  1. Probably not, all things considered. I have a sinking feeling he will be a member of the Red Sox by this time next month, though. They certainly have the assets and inclination to nab him. OTOH, if they've already balked at Hamels...
  2. Only issue with their lineup is that Werth is actually going to start the season on the DL because of some-such (I forget what). He'll be missing significant time too, IIRC.
  3. Morosi and others are confirming Scherzer to the Nats. Not official yet, so we know what that means. I'm really interested in seeing how everything develops if this is true.
  4. Dombrowski then. Or anyone in the FO who is hoping to sign one of these guys.
  5. The Tigers must be hoping that the prospect of playing on a winning team is more valuable to Price in next year's negotiations. Scherzer has all but stated he only cares about the dollars (and I'm not blaming him).
  6. The thing with Izturis is that he got signed before even the Marlins trade. I feel like every argument for him getting playing time is partially based on "well we're stuck with him, might as well use him". He's like leftovers that you're forced to eat because the only alternative is throwing actual food in the garbage. I'd honestly prefer a Goins-someone platoon. Tolleson I guess? Not a great option either. The 2B situation really sucks. Hopefully Travis shows up at the door sooner rather than later.
  7. I've never met a minor league deal with an invite to spring training that I didn't like... Hell, sign Pearl Harbor to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training and I'd be happy!
  8. Yeah, thanks. I know what his job is. But there's no proof the team wasn't in on Aoki is what I said (twice). The dude just gets his news from MLBTR or Rotoworld or wherever the same as anyone else. He answers questions like that's not the case though.
  9. Fair point. I suppose the team can carry an in-progress Pompey as long as he tracks down flies balls like a hawk. I just get anxious at the idea of the admittedly excellent top half of the lineup compensating for black holes at the bottom. It's kind of been a running joke for the last few years now and it never doesn't suck.
  10. It's not that he isn't necessarily wrong. It's that he might as well be guessing. The Jays could very well have been in on Aoki and just weren't able to land him. This is a man whose partial job description is "tweet to fans". He knows nothing. If AA sees Wilner in the hallway, he probably whips his phone to his ear pretending a call just came in so he can glide by without having to say hi. I kind of would have liked Aoki on the team, though... Not really sure where he would have fit, but I think he's a valuable little piece for a team to have.
  11. Is Wilner from the moon? When someone asks, "why weren't the Jays in on Aoki?" the answer isn't "they don't have the money". The answer is "I have no idea. I only work on the radio. I don't manage their books. They could very well have been trying to get him. You know how these deals tend to just happen, especially when AA is involved. Who knew about Donaldson before it happened except for the highest FO execs? Who knows if every team wasn't in on Aoki?"
  12. Yeah, at this point I think the team needs more Pitchler than Hitler. Specifically, Relief Pitchler.
  13. His reasoning is literally that Sandoval and Ramirez are very good, Betts and Castillo might break out, and there is solid depth. If Ortiz and Pedroia continue to decline the team still has enough offense in the tank to be decent. I agree that the Red Sox offense will be scary, but is #1 actually a reasonable conclusion based on this summary? It seems like too many bets are hedged to make this a definitive answer.
  14. Now that I think of it, the Jays also picked up Daric Barton. I think a Smoak-Barton competition isn't markedly worse than the reasonable expectations from Howard. Any money allocated for Howard should be spent elsewhere, IMO. I wish I could change my vote.
  15. I might take him if the price is amazingly cheap. He might be all right as a well used DH platoon, but I'm pretty sure an Edwin/Smoak/Valencia 1B-DH rotation is ultimately more valuable, without even looking at the numbers. I like your style, my spanking friend.
  16. You know how some call ******** when people advocate for acquiring big name players for an automatic ROI because of butts in seats? I'm proof otherwise. I would buy at least two more nosebleed tickets per season if the Jays nabbed Reddick. My girlfriend usually comes with me too. So that's four tickets. Make it happen, bean counters.
  17. Just in case everyone forgot: Seriously. I actually want to the guy's friend.
  18. Josh Reddick sounds like a f***ing riot, man.
  19. Yeah. Thole learned and I don't think he exactly had to go through a doctorate program for it.
  20. Hawks-Wizards game coming up tomorrow. Win-win for the Raps!
  21. I hope a MLB front office wouldn't think this. The Rays must know that the A's priority is to improve themselves. If that includes dealing former Rays to Ray rivals, that's just business.
  22. Zobrist leaves the A's at the deadline for a massive haul from a desperate contender.
  23. Even if he used actual money to wipe away all of papa's tears he'd still be left with 3.1+ million dollars.
  24. Super geek is the only way to be.
