  1. Do you mean on here or in general? Most people on look like they are supporting Jose... Haha, yeah I gathered this much. Just a really awkward sentence in print.
  2. Maybe it's just me but I'm not parsing that last sentence there. But wow @ Jose. Good for him. This probably won't end well for Jays fans but Bautista just earned himself some more of my respect.
  3. Winter is over. I even have the windows open at my apartment. Baseball is coming.
  4. ^ Exactly. It's not that much a zero-sum situation. If he gets a bit more practice in LF in addition to his regular position it can only be a good thing. Never know when some sort of injury or pinch hit decision could be alleviated by having one more guy who can at least position himself to catch a fly ball.
  5. I don't think there's anything wrong with him getting reps in LF. If he's able to improve he can give the team more versatility in the field. That's what ST is for after all. I'm also a bit surprised that Hutch is being regarded so low. There are roster reasons why he might not make the 5th job, but it feels like too many are writing him off on a pure talent basis.
  6. This was my main argument in favour of Gibby last year. Funny how a good decision that becomes routine turns invisible to people.
  7. If Gibby leads off Pillar then Shatkins are going to put a target on him. If the team is struggling by mid-year Gibby will get the boot, not only because he demonstrably sacrificed the quality of an elite-calibre lineup but because of that ridiculous rolling contract AA gave him. Gibby's contract is already a minor constriction for the FO, so he'd better do everything he can to reduce his bosses' incentive to get rid of him. I won't judge him on what he says to the media since as far as I'm concerned it's all contractually obligated fluff anyway, but if he actually hits Pillar first I'd completely agree with a firing. Regardless of how little a manager might matter there's no reason to retain the inefficiency.
  8. Why not Martin? If the lead-off slot adds the .040 of OBP everyone thinks it does then Russell will get on at a .370 clip or something.
  9. I don't understand the second image. That's not a picture of the Kansas City Royals, is it?
  10. If it weren't for the casuals I'd never have gotten to feel the dome literally shake during a Saturday afternoon game vs. the Rays. Worse, I'd never get to hear 50,000 people shake up Johnny Cueto. I also can't really blame casuals when I'm pumping my fists at a Raptors win despite not knowing any players on the team they just beat, or on any other team.
  11. Got four tickets for this one myself. Also nabbed three for May 8 vs. the Dodgers.
  12. A shame. There was a good collection of smart guys writing too.
  13. Do we do pre-Spring Training recaps? If there's interest from you guys I wouldn't mind putting together a listicle of the new names we'll be hearing on the team this year, along with a brief breakdown of their (potential) respective roles. Anybody willing can also add some advanced analysis to each player's blurb.
  14. That last line for the LAA write-up even made me wince a little, and I don't give a s*** about the Angels at all.
  15. I have like eight of them. One of my aunts is a superfan and she goes to every Sunday home game and always has extra swag that she gives me. I didn't get any from last year, though. The tops of my bookshelves are a museum to Blue Jay busts: BJ Ryan, Lyle Overbay, Brandon Morrow, Ricky Romero, Yunel Escobar, Brett Lawrie, JP Arencibia, and a Jose Reyes figurine. I also have Bautista, bless his soul.
  16. The lady expects me to get Donaldson bobble head tickets vs. the Athletics and I intend to try not to disappoint her.
  17. I am also pulling for the Broncos. I was going to go to a friend's to watch this tonight but I think I'm probably just going to stay in and watch it in my pajamas.
  18. Here: *mic drop
  19. Once I was in a lecture and the chick in front of me was camming with some naked dude. I'm pretty sure he spotted me in her frame because she suddenly turned around, looked at me, turned back, and then closed all her windows.
  20. A .350 OBP in the minors doesn't excite me that much. The patience might translate to the bigs, but the ability to make good contact might not and then the OBP is closer to .310-.320. A really good hitter should leave .350 in the dust in the minors. Then again the same dropoff could happen to a .380+ guy. But at least this guy is making a better case for himself.
  21. I think seeing a batting order written out is a bit of an illusion. A beefy 2-6 looks a lot more "balanced" than a beefy 1-5, which just looks top-heavy and bottom-weak by comparison. Problem is that the lineups are weak in exactly the same ways, except the Pompey-leading-off version gives Pompey more PAs than Josh Donaldson. It's like people forget the lineup loops overs and you get the same effect of Pompey hitting in front of sluggers if he hits ninth. This is my armchair psychology for the day.
  22. A third of my posts on this forum are me bitching about this exact thing.
  23. I wish comfort could be a factor in enhancing talent. I'd be pretty comfortable making just league minimum to play baseball for a few hours a day. Prettay, prettay, prettaaaaay comfortable. Then comes the .430 OBP. Then the sections of female fans.
  24. This is a huge difference. Yes, I want the guy who gets on base 30 more times in the season so he can be a bigger part of another 35+ HR campaign from Donaldson or Bautista or Edwin. You're asking if we want a guy who makes 30 more outs in a year getting the most PAs because you want him to gamble with the outs he avoided in front of three of the game's best power hitters. And only for the benefit of a single base. If you're late in the game and you absolutely, positively need that extra base, just pinch run for the guy who had a higher chance of making it on base in the first place.
  25. But even if Pillar achieves a ~.340 OBP or something, that's still probably going to be lower than any of the big four. I mean I'd love Pillar even more than I do if he could climb to that level but I'm not going throw him a bone over other, more productive players just because he's exceeded his own abilities. The only reason this is a discussion is because of the urge to build a traditional-looking lineup. If, for just one year, all MLB teams built hyper-efficient lineups this mentality of slotting The Quick Guy into No. 1 would vanish. It's all perception. Just score the most runs and stack as many of the unlikeliest outs together using whatever metric works.
