at the position for next year instead of going into the off-season looking to fill four spots in the batting lineup. I can live with him as a backup, although I think they probably committed a bit more than necessary. I still don't want him seeing regular time, but I think retaining him is justifiable considering the cards on Shatkins' table.
  23. Sure am glad they played for a single run in the first inning and are now only leading by a single run.
  24. Smoak is unwatchable. This is low-end Colby bad. And then Upton. How many times have these two double K'd to kill rallies so far?
