  1. I'm an extremely late bloomer to pickles. I only started enjoying them in the past couple of years. I really like them now, but they must always be on the side of whatever lunch or burger I'm having.
  2. The posters who hate Gibby the most tend to be the loudest. But I don't think anyone's being rosy in this thread. It's mostly just the same stuff as always: he's an all right manager who makes some blunders, but he's otherwise probably above the average and it's not worth risking whatever chemistry may exist trying to "upgrade". Keeping him around for the rest of this core's run is probably a sound decision. The gushing is mostly for personality. I mean, double finger guns and untucked shirts.
  3. Do you mean the starting rotation, not the bullpen? The O's pen is tough.
  4. Yeah but Martin was pretty successful with the Yankees off the bat and his tenure was more like a high school rom com. Gibby was pretty much a footnote in Jays history, came back from the dead, and is now sort of a folk hero. (Until the inevitable team slump, of course.)
  5. Pretty nice to see Gibby get this sort of respect after his unceremonious exit from his first tenure in 08. How often do guys come back from the grave with the same franchise to then make their mark? Players, yeah, but managers? I can't think of one off the top of my head.
  6. TD Comfort is a good spot. I had two seats there last year for the big comeback against Boston. I'll see about grabbing tickets for a game that weekend. Seeing the Orioles once a year is a tradition my girlfriend and I have anyway.
  7. . Done. I have a new gig that will let me get to a lot more games during the week. I only got to two last year, and one was a closed dome game in April
  8. Congrats brah. She's adorable.
  9. Yeah I've worked in environments where you could almost swear guys were TRYING to get hurt. Everything from skipping safety boots and glasses, setting up power tools sloppily, etc. Safety gear should be non-negotiable, like wearing a helmet in football. You're not being paid to be a daredevil. All it takes is one unlikely accident to lose a finger or an eye or worse.
  10. Angel Pagan apparently failed a physical with the Orioles. Maybe less credible because it's the Orioles, but could explain why he's had seemingly no bites.
  11. It would affect other aspects of the game. A fielder grabbing a bunted ball might end up with the screen in his way. Catchers won't be able to catch stealers at second. Any throw to the plate will be obstructed. Pitchers need to wear equipment, period. Maybe something with a simliar design as a football helmet: hard surface + face cage.
  12. That Kim home run still kind of chaps my ass tbh.
  13. O'Neill almost took him oppo, geez.
  14. Despite the results of that horrid season, I think this was actually KIND OF the case in March of that year. I don't think Romero and Happ fighting for SP55 were being counted on for a whole hell of a lot though. But lots of fans liked the first four of Cy Young Dickey, JJ, Morrow, and Buehrle.
  15. He's definitely capable. Got to love a rotation with five different guys with a realistic shot at being ~3WAR competing to be the staff ace.
  16. I don't think Pearce touches 2B in any situation except a complete emergency. He's not a 2B; Orioles just used him as one back when they had a s***** 2B situation and the Rays are always toying around with positions. I always thought the 2B thing was wishful thinking based on circumstances he was forced into with the O's and Rays.
  17. If you had a gravelly enough voice you could read this as a voiceover for a sci fi war movie trailer. Take an audible drag on a cigarette in between 'is' and 'and'.
  18. -Getting the superstar treatment in your debut city -Seeing people's patience for you decline over three years -Getting traded away from that city as a 1/4 package for a world class superstar and being promptly forgotten -Having a bad year with your new club, then getting traded to another club for peanuts before the next season -Having an injury-riddled year with this third club -Getting released in ST the following year Might be time for him to dial back the act at this point.
  19. lol @ the literal football score by the A's and D-backs today. Not sure how many arms made a very good case for being a 25th man today.
  20. Agreed. Unless he's shopping for a starting role, it would be pretty sweet to a player like him to cover days off at 2B, 3B, and even corner OFs.
  21. Which any OBP machine would do! /optimism
  22. Getting pretty tired of Travis tbh. He's a good player but no way does he ever get through a season without significant DL time. He doesn't even deserve the lead off role either. He only has it because he's not a premier slugger and has respectable OBP skills. He looks better hitting 6 or 7 in this lineup, IMO.
  23. Brett might have to change his tune playing right next to the god he was traded for. Which is probably another reason he wouldn't sign here. Ego is always involved.
