    Really hope it's Hutch. Pompey and Sanchez still have time to season, but Hutch needs to become a staple of the rotation sooner rather than later. No more competing with castoffs and developing rooks to land SP5.

    Franklin Morales doesn't have a job yet FWIW. Not sure if he'd be worth whatever money is left. He might take a discount if he wants to avoid missing time, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he's been turning down minor league offers in the hopes of landing something decent. This depends on if Loup is actually injured or if it's just ST rust.

    Edwin's been steadily excellent for the last four years, though. If you look at the numbers for 2012-2015 you'd be forgiven for not realizing which stats belong to which year. He's very consistent. Not sure how much more he could improve even with "more effort".

    Have to disagree. Unless Bautista is guaranteed to put up 2015-calibre numbers at age 40 I'd prefer the 33-year-old Reddick by that point.

    Unless the team promises to relegate Saunders to a bench role I'm not sure I can see them being able to convince Jackson to sign here. From his perspective, he wants to increase his value for the contract after this one so taking a PT role defeats that purpose. I imagine he probably said something similar to the Angels, though the one-year contract they offered probably wasn't all that attractive either. OTOH, it'd be a guaranteed $15M for him (if we go by your offer). Not bad considering his abilities haven't been at their peak lately.

    I wouldn't even really want Jackson leading off. Someone who can be 120 runs in front of JD and JB and not 95.

    This is probably it. The consolation is that, yeah, temporary. Still, this is some really questionable decision making. It's immediately a bad idea and it'll show as soon as #1-hitting Pillar becomes Craig Kimbrel's last victim in a 1-run game.

    I read some noise the other day about Francona toying with using Carlos Santana as his #1. Not sure if it was a playful quip or not though.
