  1. Agreed. I'd want him back, but unless he's seriously injured then I'm assuming he had a dispute about playing time with Chicago. I'd definitely have him back as a 2b/3b reserve. I'm fine with Barney as a back-up SS.
  2. Cut Smoak, cut Zeke, sign Pagan, sign Lawrie, Pearce to 1b.
  3. Not bold enough? San Diego will produce a Cy Young Award contender.
  4. San Diego will produce a Cy Young Award contender.
  5. "Can't be worse than" is a terrible way to look at things. It can always get worse. Being worse is way easier than being better. If Pompey can't even beat Zeke then leave him in the minors.
  6. Andrew Cashner down with a bicep injury. Do the Rangers have anything notable past Hamels and Yu? I've heard Dyson is hurting too, but I don't know if that's serious. Obviously Diekman is out for 2017 too.
  7. For some reason I just can't see the team cutting Ezequiel loose. He'll probably get scooped up pretty quickly. I think Pompey goes to AAA even if he rakes ST. He'll need to kick the door down during the season or wait for an injury.
  8. I had no idea Roberts was that well regarded. I thought he was just a warm body manager.
  9. I don't think Pillar has a chance. Nicholson-Smith got a soundbite from Pillar, a fan favourite, and used it. I bet everyone on Twitter and all the lurking guests here have already clicked it. Mission accomplished.
  10. I still like Bautista over Morales but Martin over Smoakton is fine. I'd compromise on both as long as the guy who put up a .370+ OBP in two of his last three years gets to hit in front of the big bashers. "But those were only half-seasons from Pearce!" someone pleads. "He didn't get more than 400 PAs in either of those years!" Well do yourself a favour and take a look at the total number of games played by Travis since 2015.
  11. It's clickbait based on Pillar talking about working really hard. It worked because I clicked it when I wouldn't have if it just read "Jays Still Face Questions About Lead Off Hitter".
  12. I like a regular lineup with Pearce leading off and getting regular ABs at either 1B or LF: Pearce Donaldson Bautista Morales Tulo Travis Smoak/Upton Martin Pillar I don't think Travis should be gifted the leadoff spot. He's absolutely not proven enough to receive the most PAs over the year, and Pearce gets on base more (and hits for more power). If Travis is "good enough" to hit 1st, then he's good enough to hit 6th or 7th with all those baserunners.
  13. Wilner just said that Tellez is the "story of the Spring". What have I missed? I admit I haven't kept up much on ST news other than checking in for injuries.
  14. It's weird. I think Scherzer will be on their payroll long after his tenure as a Nat too. I wonder if they're penny pinching for the sake of landing a legit closer, even if it's part way into this season. They've been linked to David Robertson quite a bit.
  15. David Wright diagnosed with shoulder impingement: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/02/david-wright-diagnosed-with-shoulder-impingement.html
  16. Where's my angel? I'm a naked soul Where's my angel? I'm a naked soul Now don't you hide from me Don't you hide from me Don't you hide from me Don't you hide from me Please don't --The Tea Party
  17. TBH, I think Gibbons has a bit more job security than that. It's a hard sell to the players and the fan base that Gibby deserves the boot for a down year after two successful ones (yes, I consider going deep into the playoffs successful). I'll be surprised if the FO pulls the plug on Gibby like that in 2017 for anything short of a clubhouse revolt or a severe disagreement between him and the FO.
  18. Completely and totally unrelated, but your comment reminded of me this totally fascinating non-story: http://www.newstatesman.com/science-tech/internet/2016/12/movie-doesn-t-exist-and-redditors-who-think-it-does (Recommended for posters who were born in 1990 or slightly earlier; I predict that Kat, at least, will enjoy this though.)
  19. Dunno about "really like". It's bad business to definitively put down your no-value 1B by publicly dropping him on the depth chart before he even arrives at ST. It's entirely possible that Pearce goes running with the LF job over freaking Zeke, which leaves Smoak as the default 1B, and you would have done a net negative by belittling him in the media. It's also possible they're trying to find any buyer to take him.
  20. I guess this league is too shallow to employ Fernando Abad... Still, he probably wouldn't be Abad pick.
  21. Could be a bit of work. The team clearly wants him so they'll probably have to approach what might be a bruised ego or a guy who might be dead set on a MLB deal and doesn't see the writing on the wall that he won't get one. The Yes/No tactic likely ends in fewer successes than having a semi-deep negotiation.
