  1. I think it's been stated that the current unallocated budget is ~$31M. I'm pretty sure this takes into account some of the raises that some guys are due, too. $31M is definitely a nice start. Some creative roster shuffling should create some more cash too. It is nice that the team being competitive is a straighter line than most teams. Literally: get pitching. Not to say that getting some good guys will necessarily be easy, but I'd say it's rarely this simple.
  2. I doubt the GM search is over. It's been less than a week since AA left and only Shapiro's first official day. LaCava has the job atm because it can't just sit idle. The phones are probably already ringing; somebody with knowledge of the team has to be answering those calls. Once other candidates have been vetted, LaCava probably goes back to his job and someone else will get the gig.
  3. Information is all there, but kinda unrelated: Heyman writes like a high school student. So disjointed and stilted. Seemingly no editor looked at this either. I'm pretty sure I bitched about him before too. Anyway, back to the regularly scheduled loling: Dusty Baker to replace Matt Williams as Nationals manager.
  4. I went to bed when it was 2-0 Mets. I woke up and checked my phone and am not surprised to see they blew it. What the hell happened? Ah well. Royals earned it. Good on 'em.
  5. I can't see why the prospect of acquiring Troy Tulowitzki would in any way be affected by Travis getting hurt. I mean, if you're already willing to move Reyes and prospects for Tulo to begin with, why did it take an injury to a rookie 2B to finalize the decision? But IIRC, Travis didn't suffer his ultimately season-ending injury until after the trade was made. He just coincidentally happened to hurt himself in the game that Tulo didn't arrive in Toronto for (Hawkins was there). Technically, Travis and Tulo were already teammates when Travis kinked his shoulder on that swing.
  6. I don't dislike Hosmer enough to want to see him Bucknor one.
  7. In a hat the guy looks kind of twerpish. Take it off, let the hair flow, and he's basically Val Kilmer. Holy.
  8. I did a test too. I tested my browser input to make sure I was actually at Blue Jays Message Board and not the CBC comments section, so maybe Grant can bleat his garbage there instead.
  9. Can you just stop with this demoted and fired ********? There is nothing to suggest either of those things happened and you braying it out over and over doesn't make it true.
  10. One good trade does not counterbalance a handful of bad ones. Regardless how good the good one is, it shows a lack of good judgment on a day-to-day perspective. Broken clock and such.
  11. People are pissed because after finally watching a playoff worthy team, the guy who built it is leaving. If I can borrow a Krylianism, it's like if the 10 got off you mid-ride. Realistically it's just a buzzkill. I don't think this spells any kind of disaster whatsoever. If anything, you should all be blaming AA for walking off given the information we have. Not accepting a contract =/= getting fired.
  12. Why the rush to get rid of Gibby?
  13. AA deserves cred where it's due. I don't hate the guy, and no one here is panicking because of his draft history. I'm just pointing out that his ability to build a major league squad isn't some alchemy that no one else can reproduce.
  14. Also, before any more information comes out, let's all remember Anthopolous turned the contract offer down. Rogers can't be expected to just make it rain money on the guy, or promise him things the new president they just hired won't give him. Both sides likely knew this was coming.
  15. Even I was stunned at his ability to swing the Donaldson and Tulo trades within the same season, but what other incredible moves has he made? You also have the consecutive Marlins and Dickey trades, both of which people are realizing were/are awful. He did a good job restocking the farm and bringing in talent for budget prices, but how is that not something anyone can do? I mean, kudos to AA for his 2015 squad, but I think some of you might be letting the 22 Years narrative create a halo around the guy.
  16. Gibby will be out if 2016 is a disappointment. I'm actually a little bit shocked that AA is out, but his own free agent performance this summer has probably earned him a lot of cred. I wonder where he goes now. I was kind of excited to see what else he could do with the existing squad going into 2016.
  17. How can you be a mod and hold this opinion? We need some better judges of character calling the shots around here ffs.
  18. Finishing each other's sentences? But fine, I'll give you those two.
  19. But if no one can collaborate and it's not due to any one particularly bad seed then it's the team chemistry that's holding everyone back. Silly and stupid, but it happens. Jobs that require that much communication and idea sharing thrive on chemistry. Note that I don't think this about baseball. There's nothing creative about baseball. Just do your job and go home. It's like performing trade work.
  20. This sounds more like a guy who is just inadvertently sabotaging s***. Chemistry is pretty important in a creative collaboration environment though. Baseball is not that, but anything that involves writing (and other similar things) can live or die on soft s*** like feelings and relationships.
  21. Dunno man. Some things should just stay off limits.
  22. Probably a hysterical question, but here goes: If Fox can both hold up the game and be the only source of usable video replay footage, what does that make MLB? You don't think this arrangement gives Fox some influence in how the games play out, whether or directly or just through MLB pro-actively appeasing them?
  23. Kind of like a Jays fan felt seeing umpires employed by Major League Baseball and equipped with video replay award a home run to the opposing team despite fan interference?
  24. Is there one thing that Fox has brought/done to the world that we couldn't live without? Probably classic Simpsons. Fox is so f***ing useless they can't even be completely useless.
